If so, we’ll give you a sneak peak inside and discuss how the characters differ from the ones you see on screen. It might surprise you to know that some of your favorite characters should look totally different. Aria Montgomery is known in the books for being tall, while the actress who plays her is only 5’2! Hanna Rivers is supposed to be a brunette, and Emily Fields should be strawberry blonde. While your feelings about Mona Vanderwaal might be complicated, in the book it’s clear that this character is pale with light eyes and nearly white blonde hair. Let’s see if you look at your favorite character the same way after watching this video and discovering what they should truly look like!

If a book has a completely same-looking cast then I hate to say it, but it's actually an improvement to add diversity, far from a downgrade.
i agree they should've added diverse actors/actresses but Emily is the ONLY character whos race mattered (in the books at least)

To be fair, it’s a book. You can make up characters as your heart desires, give them whatever features you want. But when it comes to real life I don’t expect them to change them all with features that can take a while to go away (new hair color, new hair cut, etc).
The book characters has no diversity. Everyone was pale and mostly had blue eyes and sometimes blonde hair

I don't really care. As a person of color I just want people to stop white washing and dark washing any and all chatacters. They were made a certain way- and that's that. Instead of taking away a characters physical identity how about we just make original characters that are diverse elsewhere? Two wrongs don't make a right. There is no "oh well they whitewash so we have the right to do the same" because that just doesnt solve any hostility at all. Its just bad all around. We don't need white characters to be colored instead- we need originally colored characters... People who read the books get it. But its still understandable as I doubt many would watch it if it were just a bunch of white girls in this day and age.

Yes, in the TV show Hannah and Caleb got married... On one of the last few episodes in 7 seasons. And in the books, Hanna and Mike got married... In the last of a 16 book series. It was at the very end. So technically, you could call her Hanna Rivers or Hanna Montgomery depending of if it's the TV show or books you're talking about... But since this is on both and the majority of the series generally before she got married, it just makes logical sense to call her Hanna Marin since that is her name for 99% of the time in both the TV show and the books.

I also read the books long before the tv show and I was so disappointed in the polite not being like the books that I never watched the show again but I'm thinking of giving it another try

If you are really thinking of giving it another chance, do it. It gets kind of complicated around season 3 or so, but it’s not a bad show. I’ve watched it all the way through twice (and thinking of watching it again a third time) and that’s crazy for me because I’m picky with the things that I watch.

You guys missed a HUGE detail, especially since you brought up how Jennas names chanced. In the books you said Hannahs name was Hannah Rivers, but in the show its Hannah Martin and her boyfriend Caleb is Caleb Rivers I know they get married at the end, but they aren't for most of the show/books.......Also, I don't know guys this video seemed really messed up. I don't easily get offended, but talking about the girls weights and saying some of them weren't skinny enough and then the part about Tamin Sursok literally not being pretty enough to play Jenna was so messed up. It’s not about whether or not she has full lips, it’s about the fact that disheartening entertainment channels like these feel the need to comment on something as inconsequential as appearance. The media absolutely bombards us with “lower” values-as in values that keep us from growing, keep us from being aware of ourselves, and prevent us from focusing on the things that truly matter (like growth). Not to mention the fact that if Lucy Hale saw this, it might hurt her feelings. Question herself. Reduce her ability to self-love. We should be perpetuating love and understanding, not negativity.

You may think we have more freedom to embody our authentic identities but no one would call a woman a slut, for example, if that terminology wasn’t used heavily in teen movies and beyond. It’s only recently that we’ve become averse to that word on the mass scale. The media should be guiding us into the future, not keeping us stuck in the ill-advised “morality” of the past.

This video makes me angry. They picked the PERFECT people for this show. I'm not sure why they make these types of videos. I mean, they probably auditioned the types of people that were in the books... but as a casting director... it's hard to find that person 100% and you have to find what was the best fit. Puppy lover A I have read the whole series, and I agree with the other person. All of the characters in the book had similar features. Don't even try to mention laziness either because it seems you're too lazy to even wholly spell out "because" or use correct grammar. It's their opinion, so respect it and move on.
I don't think the appearance needs to be exactly the same. I'm happy as long as the essence of the characters are retained.
My favourite character is spencer and I don’t think any other actress could have pulled off as good of a spencer as troian bellisario ❤️

I like the diverse cast, the models used on the book cover all look generic and too model like. They show cast are gorgeous and look more realistic being different heights, skin tones
