    • @remasteredretropcgames3312
      @remasteredretropcgames3312 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Point of impact changes. Recoil is roughly the same but projectile loiter is considerably different. Basically the slower .40 takes longer to exit the barrel under the same recoil, so it lands higher than .357 sig at defense ranges which is counter intuitive because as range opens up, the sig also drops less. This is not good advice.

      I agree ...this does not compare apples to apples as is evident before the shots are fired..
      The major differences in energy is the telling tale...
      A head to head test of equal energies is more informative even if using different bullet weights. Only then could one determine which "bullet" performs better.

      @Grynslvr2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @K Hawk wrote: "...different calibers with the same weight." Everyone keeps skipping over this. These are DIFFERENT CALIBERS. Since they have different diameters, why are we worried about having the same weight? To keep this scientific, Fudd's first law of motion states that "If you push anything hard enough, it must fall over." There is a little known corollary to that law which states "skinny things penetrate easier than fat things." That is why nails are long and thin instead of being short and squat. I could therefore have predicted that a .357diameter projectile would out penetrate one of .40 diameter.
      All silliness aside, this was a test of two readily available calibers which fit into the same niche market. They are both primarily serious business rounds, rather than target rounds, or test rounds. Both are from the same manufacturer. Both are designed for maximum penetration. Both fit into the same sized firearm. I consider this a valid test when keeping in mind all those caveats. Now if I am ever attacked by a gang of sheet aluminum...

    • @TeranRealtor
      @TeranRealtor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It seems to me - that a valid comparison would be between "If I was to carry a 40 cal, here is the ammo I'd probably use" VS "If I was to carry a 357, here is the ammo I'd probably use."
      I don't think I'd ever buy ammo (for any gun) and alter it's characteristics by filing down some of the weight off the bullets.

    Damn you actually have an M&p 357 sig. I had the compact and it would lock open sometimes before the mag was empty... I sold it and bought a Glock 33 and have not turned back. Still have my m&p 2.0 FDE 5 inch with a 357 sig barrel though and I’m thinking about doing the same but with a shield.

    • @ThePenetrationChannel
      @ThePenetrationChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I had the 357C back in the day. I traded that off and bought the fullsize. It is now the only 1.0 I still have left. I replaced them all with 2.0s. Thanks for watching.

    • @FilmThePoliceFTP
      @FilmThePoliceFTP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Penetration Channel you should be able to use the 357 sig barrel in a 2.0 40 cal. If you’re like me, you probably prefer it with the 357 stamp on the slide, but the 2.0 lower is a bit more durable. Just FYI.

    • @ThePenetrationChannel
      @ThePenetrationChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FilmThePoliceFTP that's true. I definitely like the 2.0 model more than the previous gen.

      The Penetration Channel also, if you’re interested in ballistics and FPS.. check out KKM precision. If you want to get some good power out of those underwood rounds (especially the 65 grain 357 sig extreme defender) KKM will make you a 5 inch barrel that fits the pro series 1.0/ FDE 2.0 40s that get 2200 plus FPS out of the 65 grain round. I’m currently waiting on a 6 inch 357 sig barrel for my Glock 24. I am also looking into the 357 sig just right carbine... very curious to see what they’d get on a 17 inch barrel.

    Having owned both calibers, I would say for guns in stock form, the 357sig obviously offers hotter rounds that deliver more FT lbs energy, this is a fact. Also, the 40+p stuff I wouldn't feel safe in most stock guns(they suggest aftermarket barrels for hot 40 rounds etc). That being said, a 357sig case is actually longer, and has thicker casing walls than a 40 casing, for added strength. A 357sig is not just a necked down 40. Both are great, but I would place the 357sig and 10mm up at the top as far as energy, with 45 and 40 and the 9 not far behind. All get the job done!

    • @thenewgunnertrw2025
      @thenewgunnertrw2025 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They aren't that different. The actual size of the 357sig is .355" the .40 is well .40" a difference of .045" to put that in context, notebook paper is about .005" so the difference is only 9 sheets of paper. When talking about diameter, split that 9 in half... so 4.5 sheets of paper wrapped around the 357sig bullet makes it the same diameter as a .40S&W.

      @@thenewgunnertrw2025 You forgot that diameter is a linear 1 dimensional measurement while surface area is a 2 dimensional measurement. The area of a circle that's .355 inches wide is 0.1 sq inches. While the area of a circle that's .4 inches wide is 0.13 sq inches. So the .40 is making a 30% larger hole.

    Hey! What light do you have on your M&P? Can you tell me the Brand/Model/Output? I like how short it is! Also Glad you made this vid, it confirms what I was thinking. It will def over penetrate inside a house type setting, and I dont want my ammo to just poke a small hole thru then just go right out not causing fragmentation or tumbling. This type ammo would be more for firing into a vehicle being able to penetrate windshields and sheet metal.
