I love this movie, but I wish they would’ve shown more about the Clovers’ lives-what their family lives were like, who they dated, how they met their friends, etc.-like they did with the Toros.
Tbh I think the only reason why this film is framed though the perspective of the Toros is so it can have mass audience appeal for a predominantly white country (The U.S.) I think this film would have worked better had the clovers been the main protagonists. They are the true underdogs, after all.
@Jiggling Baby This response was very unfortunate and could have been worded better. Probably should have said "black people" instead of "blacks" lol. And just white people without throwing innocent in there. Maybe "unknowing" instead of innocent. Idk... Just sounded a little dated.
If you watch the original trailer they actually had tons more scenes of the clovers and even gave Isis a love interest. But almost all of those scenes were cut from the movie.
They were BOTH really good, but in the final competition, I still think the Toros should have won it on points. The Clovers were good, but the innovation was definitely on the side of the Toros. But them being repeat champions wasn't part of the narrative anyways. The Clovers finally got the recognition that they had been denied for years and that was the point. I like how the Team captains had such respect for each other at the end. True Sportsmanship :D
And the way that one girl goes "Do your thing, Isis!" is awesome. We could tell their vibes were immaculate even though they didn't get that much screentime.
This completely went over my head as a teenager but now I think this movie was kind of ahead for its time. The way the talent and innovation of African Americans gets stolen and used by white Americans while the rest of their lives are completely ignored. Even Isis scoffing at Torrance's attempt to assuage her own guilt is pretty incredible.
So sad about Natina Reed. Looks like a tragic accident. NOT a hit and run as originally reported. She stepped out into the road in bad visibility and got hit by a Honda Accord :( The drivers were investigated and deemed NOT at fault. There are times I've been distracted and stepped out into the road, THANK GOD no one was driving near by at the time. :( Rest in Peace Natina Reed. You were one of the BEST THINGS about Bring it On :(
The camera angle at the beginning is everything...it’s placed at a spot where the viewer almost has to “look up” to the Clovers, as if they are some royalty to be revered. Obviously the performance in itself is amazing but that camera angle plays some tricks in there too.
I agree Ashley. It goes over a lot of peoples heads, but true cinema fans can pick apart the way scenes and shot and how they relate to the specifics of a particular scene.
Torrance was a victim of her white privilege as she had no clue where the cheers were coming from. Once she found out, she realized she had to rectify this and come up with something innovative and original.
Honestly, this movie showed a lot of underline issues like in this scene, Big Red (Toros ex Captain) came to this predominantly black school and recorded and stole their cheers and literally took them back to her predominantly white school and taught them the cheers as if it was an original idea.
Well it's like my Dad always said, Black people have rhythm, white people don't, that's why a white person dancing with their hands over their head looks weird. Always thought it was funny
The way the men came stumping in was lit asffff!! I just watched the movie the other day it made me want to cry because it just being such memories it was more pure back then and me and my sister out played that darn movie😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
I wish I went to this high school they was lit AF one of my fave movies in high school.. this movie made me wanna become a cheerleader until I went to tryouts in real life n shit got real lol I realized quickly I could only b a clover in my head n not in real life lol
This is my favorite scene in the film. Absolutely stunning! It reminds me of a military formation at work with the precision and coordination of the cheerleaders!
That's George Washington Carver colors. A school in New Orleans, LA. I just know that school was for all blacks during segregated times. They used to fight each other at the other schools. White and black people did not got alone. Carver was all blacks. So, go Clovers. Show them what you made of.
Did you not watch the movie? SHE wasn’t the villain. The face she was making was the realization that everything they learned was stolen. BIG RED was the villain.
Torrance isn't the villain but the antagonist. Big Red was worse and stole but Torrance was part of the villainess cheer at the beginning which made them the perfect team for the Clovers to beat
