Outgoing first minister of Wales Mark Drakeford looks back on dealing with the unexpected onslaught of crises that met him during his six year tenure. He tells Matt Chorley about being left “completely baffled” at Boris Johnson’s refusal to meet with him to handle the Covid pandemic together.

I am completely baffled as to why Mark was baffled that Johnson was a vain clown.
Drakeford obviously thought that Johnson's buffoonery was just part of an alter ego hiding an intelligent politician beneath. Unfortunately Drakeford was wrong on this occasion and Johnson really is just an empty-headed clown.
Meanwhile in Germany, the Federal Chancellor had regular conferences with the Minister-Presidents.
Writing from Carms, Mr Drakeford's home-county... he is a liar, a hypocrite & has proven himself utterly incompetent in both his public & private lives. Yet, & despite him always 'knowing best' & ignoring even his own 'consultations', everything he has done has harmed Wales; he is a total failure.
He is correct at the end there. The Uk is becoming increasingly fragmented. A union by force and not by choice. If Westminster wishes to maintain the union, they have a lot of selling to do. Highlight the benefits and show what Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will gain.
They gain a fortune, they are all tiny countries contributing little economically.

An interesting interview with a fundamentally decent individual who managed to survive the bearpit of modern British and Welsh politics. The remarks about dictators show a total ignorance of history.
Drakeford takes his order's from Von Der Liar and WEF. ?
He had delusions of adequacy - the Tories are useless, but Drakeford is no better. Very arrogant and has a very narrow view of the world born of being in the public sector all his life. His replacement is no better......

Matt is way too kind here. “There were no right answers” he says of the pandemic. Well, there were mate. We were actually very well prepared in the UK for a pandemic up until the 2010s because we knew one was well overdue, but the UK government got rid of the Pandemic Response Team that had drafted the plans and gathered all the expertise.
Complete bolloxs. The so called experts couldn’t agree on anything and are still arguing now. Get your memory tested.
