After watching your great tutorial, I feel alot more confident now that I know the step by step processes. I heard with the spuds your don't need to super tighten, is that correct?
I hated to give this video a “dislike” but there were enough errors in it that I couldn’t give full approval. With that being said, the video does a good job showing the parts and the disassembly and especially the reassembly with new parts. Here is a list of the obvious errors I easily noticed in the video: 1) He kept calling the brass spud and it’s black spud gasket assembly a “spud VALVE” in the beginning of the video. It’s not a valve. A valve starts or stops or regulates the flow of liquids and gasses, etc. It’s just called a spud…and a spud gasket. 2) He says it leaked because it rusted. The spud is brass and doesn’t rust and the spud gasket is rubber and doesn’t rust. The reason it leaked is one of two reasons…the rubber spud gasket just got old and dried up OR the piping was disturbed in some way like being bumped or someone put their foot on it OR sometimes people hit/push the flush lever overly hard. 3) In the video he says the spud assembly has THREE PIECES. It doesn’t. It has FOUR pieces: the brass spud, the rubber spud gasket, a friction ring often made of stainless steel, and the brass nut. That is 4 pieces. Sorry folks. I need accuracy in my videos.

I took out two spud from a commercial toilets that where so old, had to the rubber before pulling them out. Great video🙂

What tool is that that you use to hold that spud from spinning? Not the spline tool/wrench, the swedge tool looking thing?
I am sorry it’s been a bit and I do remember having to apply pressure and fussing with it. I wish I had a better answer.

You can get a spud coupling kit and it comes with a new friction washer and new rubber seal. Those tend to get hard and leak.

Yes. Verify it is off before removing anything by attempting to flush handle; if it flushes water is on if not it is off.

The friction ring isn't stainless.....
You may be good plumbers but bad teacher I was trying to see how to install piece by piece but didn’t get it and I saw it 3 times
