I did not know that and I've been a fan of Arch Enemy for a long time.
Alyssa brings a really cool iconic image to their new music and is doing a fantastic job because she is a great vocalist... But holy shit Angela was a legendary beast

I'm sorry to offend anyone with this, but I'd take this old Arch Enemy over the one with Alyssa anyday. Angela's growls are just far superior to Alyssa's (but that's my opinion :P)
If you don't know : first, her name is Alissa not Alyssa, then if you know even a little about Alissa, she got inspired of Angela's growls to do her own growls... So, of course Angela is more experienced than Alissa but War Eternal is a fucking good album anyway!!

There's different styles/sub genres of death metal.
Arch Enemy has always been melodic death metal.
Mot just straight out death metal like Cannibal Corpse, Obituary or Death.
Carcass shares somewhat of the same style (but Carcass is a lot better).
Different sub genres, man. It's not just categorized by one huge lump. There's tiny pieces that fit into the areas.

I don't really listen to this band anymore after Angela left the singer's place. This woman has the voice of a chameleon, accompanying every bit of single sound from extreme demonic power to the whisper of a witch. I tried to find it in the new singer but , there is always something missing, something unfinished…a straight line in her voice!

I'm not saying Arch Enemy is bad, I'm saying Arch Enemy never was the most brutal metal band. That's a fact, it's not a matter of opinion, there were plenty of Death, Black or Thrash metal bands that were more brutal than Arch Enemy, even 10 years earlier. I love Arch Enemy, but it's not the most brutal thing, it's even far from being "brutal" IMO

This song ought to be the theme song of the next X Men Movie. Age of Apokalypse. Lyrics could fit and even some parts of the instrumental music alone sounds like some kind of heavier (and more violent) tune similar to the repeated riffs in X Men movies. Imagine the movie starting with this. wooww.

Hello. I am a former hip-hop head (well, I still enjoy the genre pre-2005 or so, but nothing recent...) I have recently gotten into metal. Arch Enemy was my "gateway drug" so to speak when it comes to metal. I knew about (and enjoyed) mainstream bands such as System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine prior to discovering Arch Enemy, and I was never much into the sector of the genre that just tried to be as dark, screaming, and screechy as some of the 'metal' genre is (no offense to those who are - I appreciate the art, I just don't prefer it...as someone who has liked hip-hop, I understand how it is when people say that "it's just noise, not music.")
I guess I am just coming forth as a newb to the genre. What other bands, in a similar vain to Arch Enemy, should I look into?
I reccomend Lamb of God if you like Arch Enemy. They're pretty simillar IMO.
