This what Comun in the summary of Adventures book 2 additionally commented on Beast's Lair: Both the novel and the movie for Future Gospel make allusions to Mitsuru's friend but never fully explain who the man was, so that was taken to the Q&A and given a full infodump. His name was Mizuhara Maayu (I guess? The kanji is 水原真鮎 but Nasu never gave us the reading). A wheel-chaired saint. He had leukemia, so when Mitsuru met him, he was in the last 6 months of his life. He thought the Garan no Dou was a neat building, so he bought the place. When Mitsuru had nowhere left to go, Mikiya introduced him to Maayu and they started living together in the Garan no Dou, with Mitsuru as Maayu's caregiver. He's not wheelchaired because of the leukemia though. His legs were damaged in one of the Meruka bombings. Maayu was the only one of Mitsuru's victims he personally met, so his presence made Mitsuru finally confront his crimes a good 10 years after he gained a normal life. Maayu later wrote A Vampire's Tear, a fairytale book based on Mitsuru. The book was successful, but the problem with that is that he published the book using Mitsuru's real name as his pen name. A lot about Mitsuru is reframed by this last part. One of his most curious character traits in Future Gospel is that he referred to his writer self as "he" instead of "I", and that's the reason why. Mitsuru was deep in debt because his books after Vampire's Tear weren't selling, but Mana decided to save him because she was Vampire's Tear fan, and yet she says to the face of the author she idolizes that his second work, Afterglow Cage, is a waste of paper. The main story only gives us Mana wondering if he's the kind of author who blows his entire load in his debut work, but with this extra tidbit about Maayu, Mitsuru's one-hit wonder status starts making a lot more sense. My additional info and deductions: The Möbius Link of Kara No Kyokai Future Gospel takes place 10 years (a little more) after the events of all the rest of Kara no Kyoukai. Since the last events are in 1999 the Möbius link part must be in 2009. That is about 2.5 years after the Adventures of Lord El Melloi II, which is 3 years after Fate Stay Night, so we currently are in 2007 in Adventures. That means this part in Adventures takes place before Mana met Mitsuru and just foreshadows her relationship to him. The author she admires at this point is unlikely to be Maayu, as far as I understand it A Vampire's Tear was not yet written by that point.

Last time I was so early, we had seen more Japanese Mages following Western principles than native Japanese (especially Shinto) traditions. Last time I was so early Touko still occupied that building. Last time I was so early we still thought Shiki might make a personal appearance here.

I think magic existed hand in hand with people's belief in Gods. It was easier to discover back when there was more mystery. A human with magic circuits was more likely to stumble upon their abilities before it became as secretive. In fact, keeping things a secret is mainly a method of preserving what little mystery still remains.
Rin isn't an otaku well I mean it makes sense as she is still traumatised after Ruby brainwashed her to become a magical girl of Fuyuki..... In Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Rin has a certain distain for anime too, but for different reasons. As a mage she is prideful and thinks anime presents magic in silly way which has nothing to do with complexity and glory of real magic. She dislikes cutesy image young girls like Illya have about magic.
