For me, what he is severely lacking in terms of the Premier League is confidence to carry a ball. He seems a bit nervous to take a ball forward at times when he can clearly do it with his ability.
True, seen much of nwaneri in preseason than I had seen Fabio played for arsenal
Sometimes feels like he's overthinking it and overcoached. He needs to relax and play his game. The ability is there. we've seen moments with wonderful passes and good technique hitting the ball. Just needs to get it right mentally
He does look very timid
Spot on
so true. he lacks confidence in his own abilities it seems. his diminitive nature should help him being elude players easily. Messi, Silva, etc
I think his mentality next season has to be stronger. He must back himself to succeed. He has the talent! Can strengthen a bit more too.
If there is anyone who can tell Viera , to hit the gym and work on his strength , I love watching him play but hit strength lacks
When we signed him, I genuinely felt we were onto a Bruno / Bernardo Silva - hybrid! Though I've only been disappointed and frustrated every time he's played... bar that goal vs Brentford. Player low in confidence I feel
He is just needs more playing time, indeed a highbrid of Bruno and Silva, check out the technics of his passes both long and short, and dribbles like Silva
Vieira is a good player... He just needs game time...give him to Dortmund and we will be buying him for 100m.
I don't think his performance last season was anything more than him missing pre-season and the beginning of the campaign due to injury. Players need time in the team, regardless of skillset. I have seen flashes of his quality, and I think his ability is staggering. I don't think Arteta was expecting him to be a starter last season, either. Fans often see a player get a cameo appearance and then freak out when they don't perform, not realizing that every player needs a bit of time to find a rhythm.
Porto fan, he was good for us but you got him after 6 months of playing at a good level being a starter for us! Honestly, I think the problem is you got him too soon for him to make an immediate impact, just loan him to a club that starts him! Per example, you loan him back to us and he'd still be a starter for us and that's not because there's any difference between our teams, it's because you have Odegaard and we don't
He does need a loan if we aren't going to try to sell him, he will not get much gametime with ødegaard, havertz and maybe even a fit smith-rowe in the team.
cheeky cheeky
Not because there's a diff between the teams😂😂😂😂😂😂 are you having a laugh, arsenals 1st team last year was top 5 in Europe
We paid too much for him after only playing 6 months at a good level. He was a £20m player at the most. No wonder no-one else was in for Fábio Vieira and we got a free run.
@@SmartCookie2022 he's got talent I wouldn't write him off just yet but it's not looking good
It's a bit harsh on Viera, grealish was a 100m player that took 2 yrs to learn the tactics.
If you're trying to do a like-for-like, Grealish was levels above Fábio Vieira at Aston Villa, whereas Vieira only had 6 reasonably good months with Porto. Face it, Vieira won't make the cut at Arsenal and will be sold at a huge loss.
@@SmartCookie2022 he is talking about adapting to a new team and understanding how the coach wanted him to play mate.
@@SmartCookie2022’Face it’ as if your Nostradamus. Vieira has been sub par, but this notion that he has no chance whatsoever is short sighted imo.
@@SmartCookie2022 I agree.. He's garbage and has absolutely no redeeming skillsets for him to set this league alight. We literally wasted 34 million that could have been spent on Arda Guller who even Ozil reccommended two seasons ago, only for Real to swoop in. We are a JOKE at scouting players.. It's either Man city or chelsea rejects
Grealish was rubbish at first but he was not timid
He will be an important player for usu this season. Joined us with no pre season and didn't have an adaptation period to settle into the way we play. Some players take time to adapt and he seems like one of those. He will come good and I believe that
Adaptation period? He had a whole season 😂
@@Starwars0405exactly what I thought. This season beginning is make or break.
He might take 2 more seasons to adapt to Arteta's arsenal. Not only does he have to improve his physicality. He also needs to improve his determination, work rate, fighting spirit, keeping hold of the ball, literally every quality that a good midfielder needs. 😅
It's simple he is a high potency for passing and crossing but simply lack confidence. Look at Odegaard now, because he is club captain he needed to inbuild that confidence. It's more psychological than physical. My guy is even stepping on his own feet and falling.
I get your point, but ødegaard was player of the month in the second month after he came over on loan. He changed and elevated the team from day one. Vieira just isnt that guy.
I think Ødegaard also benefits from being older, having gone on loans, had to work really hard to prove he’s worth it. Fabio may just need more experience under his belt before he fits in at Arsenal.
@@snaggiz thats a good point, ødegaard had to climb the ladder and proved himself 2 leagues before he came to arsenal. He really had to work for it, ive followed him since he played the domestic league and with him you can really see the physical and mental progression from year to year, its like every year he has always come back better and better. There are stories about him from his time in holland how extreme he was, working like a dog, always first in and last out. One of his team mates said he used to take the trim bike into the sauna and just sweat it out like a madman. Arteta commented on ødegaards mentality in an interview this summer, brutal is the term he used.
Its some Norwegian mentality thing, haaland is the same, just extreme to the point of obsession. You can see how quickly both of them adapted to the premier league physically, you see the work rate in games. This training culture originated in some crazy state olympic training program for norwegian xc skiers. Those guys has the highest O2 uptake in world sports, they clean out the winter olympics every time winning 9/10 medals and this program has been transfered to other sports branches and produced dominant athletes such as ødegaard, haaland, the track running ingebrigtsen brothers who are currently smashing long distance world records and many others.
Thats what vieira is up against for that right sided nr 8 spot and frankly i dont think he can compete. He doesnt bring anything ødegaard doesnt have and he just gets destroyed in every metric head to head.
@@wildchild3862Wow.....just wow!! I didnt know this about our Odegaad!! We are very lucky to have him!! What a loss for Madrid.
Can't wait for season to start! COYG ⚽️👍💪
He needs to be the main CAM in English cup games to let him grow in confidence.
I’m a Chelsea fan and I love this channel (I’m worried about our entire club tbh)
❤
😂😂😂😂. Comment of the sencury bro
Your club will be fine
What are you worried about? With the players you've got and the new coach, it might take time but I genuinely think you guys can have a good season
I don’t really mind chelsea I just hate spurs and man united but I hope mudryk flops badly again and regrets his decision in going Chelsea in the first place
First,The potential is there, but the minutes aren't there for him at the moment.
in my opinion for smaller frame footballer, two things are important that help them counter the physical duels. First is close control and second is the short burst in acceleration. I think he lacks in both department. While people may think his control isn't bad but it is one needed for that frame of a footballer, see cazorla, xavi, iniesta, modric and even jack. Also they all had the second part that helped them move out of tight situations. Even when fabio's initial control of the ball is good his inability to move the ball quickly with his feet or have that burst forces him into physical duels
I saw it against Brenford last season☺️. I trust arteta
underrated post, this.
You're spot on about this, he doesn't seem to have the mobility of a top class player, certainly not near the ones you mentioned. He's a very good dribbler and has good passing and vision, but lacks the other important physical attributes to be a top level footballer, at least in England.
Looking great in under 21 competitions is a completely different kettle of fish to doing it at the very top level with all the grown ups.
I think Arsenal took a very expensive, calculated gamble on Vieira and I don't think it's going to pay off.
They need to loan him out to a mid table club, hope he has a standout season and see if they can cash in on him for more or less the same money.
Could've just written Dribbling 😂
bang on people talk about physicality he is just not that good at manuvering the ball
I can definitely see a good player in there. I don't think his 1st season was quite as bad as some make out either. Our europa league team played shit every game tbh was always a bit of a mess. Definitely not given up on him yet
Before I watch this video I wanna say I have been thinking same since the preseason. Nwaneri will take his spot. Viera feels it too. See his face in the Rice announcement video. He knows!
Nwaneri is 16, he wont.
@@sigfigronath Nwaneri showed more confidence and drive in half a game vs Nurnberg than Vieira has in his entire Arsenal career so far. Give him another year and he will.
Nwaneri is levels above Fábio Vieira and should get game-time ahead of him.
For me, you hit the nail on the head when you pointed out his best game was in the Odegaard role. For me, I felt that he was an Odegaard rotation player when bought in case of injury (you know Odegaard would’ve gotten a season ender if we had no backup, it’s the Arsenal way). So, the fact that Odegaard didn’t get injured has stifled Vieira’s minutes and output. I think, this season, with the Champions League, we will see more substantial rotation so he will get more minutes in that role where he (hopefully) will excel.
He is not good Enough mate
@@oviegrantdigbori9659It seems that way for now
@@oviegrantdigbori9659 Not sure how you can be so definitive when, he hasn't played many minutes, he hasn't played in (arguably) his strongest position and also, he's only 23!
I think ESR will rotate with Odegaard this season not Fabio.
@@oviegrantdigbori9659gnabry didn't seem good enough either. I say he deserves a chance next season.
I was worried about your hairline before icl

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
???
Daniel from Spotify noticing you is a great shout! I remember DMing you early on in your youtube days and you were a great help, can't wait to see your growth hit even higher (and maybe on spotify lol)!
Thanks again!
Currently, he's a very expensive Odegard back up. But there is a player there.
I think the main thing for me is confidence, you look at him compared to Sliva and you see Silva running at people and finding space because he knows from repetition and having confidence he can beat players where as Vieira is still unsure of what he can do at this level so doesn’t try to take most people on and becomes quite conservative in his actions, but when he does back himself and feels confident we see signs of brilliance, like some of his assists and goal against Brentford, I agree he needs to add more core strength which will help him become harder to knock off the ball and I’m certain he will be an excellent player for us in the coming years
I completely agree. He was quite woeful last season when he was given playing time. The main issue for me is that he doesn’t show for the ball enough. In fact he seems to hide from it. That makes him the worst player to rotate with Odegaard because literally everything goes through him. And then separately, for someone who’s supposed to be an assist merchant, he has a real knack of misplaying quite easy passes
So often you have players who have a lot going for them but lack end product. Vieira is a weird case where the opposite seems to be true.
Good way of putting it
@1:46 The best
I can't see how he gets into this new look arsenal....it's brimming with talent...but he is lightweight...but when you compare him to a modric...modric influences a game... Viera doesn't do that...and his surname puts him in the shadow of Patrick ☝🏾🤨💯🔥
Bruno Fernandes last season played more minutes than Fabio has his whole career. He literally just needs a loan where he is guaranteed starting time and you will se him shine.
This is the SAME feeling I have with HAVERTZ right now VIERA and HAVERTZ I AM GENUINELY WORRIED we have wasted money on this two!!!
watching him at porto,he'd actually sprint and run around,at arsenal,he doesnt do that for some reason
Bad weather
Just LET THE GUY PLAY.. let preseason play out.. let the season start.. let's have this convo end of the coming season.
I have a feeling he’s going to substantially elevate his game this season. Remember when Odergaard first came? He was ok. Now look at him. I think we’ll see something a lot better from Fabio this season.
I agree mate. he was okay in the game against nunmberg but struggled a little , seeing nwaneri in that game he literally lit up the game . i didnt see that with fabio. With the arrival of kai he has to perform this season if not i dont see him staying for long
I think Arteta needs to review his future next summer. £30m paid for him, atm his output is not good enough for that tag. Would be happy to see him loaned out, but currently not pl ready or suited
in the match against nurnberg, I heard Mikel on the touchline shouting "FABIO!! FABIOO!!!" so many times, indicating his positioning wasn't that great yesterday.
Also heard that.
Clearly worrying that he still cannot get his positioning right despite so many training session since he joined.
Sometimes Pep does it, he will learn and grow. Still young.
@@jackwilliam2965 You don't get time to learn and grow at Arsenal anymore, not at senior level. If you can't master it in your first year, what hope is there for your second?
A season long loan to a Sheffield/Burnley would do a world of good for him. Possibly a Ligue 1 team as well as the physicality is similar there..
I genuinely think with Vieira its his vision, hard one to say why in a youtube comment but i feel he just needs to grow into the team
He has probably the best final ball in the team, produce pieces of quality like how ozil did. Everything else he has to improve on but I really think his qualities lie in his final ball. He can be the type of player that can unlock a defense that plays very compact. I think back to these few times last season where he has produced quality:
- Weight of final ball to reverse pass to nketiah vs oxford
- Deliberately delaying his pass off to gabi to entice defender into making a decision vs villa
- Controlling the ball out of thin air, step over to gain yard of space then delivering the perfect cross to holding vs bodo
- Inch perfect cross to El nenys head vs oxford
There are other examples too
Yup, he's undoubtedly technically gifted and produces the rare outstanding moment. The problem is their rarity. He needs to be more involved in each game. When Odegaard plays, he's CONSTANTLY dictating the action. Viera goes missing for 90% of every game he plays. His contributions during the remaining 10% are usually fantastic, but he needs to be contributing more often! As much as Ozil was criticized for going missing, Viera is significantly worse. I don't know if it's a confidence issue or a system issue, but it's something he needs to fix.
It's also not a great sign that his replacement at Porto is putting up similar numbers, which would suggest his success at Porto may have been more about the team and their system, than his individual quality. Or maybe Eustaquio is just criminally underrated (as a Canadian and an Arsenal supporter, I hope it's the latter).
Banger as always from Alex!
Is this George or Bhavvs
Maybe Alex replying to his own video

Whoever it is, Big Fan
DR41 is a gunner btw😑
He should be willing to develop himself as well. Players who are willing to develop themselves utilize this pre-season to work on their body, their strength. I can remember Martinelli did that at the beginning of 21/22 season and he became a different player both physically and mentally. Henderson is doing the same even at the age of 33.
This season I expected the same from him. I expected he would utilize this pre-season to work on his body and strength. I expected to see a more muscular Fabio who couldn't be pushed 3 feet away with a simple touch by an opponent. But to my disappointment, I didn't see that sort of Fabio at the Nurnberg game. I saw the same Fabio from last season.
Time could be running out for him. He is already 23. He is very talented and also looks like a gentle lad, but that is not enough. He should be more determined to make it at the top level.
I agree. He may well be a lovely lad but that is not what we judge players on first. Saka is rare breed of tough and sweet. I fear he doesn't have a warrior mentality like Bernardo Silva. It can click but if it's not inside it won't. Let's hope.
It is like he falls, trips, gets pushed and loses the ball ALL the time
Surely we just desperately want him to be good because his name is Vieira. 🤷♂
I understand your points but I think he really needs to improve his strength. Just look at Bernardo, he isn't afraid of 1v1s , or putting tackles or fouls . But you see Fabio , the slightest breeze can knock him off . I think there's good player but he needs to improve. Havertz , ESR coming back and also acadmy players looking good .
I’m hoping it is an Odegaard situation. He came on loan, we showed him that we wanted him, believed in him and trusted him, and then WOAH!
Just found your channel and want to say you’re killing it man. Very based and interesting takes, and good structure on videos. Look forward to seeing new uploads 👌 keep it up lad
Thank you mate 😊
Fantastic channel , how have i missed this before , better late than never ...really good stuff !!
This year is probably make or break for FV. It might not be the final year of his Arsenal career but if he doesn't produce this season then loan or sell.
I agree, he’s body language also been down, even the Rice and Timber presentation
1. Premier League is harder & faster than Liga Portugal.
2. His pressure is bigger since he needs to fill in Odegaard shoes everytime Arteta calls him on.
3. Language, weather, different culture and other non-football related can affect him as a person too.
I hope everything will work out well for him in London. But I think he's more suited in Serie A than PL.
Vieira's ability for the half space cross and making it pinpoint is not to be discounted. He has a good eye for the final ball and definitely a good head for decision making. He makes intelligent runs into space but seems unable to carry past that.
His problem is confidence. After playing as a starter in porto, he now has to contend being on the bench, even with the minutes given.
With confidence, his agression returns together with his own perception of his abilities which is already there.
He actually didn't start that many games in Portugal
This video is valid. Arteta WILL be more ruthless going forward. Tierney is a more than capable left back, but we all know he starts on the bench because of what Zinchenko can do as opposed to do what Tierney does. We know that Nketiah starts on the bench even though he's a good fox in the box, whereas we need what Jesus provides.
With Vieira, no one simply knows what he offers that others don't.
he will be suited and excel in other league
Rare miss from you. Look at his attacking output in xG and xA even last season, it's at an absurd level, 99th percentile in everything. Output machine.
He's not KDB/Ode right now (though not even that far off).
This video is going to look very silly soon.
His career at Arsenal won’t move forward unless he bulks up. The premier league is incredibly physical.
There are 2 ways Vieira can earn playing time. 1) individual performances of the highest standard. 2) collaborative performances where the players around him have their best games with him in the squad.
There are a lot of rivals and pundits out there who think Arsenal's new signings as "this guy is there to improve depth" or "this guy is a winner".
I don't think Arteta and his braintrust are that shallow. In the past, we've had squad improvement by player exclusion - ridding profiles who didn't add to the team. The flip side is also possible, improvement by inclusion - having players who help their teammates be the best versions, even if they themselves aren't the best player in the world.
There's subtle parts to this, aside from stat padding. The runs, the presses, the misdirects that open up space. They may not draw the eye nor get in the stat box, but the coaches will notice.
Do I believe Vieira is capable of making others around him better? Yes I do. Do I believe he needs to also lessen his weaknesses? Yes to that too. Do I believe he will be given time? That depends on the performances of the players he improves. If they are more prolific or more steady with him around, he will be recognized for his contributions. If they aren't... well...
I think where he might be elite is the nuance in his decision making when it comes to his final ball. I remember the assists he got against wolves and Oxford being really interested in terms of the decisions he made to get the ball to Odegaard and Nketiah respectively. One thing is certainly clear though he absolutely cannot play the left 8 position. He should be used as a back up 10 or back up for saka on the right
For me i'm only worried when he played in the Xhaka position - he does better as a CAM/ CM from the right, he's still young and has a way to go.. The fact he's stayed in the squad thus far and isn't being loaned out yet I think Mikel see's something in him. He definitely needs to work on his physicality, but I think in the next 1/2 seasons after finding out his best position in the squad, we'll see what they bought him for.. Think he's more of a project rn
Great content as always!
I still believe in Vieira.
Just like you did Pepe, no doubt.
First season is too early to judge, but even then, I haven't really seen even flashes of something that tells me he'll be great. Good maybe.
But let's judge him in a year's time.
He’s simply not built for the premiership. It’s not a lazy analysis, he has not adapted his game to accommodate his physical shortcomings.
Have high hopes for Him
We've now seen Arteta use Fabio Viera in a variety of ways this pre-season. Have you reassessed how you feel about him?
I'm not worried. If he comes through, fine. If he doesn't, we'll still have a good team
Me too and he’s so good we need him to stay and develop into the special player he is
He needs a loan to prove himself. Otherwise he needs to be sold ASAP.
It just sucks that with kai, theres a few other right side 8s. Unless kai really plays on the left 8 most of the time I just dont see how he will get major mins.
Big year for him, but he's a boy on the team, hope he works out!
That Mertesacker Koscieln stat is actually very impressive.
I agree with your 3 points, i also feel its his confidence. Missing that penalty against united (even if its preseason) doesnt help. I think hes slightly shunned by Odegaards presence. It doesnt help Odegaard being a captain as well.
Missed pre-season because he had an injury after the purchase, clearly would not have been at the level we needed him to be at as the season progressed and equally I believe that left 8 role that Xhaka excelled at, was initially for him. Now heading into a full pre-season, we will see what he can really do.
The old pre-season excuse. So, by your reckoning Vieira should knock it out the park this season, or do you have a ready-made excuse for that misfire as well?
I agree with. He is 1 of 3 players I have to improve or need to improve next season.
To me seemed like Arteta wasn’t impressed by his lack of effort.
Its true, he hasnt had enough minutes. But same goes for ESR, who already has proven his worth and should be above Vieira in the pecking order.
Tbh I get the same vibe from him that I did from Nicolas Pepe. He seems to lack drive in my opinion. I don't feel like he has the "get up and go" mentality where you play the ball forward with intent. He plays quite conservative passes a lot of the time and can't carry a ball with intent and drive. I feel like he goes through the motions a bit too much. I'm not seeing the same desire that he showed at his previous club and I don't feel like he's really sold on what is being asked of him.
I’ve been preaching this to all that would listen. Vieira needs to acclimatise to the prem on the RW and then eventually be brought back into the middle. Harry Redknapp did that with a certain Luka Modric when he first arrived at Spurs and that worked out alright.
Phenomenal stuff as always man
Thank you very much my man, super kind. ❤️
Even though he’s really lean, I think he just needs to flip the switch on his mentality. Even after that, it’s an open question if he will integrate with this team. He has this year to get it together and I think he knows that.
Vieira is class in the last third of the pitch, either goal scoring either assisting either dribling.
I do think that he may be one of the most important players for us this season purely because I see him being the closest to being odegaard rotation, even if MO stays fit he cant play every game
Finally someone recognizes the Kolscieny/Per partnership. I thought they were excellent
I feel he is a Santi like player without the two footedness. I think he will grow into it.
A very interesting analysis very well delivered.
Yeah Im also worried about Vieira. Worried that he is at Arsenal lol
Who’s here after the MONSTER game he had against Fulham today
Me
Bro, why so dramatic. This is sport. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Nothing to “worry” about. People adding dumbass stress to their lives man.
5:20 just shows what a Owner he would be. He would care more much then Kroenke...
He needs a loan to another club in the prem to gain confidence. He joined and rarely features. Now with Rice and Havertz, its going to be tough. Not to mention his lean and needs to put some weight on. I think a loan to a Nottingham Forrest or Luton who could use him might help him gain confidence.
I can point at one thing he is elite at... His dead ball delivery is better than just about everyone else in our squad...
Personally I'd love to see him hit the gym a touch and bulk up a little. Doesn't have to be a massive change, I just have a feeling that lookin into a mirror with bigger arms and legs might do some good for the lads confidence. Almost like "yeah, I'm bigger now, I'm gonna dominate". Plus, with the extra minutes he's likely to get with all the extra games we have coming I do hope he builds up some momentum and gets stuck in. He's left me frustrated a lot recently but you can tell there's something in there
Vieira is for the future, hes a talent and a versatile one. If they can xhaka around Vieira
I personally saw Fabio Viera as our own Benardo Silva of Man City.
He scored a banger against barca he's a good sub, he can score goals.
Viera's only attribute is his pass. He's an assist machine if given the space which you don't get in the premier league. He can't create his own he's not quick enough. That said it's up to Arteta to see if it's possible to create space for him somehow. Our tactics can change with Declan at the 6 because he drives with the ball, meaning he will beat a man and attract more to defend him as he drives, opening up space. So maybe that'll work. It doesn't with Partey because Thomas will receive the ball and find a pass to our attackers. Viera receiving a ball this way is always met with someone bigger than him forcing him to pass it backwards again.
I really think Declan's progressive dribbling is going to unlock a lot for us, and I'm not sure people are realizing it yet. Right now we can beat the press and reliably get the ball to our attackers, but they're typically met with defenders who are ready for it. With Declan he's going to force at least one defender to him and he'll be going with pace. Also now that Saliba is back we'll be playing our usual high line. With Havertz and Rice in the midfield it's going to be very difficult for teams to get passed us in their own half. Vierra can succeed in games where we're controlling possession in the opposition half.
He was looking to create space a lot of time. More hiding in player shadow
What do you think of ramsey ?. Highest scoring centre mid in Arsenal's history
I’m benfiquista, but I like Fábio. He has the talent to play for Arsenal but is best 2 positions are offensive/creative midfielder and left midfielder/winger. This to positions are occupied by the two best players of the team…
His states don’t lie, if he gets play time he can be very decisive. Not sure if he will have the minutos that he deserves
Your subtle jokes always get me😂😂😂
he needs minutes to boost confidence, even at City haaland always gets subbed n the 70th minute for alvares
Good insight! The jury is still out on Fabio. He needs games to prove himself but will the games being offered to him be enough. However its up to his to make a good impression when given the opportunity.
Part of me wouldn't mind seeing him go on loan this season.
When he plays without ødes his creativity gets enhanced but with ødes it gets a slight dip ,now... the only way to see his chances of coming into the first team would be if there is a slight shift in the forward department where saka cuts in and ødes shifts to the left and Fabio to the right to create more chances...🤷🏽♂️
I think, Arteta envisions him as a David Silva type of player. He hopes he model him in that manner, Bernardo Silva Model too.
First one up in here!...I still feel he'll come clean no panic
Not seen enough of him to make a real assessment wouldn’t be wise to write him off especially with our managers penchant for development ...
I wish we could afford to loan him. But we need him in squad.
Mate - you said perfectly what I have been thinking for months. Couldn't agree more. I often brought up the Robert Pires argument last year with friends. Pires had a poor first year and looked like he couldn't handle the physicality of England. Then he was brilliant. I also hope we might see the same from Vieira. But I am also worried about Fabio Vieira.
