  • These are really great amps that a lot of players don't know about. This one needs some help to get back to its full potential.

I've owned several Traynor amps and currently have a ygl-3 mk3 chassis and man what a lot of amp for the money! These seem to be going up in price over the last few years, I guess the secret is out, killer amps for a bargain price.

I have one and play bass through it a lot. I love it! And lighter than my V4B.. I've re-capped it... swapped out the volume pot on input 1, just standard maintenance... Punchy kinda like a bassman, but has a little more "junk in the trunk". These were basically a Fender input section up with a Marshall style output section.

I had one briefly, and it would do a weird compression thing when it was cranked full, and get really bassy. Did anybody else have that experience?

Is there a part 2 to this video?

Good evening Lyle. I have a question for you. I recently acquired a Traynor YBA1. Is it ok to run into my ampeg 6x10 bass cab rated at 4ohm? There is no impedance selector and don't want the Hammond tranny going down. Thank you and god bless. Love your channel!

I’m about to buy one and I had asked a few times if the internals were original. They finally sent me a picture, it doesn’t really look the same as this.
Mostly near where the switch is to turn it off, towards the back there are four somewhat big black cylinders and I see “a2306 and a2363 sparks” where used.
Not sure what changing the sparks would do to the tonality or what I’m really looking at, I’m just interested in something close enough to the original circuit so I can tweak only what I want.
    Any advice ?

The "black cylinders" are likely new power supply caps that were installed inside the chassis.

Traynors from different years can look very different from one another as well

What year/version is this Traynor, do you remember? It looks, from the inside, very much like my ‘78.

I looked up the service record for you. Jan of '79.

@@PsionicAudio Thanks! I didn’t even think about the pots. Looks like I have some audio taper pots to order. Did the same thing in my Hotrod Deluxe. Why they ever put linear master volume in that thing is beyond me. Forget about changing V1 to lower gain. Audio taper made it so much more versatile.
