    *This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*

    Love what you did to the Canoe! If you want some history on the hull it is a original Golden Hawk Canoe. It is a tumblehome hull designed back in 1968. Great Job on customizing it!

    That Golden Hawk canoe really is an excellent design for so many reasons. We brought ours out in a storm on Lake Michigan this week to test the stability. With three foot waves and strong wind, the canoe was so stable we weren't nervous at all. Even in high wind and waves, we could paddle tight circles both tacking into the wind and jibing in the opposite direction with excellent stability and without taking on any water.
    The Golden Hawk is not a very fast canoe by any means, but I use my canoe for everything EXCEPT racing so it is perfect for my needs.
    I like that it will turn on a dime with paddles even in high wind.
    We use paddles instead of a motor. It looks like the motor batteries are really crowding your space.
    I sure like the seats you use and am going to look into those as an addition to my Golden Hawk.

    Awesome thanks for the info. Glad to see you are making this again. You wouldn't believe how many people ask about this canoe when we have it out. I will now refer everyone to Golden Hawk.

    Holy crap! You are not Fing around, nice rig and I am jealous of your motor. Excellent work on this video - I especially liked how you pointed out the transom difference on your canoe. Great video!

    I just bought a coleman scanoe last year. It is like yours with the transom being square for a motor yet still reversible to cut through the water. Im in the process of riggn mine up now, I just installed the fishfinder, rod holders and seats like yours are goin in tomorrow , and Im thinking of rhino lining the floor to make it a lil quieter and look good too.

    Awesome. Yeah one of my plastic seats after storage completely came off on one side. Noticed that the screws holding it on were extremely loose. Guess I'll have to try something like that.

    That canoe should be featured on T.V. and or a top fishing/outdoor magazine. Needs a catchy name, like "The Walrus" canoe or something to distinguish it's sturdy yet slightly homely look.
    I'm not an "Ad-Man", but if I were, that's how I'd market it.

  • @BSRadar100
    @BSRadar100  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @GunznGear - When I first started looking at canoes I wanted a square stern and was looking really hard at the Old Town one. Just so happened I was in a bait shop locally and they had the model I currently own. I was intrigued by the design and again having the stern above the water line sold me on it. As far as the 24 volt system. You would think it would last twice as long as a 12 volt but it doesn't. It runs much longer than that. I use to get 3 hours out of my 55lb thrust 12 volt at most.

  • @mygyro
    @mygyro 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video; very helpful. I see below that the seats are available at Walmart. Do you know the seat name/model (so I'll know I get the same kind)? I'm looking to buy a Golden Hawk like yours. Thanks!

  • @runeski74
    @runeski74 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    well I installed regular folding back swivel seats from cabellas. You know the kind for bass boats? Its a pain to mount to the flimsy plastic molded seats that come with the canoe. So I cut off the out dented part and riveted a sheet of 1/2 in thick plastic board to the scanoe seat, then allowing me to screw the seat bracket to that! alot of work but man was it worth it, a swivel and a backrest keeps you out alot longer

    I set up my canoe to bow mount,with two guys it runs nice and straight
    one person it tends to sway the bsck end
    Good thing about it you can steer and fish up FRONT

  • @DaveLife1

    Where did you get the swivel seat and how did you attach them? Thanks

  • @BSRadar100
    @BSRadar100  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @GunznGear - With the 24 volt I can run it nearly all day depending on if I'm in alot of weeds and I have fresh batteries. The batteries are the key as you probably already know. With a 24 volt system you want to make sure both batteries are the same and receive the same amount of charging. I have 2 of the exact same chargers so there is no fluctuation. All in all it is well worth it and I'm glad I made the switch.

    sweet intro!

  • @BSRadar100
    @BSRadar100  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @blackopnoobs101 -When I first got the canoe I just had a 12 volt setup - one battery and a 55lbs thrust Minn Kota. Problem was that with just a one battery set up you drain the battery within a hour or two. I also found it more difficult to control the canoe if I was fighting any sort of wind. A 24 volt system with a more powerful motor allows me to stay on the water much longer. I also have more juice to get me back to the truck in the event of a storm or emergency.

    @BSRadar100  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL - I like the name "The Walrus" - think I might start calling it that. It's a good little set up and I'm fortunate to have it. Funny thing is that when we get back to the boat ramp and ask guys in $30,000.00 bass boats how they did - it always seems like we do much better.

    hi Pike Monger... super video.. Loved the setting . I just wanted to know what motor are you using . I am planning got bu the 80lbs minn kotta riptide transom motor. it is a 24 v motor. So my question to you is if i buy 2 battery power center from Minkotta and put 1 12 volt battery in each power center. can i connect both the power centers and then 1 wire from each power centre positive and negative to the motor ? Do i need an extra circuit breaker ? I believe the power center has circuit breaker in it .. Kindly advice me .

    @BREAMIX - I use a Yakima Canoe Rack mounted on my truck that has a cap on it. I also have the Yakima extender pole that allows me to load and unload by myself. Unfortunately I don't see that accessory on their website anymore.

    The back rest is NICE,I use a little fold out seat from the truck,its a small third seat behind
    the passenger seat of an s-10 pick up
    also got a little Elementary school chair dat works out,
    You can also remove the plastic back rest to a steal chair and use it
    I put up a video of my 17 canoe pleas stop by check it out..its got two trolling motors on it LOL

    Now that's a sweet setup!! I've attempted to create something similar w/ my Old Town Tripper canoe. I added removable stablizers, an removeable transom and very similar seats. I also carry two batteries, but my motor is 12volt. My canoe is designed for white water and I still enjoy that. I also use it for camping trips, but when I add the "fishing package" it's handy to fish some lakes and rivers I otherwise couldn't. So, does the 24volt system last longer than the 12volt w/ 2 batteries?

    Where did you buy the swivel seat at and how did you mount it in the boat? The new 2012 scanoe I bought has the big bulky plastic seats. I was wanting to replace them with a swivel seat like in this video. Any help would be appreciated how it's bolted in, etc. Thanks.

    Hi! I am customizing my new fishing canoe right now and preparing it for new fishing season. I have 12V 55lb Minn kota endura and because of short battery life maybe I will buy a small gas motor as well, I find a 2,3HP honda which I think will be ok. Just want to ask how do you transport your canoe - on the top of your car? What technique do you use for that? I mean if you are alone. DO you have any special utilities for that? For example roof rack extenders etc. Thank you.

    @Branina, I bought the seat from Cabela's as well as the bracket and swivel. Seat was $40, bracket was $17, and the swivel was $10. To install the seat was kinda a pain. I cut the oval ( Molded raised secdtion in the seat ) out flush with the rest of the seat. Then I riveted a chunk of cutting board to the top and was able to screw all my bracketry to the cutting board plastic. Imma make a video to show everyone how I made it work. Its so comfortable now!!

    The scanoe is awesome. I was looking at one of those before I bought this one. What motor do you use? The rhino would be a good idea but will add some weight - might not be a factor depending on how you load and unload.

    Those lead acid batteries are very heavy. A single 24 volt lithium battery would lighten your canoe some.
