Going Back To Rideshare - I Don’t Think So

  • Two subscribers asked why I left rideshare and when I plan to return. I have given returning to rideshare considerable thought and it is unwise for me to do so based on my experience and reality of the business - I will lose more than I want it to cost. The pain is much higher than the rewards, and the rewards are not worth the pain.

    I live in Los Angeles, California, speaking about the passion of life. Before experiencing a right-side posterior cerebral artery stroke on March 25, 2020, I drove full time for multiple rideshare platforms in Southern California between Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and San Diego.

    I possess an active California Guard Card.
    I began driving independently on April 3, 2016 at 3:53 AM as an UberX driver in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze LT. My last trip as a rideshare driver was March 25, 2020.

    Fun Fact About Me and Cars:
    I absolutely LOVE to drive. I have been driving ever since I was 16. I will always own a car and I will drive for as long as I am physically and mentally able to do so.

    Peterson...get a job. Like a regular job at like Walmart or Target cleaning the floors, checking receipts at the door, stocking the shelves at night if you physically can. It doesn't sound like you need serious money to live so get a regular dang job making min wage that doesn't require you to go into debt with some crazy car dreams. You don't need a new car! Just start small and work your way up slowly. You need stability, not these ideas that never go anywhere and lead you into a bad situation where someone is taking advantage of you while you struggle to survive. Apply to everything you can that is within a reasonable distance to where you are and get a job and show up ON TIME, EVERY TIME. That should be your one goal. This channel could be about watching you get it together rather than rehash terrible decisions and daydream about making more.
    You're always saying you can go back to Metro but you never do so we know you can't. You should have never left, no matter what happened to you because it sounds like they didn't like you and wanted to get rid of you but couldn't (probably because of the union) but then you did them a favor by walking away. It seem like you were dealing with emotional issues at the time but in the end, you only hurt yourself. And it seems like it's been downhill ever since. You have made many mistakes (you admit that) that have led you to now and you seem to like to fantasize about repeating them. Stop. Apply to jobs. Get one. Do your best to keep it. Save some money. Baby steps.
    edited to add: you have mentioned so many other channels that you want to start and you never do. Everything has to be perfect, the name has to be perfect, the videos have to be perfect, before you publish it. Stop talking about it and be about it. I've thought previously that you like to talk and you love cars. Why not sell cars at a dealership (long term goal...get any dang job right now!). You can talk about cars with folks and test drive them and convince people to buy shit they don't need like that guy did to you. lol. And bonus, you could maybe have access to cars to make videos about them for your channel. Start small, take steps, plan big.

    There are so many negatives with being a ride share driver, why would anyone allow themselves to be exploited by Uber or Lyft is insane

      he's in California and hard to find the good jobs in this space because the companies rip the independent contractors off and CA is not having it.

      The plan to get a vehicle for deliveries and occasional passenger trips fell apart. My goal now is to save $1,000 to reopen a secured Visa credit card account, possibly rent a Tesla for one week for rideshare then look into a work at home gig.

    I flip every good passenger to my private client. I’m nearly 50% driving for myself. My LLC is getting more profitable. I’m looking forward to getting rid of that pimp Uber.

      I am very happy that you found a way to make rideshare work for you. You are doing it the right way - flipping private customers. I failed at it. I had FANTASTIC private clients with the BMW. Those were wonderful days.

    i quit after 2 weeks of garbage pings. now training with metro $23+ hours

      You will earn more than $23 because there is a shortsge of operators, the runs have more than 40 hours a week, and there are times where you will be on your run longer than the schedule indicates. I was Mr. 100 because I always had more than 100 hours every pay period. I worked every minute of overtime offered. Were it not for my stroke, I would be there right now. There is sooooo much advice I can give you regarding being a Metro Bus Operator. I will make a video just for you.

      Your focus right now is to pass OCI and get to a division. I cannot stress how important it is that you pass your weekly tests, pass the pretrip every time. Focus on each step of the pretrip every day. The choices you make every day from now to graduation will determine if you accomplish the goal. I struggled with the pretrip until the final day. I knew it in my mind but speaking all the steps while executing them with a supervisor standing over me was a very difficult challenge, but I passed three times and was a great operator. I will always miss the job. You can do it. Be safe, be professional, be on time, be forgiving

      @@RideWithPeterson If they stop yelling at me I can. They keep on yelling at me.

    • @RideWithPeterson
      @RideWithPeterson  ปีที่แล้ว

      I want you to email me with your phone number so we can start speaking on the phone and AI can support you directly. Unfortunately somme do not know how to effectively train, all they know is anger and frustration. They yell at you because what you encounter from the riders will be worse. They are evaluating how you handle stress. It is book camp and I handled it well because I had drill sergeants who were tougher on me when I was in the Army. The goal of OCI is to wash out those who will be bad employees. They are training you to be trusted to operate a Rolls-Royce full of people who HATE you and be happy about it. Do not take the yelling personally. Let them yell at you and call you anything imaginable. It is part of the process because you NEED to develop a think, steel skin when dealing with the ugliness of being a public bus operator. You are interpreting the yelling as rejection. It is vital that you understand to fully command how you manage rejection. The supervisors, the company, the riders, the other drivers on the road, your coworkers, the bus, the aminals running in front of your bus - ALL of the hate you and bully you. You mush handle all of it with a smile on your face and in your soul because that is what you are paid to do. You are being paid to be bullied. If you want that job, you’re gonna have to be Neo and fight for Trinity. Every time they yell at you, say Good Morning or Good Afternoon or Good Evening. Calmly say that you will improve. The instructors are evaluating EVERYTHING about you the moment you walk in the classroom. They are looking for your weaknesses so they can make you strong. You are probable being yelled at because you are timid, so they are trying to get a sudden reaction out of you. They would rather it happen in the classroom than on a full bus at 65 mph in the express lane on the freeway during a lane change in rush hour traffic with the sun in your eyes and no a/c on a sumner day. The yelling is teaching you how to be at peace during a storm. Instead of telling you that, they want to evacuate how you handle and manage their rejection and hate. You do that well and you will understand why I feel the way I do about being a Metro Bus Operator. It was the most rewarding job I ever had.

    There are two ways to look at just the cost of the car.
    While $250.00 is a lot per week, it really depends on which market you are driving. If you are in an area with a low volume and a saturation of drivers, you are better off finding a traditional job. On the other hand, if you are in a metropolitan area with a lot of volume regardless of the driver saturation, you can easily cover that weekly rental cost in a day or less.
    As for renting versus owning, here is why the $250.00 is actually a wise investment. The amount of miles I personally drive with rideshare is 80,000+ miles per year. I will wipe out a warranty within the first year of financing a brand new car even with less than 10 miles at pick up. While I would effectively pay about $13,000.00 per year, and that is if I have it for all 52 weeks of a calendar year, I can simply swap out the car for another with lower mileage. Another benefit is that if the maintenance is covered by that rental fee, that eliminates a cost on my part.
    Another way to maximize your profits and minimize your driving is build a clientele that you can drive directly. Have a business license for driving. Have a credit card processor such as Square or PayPal Here for people who need receipts as well as accounts with transfer apps such as Cash App, PayPal, Venmo and Zelle to collect payments directly.
    Even if you live in a rural area, when you establish yourself as a reliable, prompt, and effective source of transportation, you can end up with more clients than you know what to do with. You can even partner with other drivers as colleagues to cover your clients.

    Many riders cancel when they see a prius. Not wise to get one for rideshare.

    • @RideWithPeterson
      @RideWithPeterson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is unfortunate for the drivers and the riders. The riders do not want to pay for a car, the gas or the driver and demand a Lexus. The hypocrisy of rideshare is amazing, from the name to the money and the process. Legalized Share cropping. The greatest ripoff humanity has ever experienced.
