I was a little girl going on a road trip with my family. My mom had this story on a 4-cassette- tape set. It made me and my brother sit spellbound for hours! She loved the story and loved the fact that it kept us kids from bickering down the highway.
One of the best books l have ever read. Everything Frank Peretti writes is meaningful, it teaches you so much. I am not religious but his books are not just for believers, they are a gift to all of us, to better understand ourselves and where we go wrong. I do belive that there is a moral sense, shaped in our brains by evolution, and in a society like the one we are living in all of this is forgotten. There is no morality anymore, everyone can do how and what they please. This is perfectly represented by the chaotic scenes of the night of the purge in the book. The way to vanquish the dragon is accepting that there is one in the first place and we cannot defeat it by pretending that everything we do has no consequences at all. What we want is not always the best for us and we could avoid faux pas if we remembered that some rules are there for a reason and we shouldn't disobey them. Moral rules are pivotal for a righteous existence. Leaving them behind makes for disaster.
My husband bought me this book back in 1996 and I still have it. He knew I loved Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. So glad to be listening to this!!
I love all peretti Books, I remember reading this one years ago and it was great, 'the darkness series are the best but also loved 'prophet', the visitation and the cooper kids series books. What was the more recent one about the magician and his wife- that is amazing too. He just gets better :]

Out of curiosity, where did you find a version read by Peretti himself? The version I had years ago was read by Joseph Campanella and the one currently on Audible is read by Tom Taylorson.
I purchased them when it first came out and listened when my kids were very young. They loved it so I uploaded it here so they could listen. I never expected a following or subscribers.

I disagree. Sorry, Frank. You are a MUCH better writer than narrator. The narrators of the "darkness" books were terrific!

I remember finding this in my dad’s bookshelf. I read it at least 3 separate times, and bought myself my own copy.
Movie, movie, movie Make a movie.
If it could be done right. The movie made from Visitation was just awful. I'm afraid it may come off as too much of a Predator clone.
I think the key would be to leave the predator unseen for most of the movie. That, and make it very period correct for the late 70’s - early nineties.
