My mom let me take lessons 60 years ago and I still remember some cords. But I haven’t held a guitar 🎸 in ten years but I’m gonna get one. I’ve been watching TH-cam videos and have learned a lot from them. Thanks to all the TH-cam teachers.
Shane, thank you so much. I'be beem struggling with learning guitar over the last TEN years. Sometimes I tried, other times I would leave that way. So last month, I finally found your classes, and I began playing A Horse with no Name. Man, I'm really glad I can actually play music with my own hands now. Thank you
I like how you teach strumming also, most teachers simply emphasis the chords. You can memorize every chord, but if you don’t know how and where to strum and pluck, the guitar remains silent!
wish I had internet and your videos when I was learning 48 yrs ago... All I had was Bert Weedons.. "tune in a day"... Stumbled on your postings by accident and watched several... Totally recommend any new player to your channel. great personable and relaxed approach to teaching guitar basics with some cool tunes too
Hey - thank you Steven - very glad to have you here and I very much appreciate you taking the time to comment. It helps me with my approach. Cheers, Shane
You're such a great teacher. I'm so glad I found this playlist and your channel. Practiced A horse with no name for a few days and now I was excited to come home and learn a new song. Thank you!!!
Been tuning into Shane for a while now especially when I get hung up on something. Always liked the guy and now I know why - he's wearing a floatplane shirt! Can't go wrong with someone that likes airplanes!!
I'm eight months into this, I started at the age of 61. Trucking around the country it seems I only have but a few minutes (5-10)a day to practice, there fore the progress is slow. But I look forward every evening to a little time with your lessons!
Love the lessons. Definitely the best I've found. Finally starting to get somewhere after a couple of years of just "having" a guitar. Horse with no name was the first tune my wife ever recognised. Now to get this one mastered!!! Really want to get to playing Norwegian wood. Love your lesson on it, but its a bit in the future....
Excellent !!! Really like how you teach !!! I do not know all of those note that way you explain G D 😂😂😂 but I going to learn and follow you the path 😂 Thank you so much for your time its very valuable .
Thank you for these videos.. I've just started playing this Christmas and having a blast learning new techniques and songs.. keeps up the great work ..
In a you tube video lesson with Tommy Emanuel(?), Tommy said it was very important to feel anf move you body to the groove of what you are playing. You are a great example of that notion. Most other you tube teachers (?) either don't show themselves or are very stiff when playong. Jon MacClennan is an exception but pales next to you/
Awesome! already learnd A horse with no name, now going for this song and your tutorial helps me alot then all the other tutorials. So keep up the good work!
Enjoyed the lesson. I note though that at the beginning you say to keep your thumb from creeping up over the edge of the fretboard when playing the A minor, but it looks towards the end when you play through the song at speed that you aren't following your own advice! Well, I guess you don't need to as it sounds fine. I will try it both ways but my thumb, which seems to have a mind of it's own, often ends up kind of wrapping around or at least laying on the edge of the fretboard.
Use a metronome. You don't even need to buy one. Get an app for your phone, and depending on how much experience you have with those chords, start off slow; around 60 beats per minute. When you feel comfortable with your starting speed, go up until you reach ~150. 150 is faster than the song, so by mastering that speed you should have no problem keeping up with the original recording. Repetition is key. Try that everyday for at least 20 minutes and in a week you should nail it without issues.
@@as7river man cant thank you enough for your instant reply ..... I pretty much have the chords locked down but my timing still off . So you reckon play it to the metronome slowly for a week and should be on lock ? Thanks so much ... really any bit of advice is appreciated .
Thanks Music Is Truth - great question. I agree with the reply below - but if you can't seem to stay with the metronome try playing to the original recording. You can get an app that slows it down if you are still struggling with any of the chord changes. My very best to you and hope you have fun with it - Happy New Year! Shane
Hey Mr Shane Wondered if your 814ce is a newer model Taylor with the “V” bracing? Really comes thru ringing like a bell- love it! Thanks again Rick in California
Hey Rick! Thanks for your message - my 814 is about a year old now - not the new bracing system. You are hearing it plugged directly into the recorder on the videos. There are a couple of videos where I used my 20 year old 814 through a microphone. I really love these guitars. Cheers, Shane
I can play sweet home alabama, and wonderwall, but the switching of chords in this song are very challenging for me and when I play it sounds like crap.
Probably lots of other examples, but I note that this song has pretty much the same progression as Mazzy Star's beautiful "Fade Into You." th-cam.com/video/ImKY6TZEyrI/w-d-xo.html - maybe transposed up a tone.

It’s one of the best videos from trying to find in the last 20 years. I wish you have more videos to teach strumming and change cords in easy way.
Thank you. Cheers! Shane

You're a fantastic teacher for us newbies! About 6 months into learning and now that I have my basic chords down really working on my strumming.
Keep at it Joe - thanks and my best to you 🇨🇦
