being dead is nothing (for one is no longer in existence), but death CERTAINLY IS. heidegger's notion of being-towards-death constitutes death mattering in a profound sense. if death were nothing to us there would be no fear of it!

@@dashdandelion3681 Ofc I'm aware of the distinction between death, dying and being dead. Dying, the process of dying, is what tends to concern most people, as it can happen instantaneously or in a prolonged and painful manner. Death, being the irreversible cessation of life, is that instant our body enters that state of being dead. Neither of which should concern us.

I sincerely appreciate the life and achievements of Leonardo da Vinci; he's easily one of my historical heroes.
If we look at his biography (at least the one by Walter Isaacson which is incredibly thorough and well researched), however, he completed very few of the projects he started.
I think what helped set Leonardo apart was his incredible interest in everything around him. He observed absolutely everything. He noticed how birds flare their wings and pitch up before they land (something we didn't think to do with planes until the end of the 20th century), he wondered how woodpeckers prevent brain damage (their tongues move in front of their brains and cushion the impact), he saw each moment as a fascinating drama (he was an avid theatre engineer). We all know him for his military engineering and anatomical drawings, but the magic of da Vinci to me wasn't the output -- most of it didn't quite work or wasn't quite finished -- but the voracity with which he approached life. He saw the magic in the mundane and we can too; the world is a beautiful place if we look hard enough.
From the late, great Richard Feynman,
"Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough"
    Da Vinci knew.

Creativity is seeing what no one sees. Thus each of us is creative. You and I may enjoy the same song but each of our enjoyment is unique to each of us alone. Understanding that you are isolated from everyone else in this way makes it easier to recognize how you are creative, and how often you incorrectly conclude that you are not creative.

What Da Vinci said about “well-filled day brings blessed sleep” made me ponder a lot and brought some things into perspective and changed the way that I saw things. I don’t dread about the day coming to an end but i dread about life that will end not because of the unknown but because once I die, I won’t wake up again. But I realized that that is more of the reason why I should live a “well-deployed” life because I might not get anymore chances but just dreading about not having anymore chances will automatically bring a “well-deployed life” but rather the opposite will happen. So I started doing what I can do make the day well, and now I am able to fall asleep early at night because I am so tired by end of the night, and I stopped waking up in the middle of the night or waking up feeling tired because I feel restless on bed and didn’t get enough sleep. (Beautiful animation btw!)

I stopped being creative almost completely during my teens. After about eight years, I started drawing and painting, writing and singing again because I met new people who both inspired me, but most importantly taught me that is wasnt too late. Already as a teenager I fell into the illusion that it was too late to learn creative skills, and that it was impossible to make a living from art. Art therapy really helped open up the flow, bc I wasnt making anything for somebody else and I worked through crippling inner judgement, but still today I need to remind myself that I am making stuff for fun, not to please anybody. Creativity feels good.

The artist can take formless media and arrange them in a way which communicates something beyond the physical. IMO it’s the closest thing we have to alchemy today.

Take a moment to sit back, think to yourself with patience, and ask yourself honestly what is truly important for you in life. What do you want to achieve, want to know, want to experience, want to change. And then, once you have your answer, don't be lazy or procastinate, since this is the only life you have, but work towards it. I recommend listening to stoicism lectures on marcus aurelius

I would love to read online books but I just can't get into sitting and focusing on the material in front of a blue screen for hours (usually get a headache and disoriented after staring at a screen for that much) to read through these books sadly :/

I like this channel not because of the philosophy, but because AOI gives every major thinker and thought a bit of a revision to speak primarily to disinherited anxious weirdos trying to not be anxious weirdos. I don't think any amount of small measured steps or variously-sized pile of great quotes will fix the thing we're all here trying to find out how to fix. For me, I kind of put a lot of hope into one of those total personality transformations that come to some people. I've seen it in AA/NA meetings a few times, and each time I witness it it is so totally and completely awe-inspiring. You can tell that they just switched on, like they found a breaker some place in their soul that had blown and so they just flip it back on and the electricity animates them as it should in a "normal" person.
Do you guys know of anyone else who speaks to this sort of total transformation? I know of Eckhart Tolle but I feel like he's newage hogwash on the whole so if anyone can point me to a resource for this thing, I'd sincerely appreciate it.
