    It says a lot about our esteemed channel host, that he can demonstrate and explain the inner workings of a dual clutch gearbox repair one week, and the next be just as cheery and meticulous cleaning off old gasket material.

    Mitch is in good company, I ran out of fuel 100 meters further up the road in my 911 outside the Porsche dealer, before it changed to a Mini dealer. No rescue for me though, I had the walk of shame to Sainsbury’s to buy a petrol can and petrol!

    One man's compulsive dedication and engineering OCD is an excellent watch. After the build is complete do you wash down the outside of an engine before sending it back to the customer?

    Really great content, thoroughly enjoyed it... I do like Bad Obsession Motorsport (Binky), Subi-Performance (man is an artist with sealant!) and other similar channels, so maybe the issue is with me! To me, the journey (and the time it takes) is the interest - the idea of 10 minutes of (generally crap) body work, then "off to paint" (like Orange County Choppers) is the worst aspect of the modding/custom/performance genre...

    For making sure cylinder heads are flat I use a large Glass table sand paper and spray on glue To keep it in place You'll find low spots You didn't think were there.

    • @REPerformanceUK
      @REPerformanceUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’ve seen people do that. If they weren’t flat we would have had them skimmed but straight edge says 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @Pats-Garage
      @Pats-Garage ปีที่แล้ว

      @REPerformance UK I totally agree with using a straight edge But I ended up missing a low spot with one and blew head gasket on a newly rebuild motor 800 km from home. Limped back put it on the table After 2 or 3 times sliding it back-and-forth I could see it. There's a problem though You can't shoot for a specific( RA) finish On the head Maybe you have a machine shop near you that can. Anyways I love your videos and their super informative Keep up the great work 👍👍
      Also I realize what I'm talking about is Not proper practice at all 😂

      OMG I have been taking stick for years for doing this on an old a+ series maestro head 30 years ago when I was ‘learning’ - well teaching myself with an Argos tool kit a Haynes manual and a box full of hope and prayers! I convinced myself the engine was toast without a top end strip down and rebuild - but as I had no coolant leaks oil fouling or overheating, I decided the head was good and did the block side scotch brite clean and polished the head on the flip side of our GPlan glass coffee table and some super fine rubbing compound 😮
      Destroyed the table in the process but convinced myself this was as good as a skim 🙄🤪 Engine cracked up straight away and didn’t lose coolant or overheat ! But I did forget the manifold - downpipe gasket and it sounded like I left a socket in the rocker cover. What I did prob had no beneficial effects whatsoever and pure luck meant I didn’t destroy the head. But it served to show me I could just about handle basic home mechanic repairs.

    Ricky, when Tq’ing the head nuts you have a tq adapter fitted do you allow for the increased length of the adapter and adjust the tq accordingly?

    • @mrfishbulb7187
      @mrfishbulb7187 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was thinking the same. I'm guessing with the way those head nuts are hidden it must be a factory spec tool that has to be used with those torque settings.

    • @kevsimner
      @kevsimner ปีที่แล้ว
