Just found this video because I wanted to get into making music and this one of the videos that popped up the quality is amazing for how little view you got and I think If you keep grinding you'll be great man! Keep up the good work and thanks for helping me get into music making!
Excellent presentation, thank you. And yes, you CAN record and master through headphones. I've been recording since 1961, I've met a few people who actually know what they're doing and have the ability to explain it to others. You are one of those people. Instant tip from an old timer --- run your 'master' through the nastiest speakers you can find, like 3 dollar intercom speakers. If your mix sounds good through those AND your studio monitors, you're golden. Most top pros do that, few will actually ADMIT it. Thanks again, Bill P.
I love how you encourage everyone who wants to get into music, to do so! But I also love how honest and realistic you are! It is a path that requires work and dedication, not just daydreaming and hoping for success. But that doesn't mean you can't be hopeful for your dreams and goals! Thank you for the video! ^^
also to anyone who was struggling on the same thing i was (recognizing notes and keys so that you could actually replicate songs for remixes or put the melodies you have in your head into an actual song), you should try making some remixes of songs with a lot of midi files around and practicing the notes, it was and still is the greatest obstacle in getting into this hobby for me.
I started getting serious about making music in 2020. And I could confidently say that I learned how to make my own music while still having much to learn. I saw this video to find things that are not true about the learning process and try to clarify some misunderstandings and stuff. But this is pretty much how everything happened for me, except for a few things. I only own FL Studio Trial version, I don't have studio monitors, I don't know anything about music theory, and I don't have any midi controllers. I've been using FL Studio trial version for about 3 years, and I can say that pretty much know my way around a few things. But everything about the learning process, struggles, and issues are very accurate. For any aspiring producers out there, this video is highly recommended to get started.

Hey Robert, So glad I could bring you some motivation! I have been working on a lot of things with SoundConstraints over the last year but I'm happy to say that weekly video content will be starting this week(:

I want to say thank you as a beginner in music! Not only the very helpful and thoroughly explained info, but also the very subtle things like listing everything by price for us. You’re a G
Ok music theory is a tool you can use but it's not all about music theory it's about how passionate you are to create. I've created so much sitting down with a guitar when I had no idea what I was doing, when I finally learned a lot of theory out of curiosity some of the new things I made didn't sound as genuine, it might sound more intricate, but the more you treat music as an art rather than a science it becomes amazing.
I'm late to the party, but this video helped me make some decisions. I was so talented with music in high school, and college. Eight years later I'm trying to refresh my brain on everything I knew, and learn how to produce EDM music with that knowledge. It's something I've always been passionate about. Thanks for the tips, and let's hope this journey paves out well.
Just wanted to say thank you for making this guide. Easy to follow and straight to the point! I've always wanted to make my own music, and this helps a lot.
Honestly, this video may seem barebones, but it is more than really accurate. I'm working with fl studio since 2017 and still don't have that tick to make stuff that is... well... decent to listen to and make you come back to it. Thing is, what is already said in this video is honestly how it goes, and if you get a midi controller/piano alongside a pair of studio headphones (or speakers/monitors) will definitively help in sound design and mixing department. First year, maybe even 3, you will have to spend time learning and overcoming the feeling of being stuck a bit. Keep your hopes up and it becomes cakewalk. Once over that initial procedure, once you get comfortable in using your DAW of choice and your equipment (both hardware and software like vst-s), next thing is easing your way to more music theory related stuff and playing around with them (having a midi keyboard most definitively will help, especially the ones with more keys). This is if you decide to actually get seriously serious and are willing to go forth. I don't want to sound condescending, but this is my experience, and it most likely won't be a trouble for everyone. At first most definitively you will suck, but give it time, listen to music moderately and try to pick up how the different sounds are, watch music production videos that are plentiful here in youtube to begin with, and you will prosper. What I can't say is having followers, since I don't post my stuff anywhere (sorry for this, but right now I don't want to do that, mostly for my ears right now) but I do believe having feedback will most definitively help in improving. Personally speaking, I don't have a lot of time to spend on a track, so I often am just left with an idea that gets abandoned in my hundreds of other ideas, or spend too much time patching a synth that literally end up with only a 4 bar simple "melody" (that i don't know if it even counts as one). Oh, I almost forgot - If you are a beginner that has no experience in music production, and as much as I don't want to say this, DON'T BEGIN TO TRY DUBSTEP or related genres like melodic dubstep, complextro, brostep, deathstep, etc. mainly because you will hate yourself and will have a brain hemorrhage once you do try. I know many probably won't because not many are into this genre, but I almost left for good. If you are insisting, I insist to do something simpler first then go for this stuff, if you want a bit of a challenge go for something like synthwave (if you are into this genre) since it is way more enjoyable to produce and you don't have to pull your hair out because you don't understand how things work. Seriously though, don't try to fly when you can't drive, it will hurt you. I would assume many would go for trap, since it is all the rage nowadays, and I don't think it is super hard, but can't say because (warning: personal opinion) I don't like it, so I don't go for it. But I've seen plenty of artist posting production videos, so you probably may get quicker results in your journey with this genre. I apologize for this long comment, but I do hope people at least try, It isn't impossible but give it time. I also found out about modular synths 3 years ago, and personally having a tidbit small background in electronics, that is extremely fun stuff, but a bit expensive. For those that do know their way around electronics (but absolutely not limited to), try vcv rack software if you don't know, it's free, and epic. Thanks for reading my ted talk
Some say that M40x is better than M50x. As for more headphones, good ones to recommend are Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Sennheiser HD280 Pro and Sony MDR-7506 A midi controller isn't mandatory if a person isn't comfortable with keyboards (although it's better to learn how to play and creativity reaches one easier than just computer keyboard and piano roll in DAW) A great video though!
I believe you said DAW 12 times in this video not counting you saying digital audio workstation fully. Thanks for making this video! I’ve been wanting to make my own music for years and this video sums up what I’ll need very well. Cheers!
All youtubers asking for a like, but when you're so straight to the point like that I don't hesitate, good work ! Also never heard you have a Kendall Roy vibe the way you speak ? Take care

This was the best video ever to help a beginner. I have been trying to start producing my own music for 2 years now and have been so discouraged by uniforming videos, but this broke it down so easily. I loved the reality you said of "this first songs you make are going to suck. They're going to be garbage." Haha I laughed bc you're so right! And that's ok. Loved everything about this video. Thanks for the encouragement, suggestions, and inspiration. Im off to start producing!
For those who wanna go full analog, it's still recommended you start on a daw. Chances are, you don't have $100,000-$1,000,000 to drop on a studio as a beginner.
@@socialrejectxxxkami9965 Not to mention Daws do everything an analog studio can but better. The only advantage analog has is that it looks cool and has slightly better workflow
Appreciate that Tony! Thank you. TH-cam studio glitched and cut my video off at the end hahah. I have some recent beginner music producer videos you can check out! I’m uploading weekly again (:
Thanks for making this video! Your inspiring message about getting started was just what I needed to get my music-producing day started. :) Great information, and thank you for the recommendations!
DAW was mentioned 11 times after you said to tell you how many times! Thank you for all this info, it was perfect for extremely newbie to understand and not feel overwhelmed at all!

I hv been writing my own music for years I don't produce yet but I write like alot of songs and I thought I could produce music myself instead of hiring people do it for me. Who doesn't like to be independent, this video helped very much into what I need. Lol I have done sum drumpad mobile apps and heard sum stuff bit I wanna be serious with my music cause my lyrics r really good and I think I could go far... thank u for this video
Thanks a bunch my friend! Exactly what I needed! I'm a writer/poet by nature, but have come across hip-house music with the tone to match my content and wanted to create something in that arena. I doubt there'll be any success here for a while, but I'm chasing that euphoria of completing a song that I'm truly happy with. Following your advice to start with! Thanks again!
I have had my studio tore down for 8 years while working more on live instrumentation skills and singing. Finally pulling the trigger on setting back up and modernizing everything and this video was helpful! I’ve always used cubase and nuendo from school to interning in pro studio to home use so probably staying that route. Have you used them and are the still relevant? Id add an audio interface for anyone working on live instruments or vocals too!
So glad your video came up in my search. I’ve watched others, but you’ve done a great job at saying everything needed simple to the point. I got tired of watching other videos because there’s so much unnecessary rambling. Thank you for not doing that lol. You just made me want to continue learning how to produce my music even more.
Aye thank you for the kind words. Stoked I could help you. Hopefully my other beginner video can also help you out - th-cam.com/video/TvYxLNhacmo/w-d-xo.html
Could you make a video breaking down some DAWs (i.e: their components and what makes them unique)? I'd like to see a comparison video, so I know in a little more detail what I'm getting when I download one.
Fl studio has an attractive interface and I think it’s the easiest for beginners, I had ableton for a few weeks and I did more and understood more with Fl in one day than those few weeks in ableton!
I've beena musician my entire life but always used a tascam 4track recorder. had no idea about DAWs or how to use a PC with my music making. Thanks for the jumping off points. Trying to record everything live yourself with a 4 track is very difficult

Dude I’ve don’t the first 15 mins in Ableton but I don’t know what to do next? pls anyone help. Any tutorial suggestions or any ideas of what to do next would be great
You are one of the most “straight to the point” producers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen quite a lot. Keep up the great work. Much love and respect from Iran. 🤍
dude, you said 15 times the word DAW & Digital Audio Work station Where is my Prize? really liked the video man. When I saw the minimum spec for the PC I got a kidney Attack like, I use Core2Duo with 4GB DDR2 RAM & I got Ableton lite key borrowed from my friend & I am good with what I have. & I got an earphone to monitor. I'm even eligible to call my self as a producer?
its kinda interesting, i am trying to start producing music for years but there are a lot of things keeping me away from that "start" u know, gaming, being lazy, work and and and.... but after your video i feel like i am already a part of it. I was writing some songtexts just for fun but u made the point of my being lazy here I think, now i am going to look for ableton or FL Studio. #justdoit
id say ableton is the best daw. alot of my fav edm producers and djs always mention ableton at some point if they are podcasting or talking about music in general, id say ableton is like the Pioneer DJ of daw software, its kind of the unspoken industry strandard imo
Hey man thank you for the video, this is really helpful. Good vibes, thanks again and I hope all is well on your end. Cheers! EDIT: You know I have one question, which is, what's the difference between a MIDI controller like the ones you talked about and a DJ controller like the Pioneer DJ DDJ200? I am looking to just get started, completely new -- I'm not sure what I want but I know I want to have the option to mix music live, and also make my own music. Should I consider getting both an AKAI mini and a dj controller? What's the difference? Thank you again for your hard work on this vid
Hey man!! I am a singer-songwriter and i wanted to get into making music but did not have the clarity and honestly was a little overwhelmed as well...plus i have tried to start learning music production in the past too but just didn't start(still kicking myself for that) so, that plays a part as well..but i must tell you that i am glad that i found your video here now...have started and this time it seems a little different and clear plus nothing is a better motivator than knowing that this will enable you to release your music in the future. So thank you very much and keep making such videos.
This industry is so flooded with men, no hate because I am a huge fan of many of them and their music. I'm currently majoring in digital media art and so I have to learn various programs for it. I've been a performer all my life as well and sing. Taught myself the basics on the ukulele, got piano lessons when I was younger. I've always wanted to explore a little in music, EDM specifically, but its a bit discouraging that there are barely any women to look up to in the space. I personally feel like I have great taste in EDM and could get the hang of creating stuff.
There was an interesting interview with Diplo where he said he wishes there were more female artists and wants to sign some/ is always on the look out for new acts but there are hardly any women interested in producing EDM/trying to get signed (his words) So yes the space is mostly men.. but the majority of people even interested in producing EDM seem to be men haha. REZZ, Alison wonderland, whipped cream, Lucy, and Cray (just to name a few) are all very talented female producers that aspiring artists can look up too
@@SoundConstraints Yeah I don’t deny that, I think it’s the technological aspect and how anything to do with that was just completely dominated by men since the beginning lol🙌🏻. I didn’t know Diplo was looking for that and that’s awesome he is. And yea I also love Alison Wonderland! Its a small start but it’s a start! Maybe on my break between semesters I’ll play around with GarageBand or something and see where it goes haha
When you said that when you start a new hobby you like to get the best gear and stuff you can from the jump I knew I found the right video. I do the same thing. If I can afford it why get cheap stuff.
Very straightforward, now I have an idea on where to begin. But the video ends in the middle of a sentence, kind of ironic when before was saying how he strives for great quality in the videos. Murphys law. Anyways, thanks, found it really helpful and saved it for rewatches
Very well done video with concise details and no rambling. It is obvious that this information was well organized and planned with properly placed objectives. Thank you!

Just wanted to say thank you for making this guide. Easy to follow and straight to the point! I've always wanted to make my own music, and this helps a lot.
Glad I could help! What kind of music are you wanting to make?
Amazing content brother, just what beginners like me are looking for. Loved your realistic & down to earth approach. Thank you.
I appreciate that man! glad it helped(:

I love how you wasted 0-time rambling and went straight to all the essential points. Beneficial video!! Thank you so much!
Glad I could help! Check out part two (: - tinyurl.com/8p7ju3ef
Some say that M40x is better than M50x.
As for more headphones, good ones to recommend are Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Sennheiser HD280 Pro and Sony MDR-7506
A midi controller isn't mandatory if a person isn't comfortable with keyboards (although it's better to learn how to play and creativity reaches one easier than just computer keyboard and piano roll in DAW)
A great video though!
My software of choice is FL Studio, which I understand well enough. Now I just gotta make the music happen, lol.
its the best for me
I believe you said DAW 12 times in this video not counting you saying digital audio workstation fully. Thanks for making this video! I’ve been wanting to make my own music for years and this video sums up what I’ll need very well. Cheers!
Do you have any videos on how to use MIDI tools????
I just discovered your channel, feels like you could help a beginner like me, great work man! APPRECIATED!!!
This video was quick, extremely informative, and well done. Thanks dude!
Thanks for the love man! much appreciated. New videos coming very soon(:
All youtubers asking for a like, but when you're so straight to the point like that I don't hesitate, good work !
Also never heard you have a Kendall Roy vibe the way you speak ? Take care
You're the first one to say that I speak like that, that's amazing hahaha.
I have to say thank you man I love this video. You literately simplified the whole process of getting into music production In a beginner friendly way. I was lost until I found this video so thanks man, Sending you lot's of love
My pleasure bro!
I appreciate your support 🖤
legit one of the few videos where I'm not confused. very well explained!!
Really enjoyed this video bro.. I'm just beginning to get into this whole thing with my own podcast but the music production side has always been something I wanted to do bigtime. It's great to see guys like u on here offering something back to the community so Big up to u man and keep up the great work.
Hey man, thanks a lot for brightening my day with this. Glad you enjoyed the video(:
@@SoundConstraints Ah no worries my friend.. Take care and keep those videos coming bro.. Peace.. 🙏

love always seeing my headphones the audiotechnicas being used by so many creators really confirms that it's that good! hopefully i can really start to create I've always wanted to make music and online content
This is genuine quality content, TH-cam take note!
Yeah , Then when you start making money and get hardware you’ll know the basics and you’ll have the funs to get the best for your need.
@@socialrejectxxxkami9965 Not to mention Daws do everything an analog studio can but better. The only advantage analog has is that it looks cool and has slightly better workflow
Thank you this was exactly what i needed
Such an amazing video!!! Idk why it seems like it gets cut unfinished at the end :( I’d really love to see more of your content!!! You’re great bro!!!
Appreciate that Tony! Thank you.
TH-cam studio glitched and cut my video off at the end hahah. I have some recent beginner music producer videos you can check out!
I’m uploading weekly again (:
WOO! That MIDI Pack at the end inspired me! Now, I gotta get un-broke then I'll be good.
price in America: seems affordable
price in Philippines: this wants me to be in debt
Giving the people what they want with style bro, great video!
appreciate you bro!
Thanks for making this video! Your inspiring message about getting started was just what I needed to get my music-producing day started. :) Great information, and thank you for the recommendations!
Hell ya! Glad I could help. I always love listening to a little motivational content before a long day of grinding haha.
"FL studio is like the apple product of DAW's"
logic pro has left the chat
hahah great catch.
DAW was mentioned 11 times after you said to tell you how many times!
Thank you for all this info, it was perfect for extremely newbie to understand and not feel overwhelmed at all!
I am 14 and love music. I have been playing guitar since I was like 8 and have been piano for a little over a year. Just purchased a laptop. This video helped me to choose what other gear to buy!
damn, I wish I started at your age!
stick with it man, it's worth it.
Aye im stoked I could help you!

i really thought i was the only one
@@spljt You're not, I get it too 😫
Thanks a bunch my friend!
Just my recommendation it still has its cons but I love the workflow
Sure can man
I've beena musician my entire life but always used a tascam 4track recorder. had no idea about DAWs or how to use a PC with my music making. Thanks for the jumping off points. Trying to record everything live yourself with a 4 track is very difficult
6:59 Says, "Here are 3 industry standard studio headphones..." 🎧
Proceeds to name 2 headphones. 🤔
Conclusion: Math is useful in music, but not crucial. 😉
All kidding aside, good video
Hahaha good catch ;) I decided to cut the third one in post!
Sound Constraints Sony MDR 7506?
tysm, I've always wanted to try music production and this was really helpful. Im 14 right now but my dream for a while is to be a DJ, wish me luck on this journey
Video abruptly ends. Am I the only who is getting it?
youtube glitched!
Definitely ends abrupt without finishing.
Nah
Not the only channel affected. 😞 Anyone who watches dudeperfect might notice this with their past videos
Nah same
Very helpful video. I will be coming back to refrence this a lot. Thanks
Glad I could help! My follow up beginner video helps with more of the hands on stuff. You can check it out here - th-cam.com/video/TvYxLNhacmo/w-d-xo.html
Wow you explained it really well! 😀
Thank you for the very condensed information. No bullshitting, just helpful tips from a genuine person. Thank you!
Dude I’ve don’t the first 15 mins in Ableton but I don’t know what to do next? pls anyone help. Any tutorial suggestions or any ideas of what to do next would be great
hey man! I have a link in my description to an Ableton Tutorial that should help you out a bunch. Stay tuned for more
Been holding off on playing music for 4 years due to school, money, and honestly just forgetting but I think it might be time to finally get into it.❤
Today is the day! do it
Awesome. Simple. Right to the point. Love it 👍
Glad you liked it!
You’re great man
You are one of the most “straight to the point” producers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen quite a lot.
Keep up the great work. Much love and respect from Iran. 🤍
dude, you said 15 times the word DAW & Digital Audio Work station
Where is my Prize?
really liked the video man.
When I saw the minimum spec for the PC I got a kidney Attack like, I use Core2Duo with 4GB DDR2 RAM & I got Ableton lite key borrowed from my friend & I am good with what I have. & I got an earphone to monitor. I'm even eligible to call my self as a producer?
this is literally the best video for beginners.... thank the gods!!
glad I could help you!!! I have another beginner video here - th-cam.com/video/TvYxLNhacmo/w-d-xo.html
Word I just started to notice that I dont need music theory knowledge but.....there is a formula to making a good song.
Your music theory will come over time! Use all the tools you can to learn your program and hardware for now(:
I love this guy the way he articulate things it makes sense Thank you!
hell yea man! Glad I could help. What genre are you producing?
its kinda interesting, i am trying to start producing music for years but there are a lot of things keeping me away from that "start" u know, gaming, being lazy, work and and and.... but after your video i feel like i am already a part of it. I was writing some songtexts just for fun but u made the point of my being lazy here I think, now i am going to look for ableton or FL Studio. #justdoit
if anyone else wants to start now, hit me up. its always better to start together i think hahah
Hell ya man, now is a great time to start. You got this
@@SoundConstraints hopefully, but I will try
Same boat as you.., we got this 🤙🏼 One step at a time😅
@@paulinacordova1111 good luck and have fun 👍🏻💯
Love the no nonsense straightforward presentation. Plenty of tips here for beginners. This video gets five stars!
id say ableton is the best daw. alot of my fav edm producers and djs always mention ableton at some point if they are podcasting or talking about music in general, id say ableton is like the Pioneer DJ of daw software, its kind of the unspoken industry strandard imo
Damn this video is perfect holy hell. You hit the nail on the head with the two reasons at the beginning as well
Hey man thank you for the video, this is really helpful.
You said "DAW" 14 times and "Digital Audio Workstation" 3 times
DAW - 14
Digital Audio Workstation 3
I been making beats since 97, first on Cool Edit and then Acid Pro, and i still find this video very helpful!
No time wasted. The video even ends before you stop speaking
Straight up. we all got places to be!
im 29, would love to start making music, thanks for the tips bro
I’ve been doing music production for about 4 years now, maybe 5, but I needed a pick me up. So thanks! Good video
Glad you liked it Athena! What genre do you typically make?
@@SoundConstraints I don’t know! I guess Synthwave and ambient. It’s hard to say. I’m bad at genres
There was an interesting interview with Diplo where he said he wishes there were more female artists and wants to sign some/ is always on the look out for new acts but there are hardly any women interested in producing EDM/trying to get signed (his words)
So yes the space is mostly men.. but the majority of people even interested in producing EDM seem to be men haha.
Just want to say this is literally what I’ve been asking for and how to start my singing career
hope you stuck at it
The video stops mid sentence lol
When you said that when you start a new hobby you like to get the best gear and stuff you can from the jump I knew I found the right video. I do the same thing. If I can afford it why get cheap stuff.

The explanations are thorough and easy to understand. I will continue to study until I become a creator. Thank you for the video!!!
Is a laptop okay?
Yeah, for about 3 seconds
Trust me I know
Depends on the specs
Abrupt ending but great little video, no bs, simple and straightforward. Thank you

Very straightforward, now I have an idea on where to begin. But the video ends in the middle of a sentence, kind of ironic when before was saying how he strives for great quality in the videos. Murphys law. Anyways, thanks, found it really helpful and saved it for rewatches
