Night, Dawn, Day, and Land of the Dead are all Zombie classics. All are underrated. All have social commentary that still speaks to us today as well as being legendary horror genre classics that paved the way for other zombie films.
I’ve watched all of them. Land of The Dead is absolutely underrated. Deserves far more love than it gets. Day of the Dead is my absolutely favourite because it was my first every zombie movie that I ever watched. On good ole VHS back in the 90s. I had some hope for the Day of the Dead remake in 2017 but my god that was an awful film
@Steven Stevenson Now, tbf the remakes after the Dawn of the Dead remake took the universe that was in and tried to go with the slower model. Taken as that way, it wasn't too bad of an attempt overall....
Land of the Dead is great, Cholo is one of my fav Romero badasses along with Steel and Rickles in Day of the Dead. He's also a bit of a dumbass...blackmailing Kauffman for $2 million in worthless cash lol
Land was pretty good. Saw it in theaters when it was new. As for best Romero zombie film, I don't agree with Day being the best. Day is good but I would say Dawn is better because you can picture yourself having great time like the characters in taking over the mall.
I've seen all of these movies more times than I can count, and though it took me a really, really, really long time Day of the Dead is the magnum opus, in my opinion. Everything about that movie is actually perfect, the claustrophobia, the gore effects, the hopelessness, the acting, the character work. It is all really, really good. And yes, Sarah is strong from the start, but throughout the movie she has moments of regret or weakness that really give her more life than is initially apparent. But what really makes Day of the Dead, not only the best in the series but one of the greatest horror movies of all time, is the score. The intense melancholy in the Day of the Dead score is absolutely phenomenal, blending aspects of dystopian horror with child-like wonder in a way that no other OST ever has. Much like Bub, the flesh-eating, child-like monster, the Day of the Dead score is both terrifying and comforting, in a way that makes it even more unsettling. If you've never just listened to the soundtrack, without the movie, give it a listen on youtube, preferably the vinyl, and just drift away to a place unlike any other you have ever visited.
The writing accents the music and vice versa. Especially the latter. If the music was great but the writing terrible, I don't think it would've mattered as much. Though it's hard to find a top tier written film with a dogshit score lol.
I love Romero, and I love every film he made. So that means I love the first four Dead films along with his last two. Diary may seem hokey, but it was predicting lots of things before they happened. Genius George. Surivial feels like George wanting to make a classic inspired film, and that's what he did.
Although “Night of Anubis” was considered… the original title was “Night of the Flesh Eaters”. They had to change it because another film titled “The Flesh Eaters” had recently come out.
What I really love about the Romero version was that they never explained How it got started in the first place. The first one we ever see looks like it was being prepared for Embalming, so we don't know if he even got bitten first, it's fantastic....
The embalming scene is in Return of the Living Dead, I think. Night of the Living Dead states that the dead started to come back to life after a satellite came back to earth, possibly with some kind of virus on it.
George Romero was one of Fred Rogers' first directors of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and the proto "PBS" station where the show was done was used as the news station in _Night of the Living Dead_ . George loved to tell a story as being a film fanatic kid growing up in New York City, he had access to 16mm versions of classic films, and you could rent projectors as well--long before even VHS, that's how you had to do it then. Anyway, George wanted to rent _Tales of Hoffman_ one day, but the rental clerk said it was out--rented by some Italian kid, named Scorsese...
I watched Dawn of the dead, when I was a kid, I still occasionally have dreams about zombies in a shopping mall. I would have liked to see Romero adapt the World War Z book. It seems like an organic explanation of the beginning, middle, and end of the story he started.
My 1st intoduction was Dawn of the Dead @ a Midnight Mall Theatre Show in 1980 w/ audience participation which made me a Romero Fan for Life. Got to meet him & he signed my Original Trilogy. Also never come to a Hollywood Press LOD screening as a Mechanic Zombie, they won't let you in. Diary Grew on me & was Lucky to find one of few theaters where Survial screened here in La. Please do the Phantasm franchise if not done yet. Very underrated! Agree with you, first 3 Romero Of The Dead are spotless..the latter 3 not bad, still enjoyable but nowhere near the 3 before classics..
The Sarge in Survival of the Dead, who robbed the group in Diary, is also in Land of The Dead as one of the security guards, he gets ate. I always thought it was a funny little storyline for that one character.
I'll admit I'm not too big on zombie flicks. But the first four Romero zombie films are some of the best! The only other ones that get anywhere close are the first three Return of the Living Dead films.
I always thought that a zombie bite would kill you, not specifically turn you into a zombie. The fact you'd died with your head still intact meant you then became a zombie.
Correct. Romero zombies result any time someone dies for any reason with their head and brain intact. Zombie bites are lethal but the bite isn't what results in zombification. Death results in zombification.
Personally the social commentary is a thing i never think about when watching any of George A. Romero’s zombie movies. For me it’s the story, characters, zombies and gore and thank god the social commentary side of the movies isn’t shoved down our throats like today’s movies which is more like social must do’s by the way they are preached and lectured
I got a kick out of Survival, Zombie fishing, the reaction of the zombie when he realizes he's about to be blown to bits, and especially Nicotine, when he encounters a zombie and is annoyed. He doesn't lose his shit, he's annoyed. He sets it on fire and uses it to light his cig. But, then, I usually dig what people hate, like the fridge bit in Indiana Jones.

No mention of The Walking Dead, which is a glorious homage to the Romero zombie genre with at least several Kick-Ass seasons and at least one very badass bad guy.
Something has always bothered me about that very first zombie in Night of the Living Dead. He attacks Johnny, but doesn’t try to bite him. After Johnny dies, he isn’t compelled to start devouring Johnny. As a matter of fact, he immediately chases after Barbara. And he was cognizant enough to try to smash her car window with a rock. He does show up with a horde later at the farmhouse, but…. Is there any possibility that the first zombie in Night wasn’t a zombie but just some crazed, homicidal lunatic??
I hope we see Twilight of the Dead the last film it's remored to have Big Daddy in it don't know about Bub but I want them to bring back Ken Foree and Gaylin.. Peter and Francine and flyboy's adult son should be in this film.
I have to tell you this That you should know that diary and the dad goes back to his beginnings on the first week of how the dead was just beginning to come out of the Browns and all that so it will give us bit more of a backstory of them if you only put night of living dead before diary of the dead, and also with the other ones that will be with Don the dead and Day of the dead and the best way to put the remake of night of the living dead 1990 I was only 10 that one came out and the only way to understand the Tom line is to do it like this Rising of the dead Night of the living dead Diary of the dead Dawn of the dead Riots of the dead Day of the dead Survival of the dead Night of living, dead, 1990 Roads of the dead Land of the dead Twilight of the dead This is the list that I know how it goes according to me but if you wanna refute that or if you want to examine my timeline, then go ahead when I have to tell you diary of the dead is actually during the breakout or just say the initial outbreak when it was just beginning to happen yeah, I know it looks like it is The new day and time I am saying that it kind of looks like that but it’s really not just goes back to the first few weeks of the initial invasion so a part of it so it would have to take place before Dawn of the dead explain it well, then feel free to use the comment if you like or you can use my comment and my timeline as far as we know it to be, the other movies still stands there’s some that don’t exist yet, but they will be. There will be a pretty cool because the son of George Romero announced that he’s going to be doing a prequel, but I am going to write it, and I’m gonna make sure that he gets the hell that he deserves, so what do you think about that if you like the idea of this for a video, feel free to talk about it and also include my timeline as far as I know where of the dead stands where it’s supposed to be with night of the dead and diary of dead, and Dawn dead the other Dad will be taking place a little later in time so there will be another movie in between them. They’ll lead to the events of riots of the debt so that would be the one to do for Tom Savini. So feel free to use my Comet and my tall wine because I did talk with the idea that he would come out of retire and he said that he wouldn’t mind coming back to do in our movie as long as I get the chance to shine with both Savini and Merrell Junior so it’s like I said you can use my comment if you like and you can definitely can use my reference for the timeline purposes for the video. If you want to do that that’s fine because survival dead is not a direct sequel. I would have to say a dark sequel to survival of the day was have to be twilight of the dead Susanna Romero told me that she is going to help complete her husband‘s work that she is glad to know me as a fan of her husband and the movies he made least you give him credit for making a timeline for us to go off of so feel free to use my comment and towline for the purposes for the video for a video idea that you can do watching and listening so feel free to make that video and I hope that you can do it by request and also buy me go to the list of how I saw the timeline because I believe that twilight of the dead is going to take place after 1999 of the living dead because it did a reference when Tom Hollis said this Dammit, we heard this shit from before He was referencing to the original movie when he said that, so technically, this one is more as a sequel more than alien else than a remake so I think that this one will be take place either in between survival all the dead, and to get place in 19 889 for that one then 1994 Tom Savini remake known as Night of the living Dad 1990 for twilight of the dead I’m thinking that will be taking place in the year of 1995 not as the ending of the war I am thinking that this wanted to take a place before land of the dead and road of the dead Would have to go either before or after it, but I will say after land of the dead because of the elsewhere then the funnel battle would have to start somewhere that one leads to wars of the dead. I’m just guessing and giving more into this, but exactly what I said feel free to use what I have to say here in your comment section and also use it for your video And request by saying so and maybe you can use it for a video and the timeline I have given you for free to do so
Would be easier if you just do the timeline that can be a video that you can do go with my list for the timeline but don’t worry people will still love you Because we heard this before it’s not the release year was the release dates that we need to hear from what we do need to hear from is what do you think about the timeline I have given you
Diary of the Dead was horrible. Survival of the Dead was so so. It was shot beautifully but the story meh. Night of the Living Dead 1990 remake was excellent. The issue with some of the entries is way too much social commentary. Thats why the Original Night of the Living Dead was so captivating. There was just people trying to survive zombies, nothing more
Night of the living dead 1968 horror classic dawn of the dead 1978 great sequel day of the dead good sequel the dawn of the dead remake from 2004 horrible remake night of the living dead 1990 good remake🎉

I still see myself as a wingman more than leader of a group. Like Daryl or even Abraham. My friends and i always talked what we would and go to survive.
You are spouting misinformation. 1) Yes the original title was Night of Anubis, then it was changed to Night of the Flesh Eaters but there as a film with The Flesh Eaters title so they changed it again to Night of the Living Dead. 2) The public domain thing was NOT the mistake of Romero and company. It was the mistake of the Walter Reed Organization who was the original distributor of the film. They forgot to put the copyright on the film when the title was changed from Night of the Flesh Eaters to Night of the Living Dead. 3) It is true that Romero and Russo couldn't agree what to do with the series after Night. But Russo got the rights to The Living Dead moniker and Romero had to use Of the Dead moniker. 4) Night wasn't successful at first. It was Europe who made it popular when it reached over there and then it got a 2nd look in North America which was the very early 1970's. Can you do a little better research next time?
Look you did good on the history and research but dude, your pronouncing his name way wrong, it's Romero, your saying rameero, I'll spell the pronouciation, Ro-Marrow
"Critics", my kingdom for a "critic" who remembers that the words "In my opinion" exist for a reason. Mostly to respect the fact that other's opinions are just as valid. It means a lot when you're telling folks "to skip this or that" and that "Films aren't worthy of even mentioning or giving a spotlight to", and other such arrogant and self absorbed lines. I enjoy several of those "not worth a spotlight mention" a great deal. So there. Here's to never being so jaded and critical I forget how to just love watching more than a handful of films or thinking myself a "critic"..lmao Land and Diary are decent fun, 2008 Day of The Dead is hilarious silly fun, Bloodline is silly fun too. AND I prefer Savini's NightOTLD and Snyder's Dawn Of The Dead remakes BETTER than the originals, I just have more fun with them. oooo how's that for an opinion..LMAO
Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake has the best aesthetic in any zombie movie, my second favorite, first 28 Days Later but without Romero we wouldn't have any of them, the og Trilogy hasn't been surpassed on a script quality level but i hope we have good original zombie movies inspired by Romero's original work and not some stupid Resident Evil or The Walking Dead spinoff
In the original it's the Father, they have a whole conversation about Mother not wanting to visit as it's too far for her to go. In the 1990 remake it's the Mother.
Zombie was uttered only twice in the series. First in Dawn and later in Land, yet the narrator here uses it with regularity. Irritating and for certain not a slice of fried gold.

No mention of The Walking Dead, which is a glorious homage to the Romero zombie genre with at least several Kick-Ass seasons and at least one very badass bad guy.
Yeah it’s a shame that his latter works were so underwhelming.
Probably.
RIP George A Romero 😔🍁
Diary & Dawn are my favorites
IMAGINE IF Old G R Would of got to do a RESIDENT EVIL FILM !""
Please review all of the Return of the Living Dead movies.
I hope we see Twilight of the Dead the last film it's remored to have Big Daddy in it don't know about Bub but I want them to bring back Ken Foree and Gaylin.. Peter and Francine and flyboy's adult son should be in this film.
I have to tell you this That you should know that diary and the dad goes back to his beginnings on the first week of how the dead was just beginning to come out of the Browns and all that so it will give us bit more of a backstory of them if you only put night of living dead before diary of the dead, and also with the other ones that will be with Don the dead and Day of the dead and the best way to put the remake of night of the living dead 1990 I was only 10 that one came out and the only way to understand the Tom line is to do it like this
Rising of the dead
Night of the living dead
Diary of the dead
Dawn of the dead
Riots of the dead
Day of the dead
Survival of the dead
Night of living, dead, 1990
Roads of the dead
Land of the dead
Twilight of the dead
This is the list that I know how it goes according to me but if you wanna refute that or if you want to examine my timeline, then go ahead when I have to tell you diary of the dead is actually during the breakout or just say the initial outbreak when it was just beginning to happen yeah, I know it looks like it is The new day and time I am saying that it kind of looks like that but it’s really not just goes back to the first few weeks of the initial invasion so a part of it so it would have to take place before Dawn of the dead explain it well, then feel free to use the comment if you like or you can use my comment and my timeline as far as we know it to be, the other movies still stands there’s some that don’t exist yet, but they will be. I would have to say a dark sequel to survival of the day was have to be twilight of the dead Susanna Romero told me that she is going to help complete her husband‘s work that she is glad to know me as a fan of her husband and the movies he made least you give him credit for making a timeline for us to go off of so feel free to use my comment and towline for the purposes for the video for a video idea that you can do watching and listening so feel free to make that video and I hope that you can do it by request and also buy me go to the list of how I saw the timeline because I believe that twilight of the dead is going to take place after 1999 of the living dead because it did a reference when Tom Hollis said this
Dammit, we heard this shit from before
He was referencing to the original movie when he said that, so technically, this one is more as a sequel more than alien else than a remake so I think that this one will be take place either in between survival all the dead, and to get place in 19 889 for that one then 1994 Tom Savini remake known as Night of the living Dad 1990 for twilight of the dead I’m thinking that will be taking place in the year of 1995 not as the ending of the war I am thinking that this wanted to take a place before land of the dead and road of the dead Would have to go either before or after it, but I will say after land of the dead because of the elsewhere then the funnel battle would have to start somewhere that one leads to wars of the dead. I’m just guessing and giving more into this, but exactly what I said feel free to use what I have to say here in your comment section and also use it for your video And request by saying so and maybe you can use it for a video and the timeline I have given you for free to do so
Would be easier if you just do the timeline that can be a video that you can do go with my list for the timeline but don’t worry people will still love you Because we heard this before it’s not the release year was the release dates that we need to hear from what we do need to hear from is what do you think about the timeline I have given you
I say let the fanchise rest with George
Diary of the Dead was horrible. Survival of the Dead was so so. It was shot beautifully but the story meh.
Night of the Living Dead 1990 remake was excellent. The issue with some of the entries is way too much social commentary. Thats why the Original Night of the Living Dead was so captivating. There was just people trying to survive zombies, nothing more
Night of the living dead 1968 horror classic dawn of the dead 1978 great sequel day of the dead good sequel the dawn of the dead remake from 2004 horrible remake night of the living dead 1990 good remake🎉
well I blame the big studios for wrecking him when he was indie he was at his best lets be honest and the studios wrecked what he made save for tom he actually put in the effort
Would anyone start. Lead a group/community like in TWD? What kind of character would you see yourself as? I took a quiz and i ended being Rick Grimes. I still see myself as a wingman more than leader of a group. Like Daryl or even Abraham. My friends and i always talked what we would and go to survive.
Diary of the dead seems idiotic. Takes place in beginning of apocalypse but feels NOTHING like NOTLD AND DOTD.
Return of lthe living dead. Ftw
Unfortunately, this series needed to die with Romero. No more sequels from whomever owns the rights to his properties, or anything like that.
Funny how he called "zombies" ghouls. Ghouls are entities that feast on the dead. not the living. not sure why he wanted to call the undead "ghouls"
Day....Night....Dawn.
Land of the Dead unrated
The ONLY ONE, worthwhile watching, is the first one. The rest are a disappointment. Period😔.
It’s pronounced Ro Mehr Oh
Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake has the best aesthetic in any zombie movie, my second favorite, first 28 Days Later but without Romero we wouldn't have any of them, the og Trilogy hasn't been surpassed on a script quality level but i hope we have good original zombie movies inspired by Romero's original work and not some stupid Resident Evil or The Walking Dead spinoff
But _The Walking Dead_ IS inspired by NOTLD. It basically takes place in the Romeroverse!
Hate to be that guy, but Johnny and Barbara are visiting their mother's grave, not their father's! I love these movies!
In the original it's the Father, they have a whole conversation about Mother not wanting to visit as it's too far for her to go. In the 1990 remake it's the Mother.
@@susanalderson8267 thanks for clearing that up for me, Susan. Got my wires crossed!
👍👍
expeerements...lol
id watch twilight
Resident evil
Diary of the Dead sucks
Zombie was uttered only twice in the series. First in Dawn and later in Land, yet the narrator here uses it with regularity. Irritating and for certain not a slice of fried gold.
Did you just advocate hitting women?
It's available for viewing here on TH-cam in several places; this link is a pretty good looking copy. Weird how this happened, but it's our gain.
