    I remember playing Liverpool at home 2 seasons ago, we drew the game, but Liverpool were ascending at the end of the game. The last 10 or 15 minutes of the game our strategy became defend, win the ball and kick it to Saka. That was pretty much all we did and it saved us a point. Love Saka.

    We have players like Nelson and Jesus who can play on the right. The problem isn't needing a backup. It's Arteta not wanting to drop Saka. Players like Kudus and Olise aren't going to come to Arsenal to sit on the bench. Assuming Nwaneri is promoted to the first team and one of Jesus or Nelson stays, then we still have the bodies. Trossard and Martinelli already compete for minutes on the left, so ideally, we sign a player who is either an out and out striker or one who can play both as a striker and on the right. Aside from that, we need either a 6 or an 8 for an extra body in midfield and maybe another left back option. It's fine margins for this squad now, but Arteta needs to have trust in other players to deputise for Saka from time to time.

    I actually liked your suggestion of Nwaneri as I only really thought of him as a CM. It actually makes a lot of sense. There has to be SOME sort of pathway for rated academy talent, and a role of cover to our generational talent would mean less load, lowered expectations while he adapted and (hopefully) plenty of cameos with games well won by the 65th. Isn't it also what Arsene did with Aaron Ramsey while getting him ready for CM - wasn't the reasoning something like teaching him to play with only half a pitch to exploit was great preparation for the full pitch role? So if Nwaneri was a hit or even the potential was being seen to develop, we've saved ourselves a shedload and brought on an obvious talent.

    Great video! sometimes it feels like most fans think the real world is football manager where you can stockpile players, not realizing that in the real world, these athletes sacrifice everything to develop and play football. I don't think Arsenal need a Saka back-up (Fabio, Martinelli and Jesus can create different attacking situations from the right), the club needs to focus more on moving players on and if it's possible, go in for "Kante" like DM and a LB. Jesus and Kai can easily give the team 15 goals each and if Martinelli can increase his output, it'll be a storm. Remember, this team scored the MOST goals in the EPL, a striker would be nice but definitely not a priority. Also, remember that signing players takes away a development opportunity for the young guns.

    What you’ve described here at length is totally spot on. And the fact that arteta’s strategy is reliant on a player is a double-edged sword. You cant build your team so much around 1 player. That’s what happened to barcelona after messi. Even guardiola evolved this season with not overly relying on both haaland and KDB.
    I actually think the term “back-up” is wrong. What we need is an alternative.
    Let’s face it, we are now challenging for the title so everyone will analyse us like an open book. I want someone that can totally throw a spanner in their plan.
    Like how zinchenko changed the inverted full-back model for us, i want that kind of impact.
    And for that, i want to see vieira & nwanieri.

    Remember we were very close to to breaking our transfer record (at the time) and bringing in Raphinha. So Arteta obviously sees it as an option to bring in a top winger and have them rotate to some degree.
    City would be the obvious model to look at. They've always had multiple high end wingers and rotated. I think we pushed Saka harder than we wanted this yr due to market circumstances but we can't do that every yr. He will get injured.

    I do really like the idea of using Nwaneri as Saka/Odegaard, end of game replacement.
    As you say, it looks almost impossible to actually find a guy that can allow Saka to have 10-15 games of rest per season, but what if we were able to regular bring him off 10 or 15 minutes before the game ended?
    There was so many occasions this season where we were 3+ goals ahead, Arteta would make his 70th minute substitutions, and Saka would be made to play the full 90.
    What if we began treating it that as soon as we have cleared won the game, Saka goes off and begins his rest? Nwaneri would therefore be able to play say 15 ish games with the first team, however it would be low risk opportunities, similar to what Pep did with Rico Lewis.
    Use Nwaneri the same way England used Grealish in the euros 2021.

Great midfielder-winger type of player for us could be Xavi Simons but I'm sure he'd hard to get. • @arthurbrem
    @arthurbrem 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Surely Olise is a shout. Depends what kind of money Palace want for him but I think he could solve many issues. First of all, he is potentially a generational talent and already has premier league experience. He could play on the right and do a brilliant job if Saka is out, which was the main focus of the video. But with his level of talent he would need to play more games. He (or Saka) could play in Odegaard's current position and still bring great ball control, creativity, killer passing and crossing, as well as potentially more goals and moments as he grows and blossoms under Arteta. Odegaard would then shift to LCM and have the chance to evolve his game in order to become less predictable and more influential by having more favourable angles on his left foot. Rice plays CDM and shifts to RCM when Timber inverts to create the box midfield.
    Overall, we would be adding a generational talent who could give us options, big moments, and solve so many issues that we want to adress this summer window. I really believe that the 22 year old could already take us to a different level and set us up beautifully for the years to come.
    What do you think Alex ? Wouldn't signing Olise allow Arsenal to adress the LCM, Saka "replacement" and "big moments" player issues you've been discussing recently ? Pls lmk :)

  • @justalffie
    @justalffie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great perspective!
    I think solution is exactly what most of us were up in arms against Arteta over - different combinations of play with different personnel
    Say get Neto for example - with fitness issues, even he doesn't expect to play every game but when he does, and Saka is benched for whatever reason, we switch play to speed and crosses as opposed to Saka approach .. Neto is an example of course but point is .. solution to Saka backup is a different player that calls for a different pattern of play
    But yeah .. there's No Saka backup in all aspects .. just a backup to give him a rest or cover his absence

    I agree with your points. I feel the biggest dilemma we face is that no right winger under the age of 25 should even want to come to Arsenal, it would just stunt their growth. I think ACD could be an exception to this if arsenal offer him the contract. I don't think there's a perfect option but I'd like to take one of the Bayern boys as competition for Saka.

    I wouldn't really mind Martinelli-Jesus-Havertz or a Martinelli-Havertz-Jesus. Imo, we should definitely consider Havertz. He's definitely a drop off from Saka, but if he's told to hold up play and cycle the ball, I think he could do the job well. That's actually why I'm so high on signing a great CF or Striker to reduce the need for Havertz to complete take ons.

  • @610vegas

    Its possible to solve and most big clubs like bayern etc do so. You just have to scout well, to solve this problem your looking for probably a young versatile player who is ready for mins but does not need the weight of the world on his shoulders, bakayoko, desire doue or if your prepared to spend big a xavi simmons or kudus type. Also I think jesus suits the job as well as you can probably need. so I not sure its a problem. People talk about because saka is super human and can just always play think it was the same for the salah's of this world. To be honest maybe the best solution is to change the system slightly maybe more of a double pivot in some games so he doesn't;t have to do the insane amount of tracking back. I think the odegaard rotation option might be a bigger problem and a rice alternative.

  • @mrwaltermathews

He's different & we'll be losing a lot of Saka's unreal qualities, I agree. However, I trust all we want is someone to pose a threat on the wings which neither of the other options who played on the right wing in Saka's place this past season did which Martinelli showed that he can against Everton. With more 1 on 1 work with the coaches, he can improve his ability on the right wing imo.
