You and your fellow railroaders are the lifeblood of your railroad, just like it is the lifeblood of the communities it serves. Switch cars at industries. Keep people moving while running local passenger trains. Run trains with a purpose in transition era Appalachia - in Railroader!
Remember to eat your gravel' kids! It's all part of a 'ballast' breakfast.
When I trained Conductors, I would drive the point home to never say "go ahead and..." or even "go ahead" when giving a direction. Always taught them they were not asking they were giving a directive. If they said "go ahead and back up," the engineers would sit still until the new guy or gal figured it out, OR, the conductor would step in and correct them.
In the mining region of South Wales (UK), they had a similar deal - haul up empty, brake down full. They did end up using tanks with 8 drivers - tanks because of the curves running down the valleys (longer engines wouldn't cope), and the shortness of the line didn't require copious amounts of coal or water, but 8 drivers because a 1000ton load of coal needs the friction to control the descent and, in the day, those coal cars were unfitted (no brakes!!!).
No car brakes and steep grades sounds exciting :)
They did have brakes, but essentially just a crude handbrake: no automatic, so no setting brakes while running, and very time consuming
I've been following this series for a few weeks now. I find your videos for railroader are the best.
Wow, thanks! That's high praise
My Grandfather had an old lamp which was used for that "special connection with Al" - the top rotated for Red/Green/White internal lens. You would change it to the appropriate color, to indicate to the driver, what you wanted when at a distance. Sadly, all that paraphernalia was donated to one of the UK train museums when he died.
It's amazing what they could accomplish with a few lights and whistles
I’m really enjoying this game! It’s addicting! A definite step up from railroads online.
I take Ela cars to Bryson first and make sure that they are at the front of the train heading back so I can switch them at Ela easily.
I've been doing the same. It's the way they face that determines how to switch them in order
Coal Tower replenishment cars always block as the last cars in the interchange - and they're not always blocked in the correct sequence either (even with favorable blocking set).
It would be nice if we could purchase teardrop loops at the end of the track lines so we could easily turn passenger trains around.
Nice run, Kerbo. Thank you!
Well done with the montage. Love this series.
Thank you!
If you haven’t looked into railroad hand signals before it’s a fascinating subject; Hyce has a fairly good video on it, and there are railroad manuals online explaining them
So those 15 25 and 30 signs are there for a reason. I derail near Ela.
Yea, the fuel cars do not spawn. They are just changed to full where they sit so if your like me and had one on each end of an interchange track the entire track was blocked and ended up having to wait 4 hours for the rest of my days cars.
When you get around to installing signals beware a bit. The signal block at Bryson doesn't function quite right. The signals there protect only the switches leading into Bryson and not the block of track between them. Example: If you have a passenger train waiting at the station on track 1 and you leave the switches lined for that track. Any other trains coming in should get a stop signal but they don't Instead they get an approach signal. So be careful moving multiple trains around Bryson with signals.
There are multiple blocks in between those signals so that makes sense. I've played around with the CTC signals in sandbox mode
@@KerboOnYT Oh i see. I thought it was one long block not multiple
The signal is not an approach either when the switches are reversed. It is a restricting which then requires a train to operate at restricted speed. Restricted speed requires a train to be able to stop within half the range of vision short of an issues ( mid-aligned switch, trains, cars, etc...)
The settings for blocking by stop appears to be broken with the last update.
I’m having trouble with loading logs at Connelly Creek how do you activate this site to load logs on the log cars?
The tutorial teaches you this. I highly recommend starting a company mode save and going through the tutorial
Have you accepted a contract with the sawmill yet? I saw that be the issue once for one of the pre-test streamers
I literally just finished watching the massive switching episode (S1E15) not five minutes from when this uploaded (then went to the Cordele, GA railcam to watch the CSX New York Central Heritage unit go by in their archive). Great timing.
As for the actual video, everything was great. Possibly the Bryson coal tower car at the end was because everything else was a contract, and the coal car for the tower was just a simple waybill? I'm not sure on that one, but, at least you didn't have to dig it out from the center of the consist before pulling away with the Alarka freight. Though, I am a little curious how passenger service is going to work between Alarka and Alarka Junction, as the Junction passenger pickup is on one leg, and Alarka proper is on another. Can't wait to see what you do and how you are going to proceed. Making me want to get the game once I have the funds to do so.
Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see the next one.
Alarka Junction passengers can load from either track so it's no problem. Thanks for watching!
man this game gets busy really quickly
Too bad you can't choose the order in which you have the cars. That way you travel to your destination and drop the cars off the back as you make your way there.
The default is to block them correctly so it works out great. The only caveat is the cars I own such as coal hoppers. I need to put them on the interchange better because they don't move, they just get refilled.
Your heaviest locomotive is.. a K-35 right-
Yep, the Mighty Mikado is the star of the fleet for now
Another excellent video! Keep up the good work! I totally agree with @switchtrack08!
That's very kind, thank you
