I remember there was this band I opened for back in high school. They were in their late 20s and were kinda like a bad version of Death Cab, and they were making this huge deal that their first album was being worked on and they had excessive amounts of merch for the level of show we were playing and having no records or fans yet. They went on and started their set, but it crashed and burned in awkward silence after the drummer forgot to hit a crash during a climactic crecendo and the vocalist screamed at him and made them stop and start the song over. They awkwardly began playing the song again and the room began to empty. They stopped playing after they finished the song even though they still had like 30 minutes left of their set. Every other band before them that night ripped and enjoyed themselves (ourselves and our shitty high school cover band included) while the headliners emptied the room with how pretentious and off-kilter they showed themselves off to be.
