I just made one using the wire from a large whisk I found for 25 cents at a garage sale. I used small hobby brass tubing for the shaft. Wrapped the shaft and arms in small copper wire and secured with CA glue. Works like a charm. About $1 to make it. Thanks again for the idea.
hey if any body needs a hair stacker your can take a pipe cutter or saw and cut the neck of a .308 bullet casing then chop the neck and the bottom of a .223 or 5.56 and put it inside the .308 and put tape at the top of the 223 where u want it to stop.
For the people who don't have the materials I substituted them with big paper clips, a plastic tube lollipop stick, some decoration wire and glue, works all the same
Really nice. This thing is awesome I am trying it tommorow ! Though I have way different threads so I have to modify it. But the idea is awesome. Thanks again.
Hey man, AWESOME! My girlfriends dad gave me an old fly tying kit and when i opened it up i noticed no bobbin:( this was the first vireo i watched and 10 mins later i have a sweet bobbin! and it was free! i used two of my girlfriend massive bobby pins and the fine spray attachment off a WD40 can lol. Thanks so much for such a sweet and easy idea!
the thread came free from my sister, the beads i found in draw, the q-tip or ear bud came out of the bathroom, the glue i paid £2.00 i don't know how many drops are in the tube so lets say i used £0.05, the spinner wire cost £0.25. It is still working a year on but i am think of making some improvements. Cheers
Bobbins have jumped up to almost $30 apiece here in the states. I'm going to try your method. I think I'll use a little heavier steel stock and some tiny brass tubing with a plastic seed bead CA glued on one end to keep the brass tubing from cutting my thread. Thanks for posting.
Excellent video. Very informative demo...just what I was looking for. I plan to make one of these and tie my own crappie jigs. I seen these go for $25. or more, crazy expensive!
Thank you very much for sharing this. I'm restoring a vintage split cane rod and need to replace some of the corroded guides. I was thinking of buying one of these but won't be now.
Metal. The light touch of fine grit sanding paper reduces of risk of sharp edges cutting tying thread. After you remove the ball point head, wild sharp edge appears.
Your righ,t i am cheap. But I find it more interesting that i have lost the urge to buy solutions. Last night i made a spinner blade and as I was cutting out the metal with snips I remembered watching a video of a machine that stamps out thousand of these blades per hour. What ever I make there will probably be a machine that can do it faster and maybe better, i fear the invention of the fully functioning sex robot. So i will keep my $1.69 and my bobbin holders, but thanks for the kind offer.
cool! But what when you have to apply a lot of tension to the thread? Like when you're tying down deer hair etc, won't the soft tube from the q-tip bend alot?
Dear Paul, your videos are amazing, I it watch one and ano and one time, tks for teach us very much things, please were i can find the tempaltes for making the whip finishing tool, please, a big hug from Ecuador
dont cut it, just bend the wire in half, then bend the point down so the tube sits flush, will make the whole deal stronger, if you get brass pipe you can solder also, you can also bend ears in instead of beads in a pinch...good vid though
yes your right, this was my second attempt i figured that out after making a few, i used brass pipe from the model shop and line it with ear bud tube and melt the ends so they roll up into a lip , i did go so far as putting a drag on one with a spring and washer , but I don't use them that often these days, i do not do well messing with fluff, thanks
she does know that non of her girl stuff is now safe, ear bubs, wooden hair brush handles, even bras have wire in them, why do you think they call them fish net stockings cause you go fishing with them........... good luck with fishing and your girlfriend , my wife says "tell his girlfriend only to leave crap stuff lying round, and hide all the good stuff, also buy some cheap nail varnish for when he runs out" i do not know what she is talking about Thanks for commenting, good luck
Sorry i live just about on the other side of the world, i would suggest asking on a lure making Forum like Tackleungerground or on facebook groups like wooden lure making
Altex lan with the money he saved on making his own bobbins he could buy more material or other things with the extra 5-10$. It's not called being poor, it's being frugal.

Thats done it, watching such clear detail is great, now to the shed and do some thing worth while and not just bird boxes. Great blog.

You have some great ideas Paul. Well done!
Great video! I made my bobbin holder in a similar way but for the stem I used an old hollow knitting needle I had laying around. Works like a charm!

Great temp bobbin. I dont know about long term, if you were to use it long term I would replace the Q tip thing with something more durable.
HEy, i made few of bobbins out of these chemical pencil cartridges :D :D :D It works like a charm :D
are they metal of plastic?
I use ball pen ink tube (either brass or plastic) Works great.

Congratulations to Brazil.

I used 1mm spinner wire
What did you use for the straw/hollow tube
Nothing like a good spoonerism
Dear Paul, your videos are amazing, I it watch one and ano and one time, tks for teach us very much things, please were i can find the tempaltes for making the whip finishing tool, please, a big hug from Ecuador
+Gustavo Moreno send an email to paulpadam@aol.com and i will send it to you
thanks
I buy them from welding supplyer 14 gage or 12 gage stainless ...12 gage too heavy to bend
dont cut it, just bend the wire in half, then bend the point down so the tube sits flush, will make the whole deal stronger, if you get brass pipe you can solder also, you can also bend ears in instead of beads in a pinch...good vid though

ok thanks
You can straighten out a paperclip
Hey Thor, can u send me one, thanks,I'd like to see that.
Yes and for $1.69 I can mail you a new one made in the U.S ..
It takes a bobbin holder to make a bobbin holder. Hmmm
if you so poor to make a bobbin holder, don't enter fly fishing cos the material are expensive.
Altex lan with the money he saved on making his own bobbins he could buy more material or other things with the extra 5-10$. It's not called being poor, it's being frugal.
