Super helpful video! This is a very common issue on the early gen xp900. Some red lock tite on that small idler pulley shaft goes a very long way. One way bearing failure seems to be a fairly common occurrence with these and I do believe it's 99% dude to the play that comes in them idler shafts over time. I also run a dab of red lock tite on the 3 one way bearing Allen bolts as those come loose really often aswell

I believe that bearing you replaced is a one way bearing, I guess it is not suppose to spin in both directions when assembled. I am having a similar issue and will replace mine in a few weeks to see if that solves the issue for me as well.
Your Video was informative, thank you.

Good find on that little gear that was loose. That’s a know problem on these machines. That gear loosens up fall out while engine is spinning and blows that side of the engine case out. It’s usually catastrophic failure. The fix is loctite and tighten back up.

Permatex Ultra Black if I remember correctly. It worked great.

Dumb question but did you have to drain the oil first or does that side case cover not have fluid?

Nice video Jeff. This exact issue just occurred to my RZR. What's your gut call on what fixed it? I was just about to order a new starter so very glad you made this video.

If the starter turns it’s good. For us it was the Starter Sprague Clutch. Even though it looked fine, it did not lock up so the starter would spin but not turn over the engine.

Where did you order your parts from?

I don't remember the exact source, I just searched online and went with the best price I could find.

@@BacktoCountry so probably from eBay or Amazon? Did you get a new gasket or reuse existing one?

Yep, after 30 years in the military, I don’t have a lot of use for hair, so I let it grow until I get tired of it. Then I cut it all off and start over 😂
