These gold milling studies are very important to determine how much gold can be recovered from ore at a certain grind size and how much of the recovered values are free milling vs locked up and not liberated.

Good job, great video. One of the things that has to be considered about finer grinding for serious commercial mining is what percentage of the gold in those tailings is still gravity recoverable. I think a significant portion - especially of the smallest fraction - would only be recoverable by leaching. To get that super small gold you will need a leach circuit. Some places with a lot of gold in the sulfides might be best processed with a flotation circuit.

Can a person make some sort of mini-version of a flotation circuit? I've tried various methods but with me, it's nothing but an exercise in do and fail or do and it works. I'd like to know more about flotation. I get the feeling I'm missing out on something crucial. We have 14gms per ton of gold and about the same for silver on our property and I'm trying to find the best method of recovery after crushing. I have largely failed in my efforts so far in recovery. I'm thinking my next purchase should be a shaker table but they're expensive.

I've got a silly idea. Spin that hammer mill a 180° turn and the spiral classifier so it drops back into the hammer mill and reprocess the classifier output. I know you add wear and tear to the hammer mill but you are only adding O&M which is variable based off of operation and not a fixed capital cost.

Very well done! And thanks for making this important video. Every small prospector has to evaluate the costs and time involved, myself included. I'm still one or two steps below with a hand crusher then panning free mill gold. It would benefit me if you were to mention today's costs for each piece of equipment you are demonstrating. I guess my next step would be to send off bags of high graded ore but the one local ore processor I spoke with has a minimum order of $2,500 and, for me, that jump is still a bit too high. There are probably thousands of little guys like me for every one that can justify taking the next step. Again, thanks for this post.

I would be curious to see what the difference in recovery would be of the panned #1 and if you smelted everything in the #1. It looks like the amount of material would reasonable for a single smelt and if you would treat it as if you were smelting sulfides with the Basic Iron flux, you might be able to increase your return. I would suspect that the heavier sulfides in the #1 would have a higher concentration of precious metals (especially silver) than in the other numbers and physical extraction via snuffer seems like it could miss some gold. What I am thinking is something along these lines:
1) Split #1 50/50 and pan half of it and smelt the other half
2) Mix in some lead collector metal into the smelt and then cupell that button directly
3) Do the normal process for pan recovery
4) Compare results. If possible, use XRF to see if smelting increases the concentration of non-gold precious metals in final button
The big question would be if the losses from the smelting process would be greater than the losses from physical extraction VIA snuffer bottle. I would expect that smelting the #1 would likely increase the concentration of silver in the final button which may be undesirable. Might not necessarily be more economic for smaller ton ranges but may scale better for larger ones.
I want to ask Mr. Jason, about the cupell stove, how many watts is the electric power and how much resistance is the nickeline wire and is the nickel wire directly connected to electricity or with additional components, please make a video on how to make it, thanks I am a fan of your every video, I'm from Indonesia , thank you Mr. Jason, always success

Would secondary classifying to multiple fractions from 50 to 200 mesh with the cons result in better recovery on a second run on the table,or would it be to much work?

do you ever do a sample test of your tailings to see if you have any gold left over that the hammer mill doesn't get out? or are you not worried about it? or, perhaps if there where sulfides that had gold locked up and not free-mill gold, do you ever re-process the tailings chemically?
I was thinking if you could do a comparison between small mesh sized rocks before crushing graduating to larger rocks and gold recovered versus mesh size and the cost to crush them based on mesh size ,same weight sample for comparison though . I am thinking since gold tends to be in the smaller rocks there will be a cutoff size where it won’t be economical to crush them for there gold because of energy cost and wear and tear on the equipment. You could test more distant locations to see if the mesh size theory holds up somewhat universally . Please do a video on that.

i always wondered do you sell the quartz sand after the process of liberating the gold to a sand dealer or is it possible to clean the quartz so that it's hi-grade quartz?
as quartz is the main ingredient in ICs and apparently the world cant produce to satisfy the need for quartz.

percent recovered should have the total gold in the denominator. 1 - (.00045/(.00045+.00195)) = 81.25%. Showing an example where the percent recovery was smaller would make this more apparent. If your head ore recovered .002 and your tail ore was .001, you can easily see that you recovered 2/3 (66.7%) of the gold with your head ore, but 1-(.001/.002) is only 50%. Thats why 1-(.001/(.001+.002)) is the correct calculation. 🙂 Love all your explanations, keep it up!
not sure, but would acid reduction recover most of the metals from the tailings? probably cost prohibitive... but there are those who want to hit maximum recovery

And don't forget that sand is a building material that you can sell. Can't make concrete without adding sand and under the bottom plate of a house you need a couple of cubic metres of sand.

Just ask Achimedes. You can calculate the gold and silver by using its specific weight. Should give you a good idea how much gold you got without using toxic acids.

I worry you're missing a lot of your fines by filtering with toilet paper or shop towels.plain white tissue paper(the kind you wrap gifts in, not the kind you wipe with) is pretty much the same stuff as the expensive lab filter paper
Toilet paper was an okay idea and so is using a shop towel but what about coffee filter that seems like a better option
