  • 🍁It's Amur Maple day! (Acer Ginnala).
Vince and I head to the KW Bonsai Workshop taught by Ray.
Ray and Connor provide wisdom on pruning for trunk growth.
Back at the Nest, we prune and pot up my 'big' 5 year old Amur Maple for the first time.

Wow…way to bully around those Amurs! I love the aggressive approach. Sounds like Ray’s workshops are super valuable. Xin posted last year on how Ray cuts them off at the ground year after year to develop those awesome trunks. I would learn/hear/see more on this!
And then you made my morning going after the roots like that! Daggum that was killer, brother!
Sure do appreciate all your sharing, Jay!

I'm really surprised to hear and see your comments about no dieback on amur maples since my research into them has many people saying they do experience dieback, sometiems very unpredictably and considerably. I even saw one post on bonsai nut saying to leave as much as 6 inches for potential dieback! I haven't done much to my young amur so I can't speak to this myself. How is it faring now?
