How big was this? It was #1 single in 4 countries, and the album it was on, Slippery When Wet (check out the cover art) was the top selling LP of 1987. Yeah, it was pretty big
I have a Bon Jovi story. My daughter was born in '85, her first words were 'Bon Jobi'. At 15 she got to see them in convert. They had 3 screens on the stage a big one in the middle with 2 smaller ones on either side. When he was singing Wanted Dead or Alive, my baby girl was on both of the small screens her eyes shut singing with him.
the song alone is like 3x platinum and the album it’s from is diamond certified… it’s huge. it’s one of those songs that everybody seems to know somehow, no matter what genre you listen to, because it’s amazing 💜
I was a teenager back in this era, and yes most of us who had hair to spray was spraying it. We had the ripped jeans, torn shirts and big hair. The time when music was fun and women was galore. Damn if only to go back to those times.
I was 16 when this song came out & Bon Jovi was 1 of my favorite bands. So many hair bands back in the day, but it was a great time to be a teenager & YES we really did use the hell outta Aqua Net!😂😂
This album was a monster thanks to this song and Wanted Dead or Alive in particular. Bon Jovi and Def Leppard seemed to trade off these enormous albums in the 80s (Pyromania, Slippery When Wet, Hysteria, New Jersey), selling tens of millions of albums. Then Guns & Roses Appetite For Destruction came out in 1988 and outsold them all.
So, I grew up in Australia in the 90s, and back then pop culture took a while to catch up but I can attest, the wide use of Hair Spray was SO MUCH, like I can remember tossing out like 20+ cans of the stuff every couple weeks, it was crazy. That shifted by the end of the decade, but I have to imagine it was A Lot everywhere else too.
I was a teenager when this song came out! The Aqua Net stock was astronomical! I worked at McDonald's & babysit for hair spray, skating rink & movie money! Lol Bon Jovi was massive back then. Great reaction! Love it when Smokey started singing with Hollywood! Y'all are great reactors!
Yes. Our hair was crunchy Garth Brooks did the suspension flew over the audience all the way to the upper arena. Great live performance. The song was "Ain't goin down til the sun comes up."
Yes - we did use that much hair spray. We teased and sprayed till the "sculpture" was just right. I miss those days. The movie that showed people getting up off a couch was on "Coming to America."
I was 24 when this song came out in 1986, and yes we used a lot of hairspray!!! We'd bleach and perm our hair and everyone was doing it. If it wasn't big enough, you'd back comb it!!! It's amazing we're not all bald. I've waited...and waited to see if this style ever returned and it never has, Hahaha! No...why? I'd love to see young people doing it again. All hail the Hairbands!
HAHAHA!!! The Madonna song is "Like a Prayer"... That's funny you knew that Hollywood!!! And we all rocked out to this album... Great reaction guys... Keep it up!!!
I was in my early/mid twenties when this came out….he had one song that introduced us to him before this called “Little Runaway”…then this album came out in 1986 and exploded!
This album came out of nowhere and launched Bon Jovi into the stratosphere. Ive seen Bon Jovi, as an opening act, on each of their first 2 albums and this one made them headliners. Love them or hate them, they worked their asses off to be one of the biggest bands ever.
THANK YOU FOR DOING BON JOVI! ❤ Legit one of my favorite bands ever. Please check out more from them! Recs: "I'll Be There for You" ('80s) "Wanted Dead or Alive" ('80s) "Lay Your Hands on Me" ('80s) "Keep the Faith" ('90s) "Bed of Roses" ('90s) "Always" ('90s) "Hey God" ('90s) "It's My Life" ('00s) (this song mentions the same Tommy & Gina) "One Wild Night" ('00s) "Everyday" ('00s) "Bounce" ('00s) (no official video but I love the song) "We Weren't Born to Follow" ('00s) And they've kept going, too. Recent releases are "Limitless", "Unbroken", and "American Reckoning" from the past few years. And honestly I could keep going. Jon Bon Jovi has also had some singles of his own. If you did "Miracle" by him I would adore you forever. No one has done it yet and it's a shame because it's a great song with some of my favorite lyrics. Okay I'll shut up now, lol. 😂
When Bon Jovi started the Tour to support this album. They were broke and never expected to continue their career. At they end of the tour. They landed in a private plane.
Can I just say how much I adore your tribe gentleman! Yesterday was super rough and I missed out on your video until this morning, but that just means there's more comments for me to read and I just love them, you have the best peeps! I saw Bon Jovi with Ratt at 17 with all the girlfriends, and all the Aquanet, got to say I don't miss those days LOL of course I miss the fun and The Reckless wild youth, but I definitely don't miss spending two hours every f****** day doing my hair LOL✌💚🌻😎
This is the biggest tune Bon Jovi has ever made. Bon Jovi's heaviest glam metal album is New Jersey and it had the rawness plus it didn't have so much commercialty which was slippery when wet. You guys need to review a song from These days that was a very underrated album made by the band but surely the best album Jovi has ever made.
My sister's mirror had a film on it from all the hairspray. And you're thinking of Coming To America, with the couch. And Hollywood Shuffle had a great Jeri Spray scene.
The ‘80’s was a decade trying to hard to make things into trends and fads and they all quickly disappeared. However, ‘80’s music became more synthesized and keyboards and sounded futuristic. Some fell into obscurity and a huge part of the ‘80’s still stands up today. That’s the beauty of music, it doesn’t matter how old you are or at what point in your life you heard a band or artist song and you never knew who the band was or the singer but you have heard a song or two and when you realize the band ir artist you’re blown away by that fact. I listen to music when I need music therapy depending on my mood and I’m 50 who remembers things from 1976 because that was when I started to remember so much growing up. The music in the ‘70’s was the same thing only difference is there were more acoustic songs about love and the birth of power ballads. I love music! I love how music transcends time and the lyrics are just as relevant today as it was when it was written. Anyways, I’m babbling! Glad you got into Bon Jovi. Take care! - Gene A.
This was my favorite song when i was a little kid. They'd play this at the Rollerdrome and I'd rock out on my rented roller skates. I tried to play the tape in our minivan and it ate the tape. My brother was so mad he gave me the iron claw (No joke he picked me up by my face, it hurt a lot) and he banned me from his music collection (that hurt too, but more deep inside).
Lita Ford was rocking just as hard as the hair bands of the 80s!!! But no one reacts to her music 🎶 !!! Hungry Can’t Catch Me Black Widow Larger Than Life Fatal Passion And many more !!!! ❤😊
Yes!!! Aqua net would hold your hair all day, it was like liquid cement for your hair 😂 also it was so nice to be able to be up close to the stage. Now you have gates and security how sad.
I didn't use hairspray at all, lol. I did speak with Jon Bon and Richie in Denver. I recorded it at the time, lol. Gresy guys, flirtatious but innocent. Richie asked me if he could take 13:46 me where it stinks (Jersey), lol.
Morning fellas! Mannnn that brought me back! Those times were great! I was 11 or 12 and loved bon jovi! Still love this song! Yesssss! We used hella aqua net!!! It was crazy! Oh hollywood, your thinking of the movie coming to america with eddie murphy! Great movie btw!!! 🤓❤️
I was a teenager when This came out...immediate hit...long hair was "IT"...Nah, we didn't have to use allot of hairspray because we had perms....My hair was very much like these guys, but layered, feminine. That was the beauty of a perm or body wave. Anyways, these guys always put on a fantactic show, they always had a good time on stage which was contagious to all of us in the crowd...The good days when no cell phones, we had thise throw away cameras. Very rarely was there trouble. We sure didn't have to worry about getting shot or whatever back then..Yes, there was weed all over, but the kids, crowd were there to have fun......Loved Bon Jovi....
The Madonna song I feel you were trying to think of was "Like a Prayer". It was very controversial for its time (1989). Pink has been doing the suspended in air thing for years. I think she still does. She used to be a gymnast so she can do some serious acrobats too. Anyway, Bon Jovi puts on an Awesome show!! These guys have so many hits! They've been around since 1983. Love Bon Jovi!!
As a (kind of) musician, as you guys are. So the Chorus "Ohhh! Halfway there. Ohhh! Living on a prayer" is SO high! And then after the "You live for the fight when that's all that you've got." There's a key change, to make it 2 half steps higher. (Otherwise known as the Barry Manilow. He does it in all of his songs.) Insane! But when your writing a song in that you can sing in your 20's and you still have to try to sing it in your 50's. Well, that's a good problem to have. You probably didn't think you'd be singing it that long. Heh.
The album was recorded in my hometown of Vancouver. They hung out at #5 Orange. Being a peeler bar, they had shower shows with those little signs that say “slippery when wet”. The docks were just down the street.
So,I don't know if anyone has brought this song to your attention, but Jon Bon Jovi released a solo single called Blaze of Glory for the Young Guns 2 soundtrack. To this day it remains to be one of my all time favorite songs.
It's a good song. I think I was like 5yrs old when it was released. BUT everybody knows their two best songs are "Runaway" and "You Give Love a Bad Name"
Slippery When Wet album ROCKED when it came out & still does today!!😃love Bon Jovi!!! But yes, hair metal...glam rock...whatever,it still was freaking AWESOME when I was 11!! Lol Still gotta love the freedom in the attitude and lyrics though.thanks for the memories of my youth🎶❤✌
Great reminiscing about the old days. At one point I had the Lisa Lisa hair dew, the long permed curls & my long & straight , but very starched hair dew along with others 😂. Hollywood is thinking of Madonna's Like a pray song 😉
When this album came out I was about 9 years old. I had the tape 😂 and had a little red boom box that I carried around all day everyday playing it, especially this song. My mom had a rule I had to turn it off at dinner, but I could put the cassette player under my chair.
13 year old me had Jon bon Jovi on my wall. I remember watching much music (canadas mtv) and waiting for this video to come on so I could tape on the vhs. lol. And yeah to the hair spray. Also I’ve just noticed that you have reactions to some faves of mine… Lou reed, green day, and ren… love the variety.
This album was played on the school bus every morning for weeks lol. We were allowed to bring our boom boxes on school bus and play them as loud as we wanted 😂😂😂. That stuff wouldn't be allowed nowadays
😂Smokey.. You cracked me up. You made the comment about Aquanet just as I was saying it. Poison, Bon Jovi, Warrent... Some of my faves from when I was a teenager (they still are). Think the song Hollywood was thinking of is Like A Prayer by Madonna. Love to you both.
These are my teenage years and believe me hairspray was used to the max, girls with awesome big hair, guys with long hair, at that time i had short hair, i grew my hair in 1990 when grunge hit, i got my hair to the middle of my back. But now they're all gone!! 😂😂😂
Hair/pop metal and the Madonna song was Like a Prayer. And yes. We would go thru a whole can of hairspray a week. Or more. My lungs are fine but as you see I’m now bald. Lol
Yes, folks used that much hairspray. How else do you think people could get the big hair? It was rough sometimes to go into the bathroom at school because so many girls would be spraying at the same time and it was like a cloud in the air.
20 years ago I worked in an er, one of our doctors was married to a scientist who discovered the chemical compound that would prevent that from happening which is how we still use aerosol sprays today, yeah they have a little bit of money...😊
I remember listening to this in the car with my mom as a kid. But can you please look up Lukas Rossi cover of it? I prefer his take on it. Different version
How big was this? It was #1 single in 4 countries, and the album it was on, Slippery When Wet (check out the cover art) was the top selling LP of 1987. Yeah, it was pretty big
something like 25 million copies sold. One of the greatest hits in rock history
I have a Bon Jovi story. My daughter was born in '85, her first words were 'Bon Jobi'. At 15 she got to see them in convert. They had 3 screens on the stage a big one in the middle with 2 smaller ones on either side. Slippery when wet. My first concert i was 16. What a time to be a teenager ❤
Saw them with Priest for that tour! Bon Jovi were "Special Guests" for it. Good times.
❤️
Such an anthem, this will never get old, the whole album was fire 🔥
I was 16 when this song came out & Bon Jovi was 1 of my favorite bands. So many hair bands back in the day, but it was a great time to be a teenager & YES we really did use the hell outta Aqua Net!😂😂
The Madonna song you are thinking of is “just like a prayer”
Brings me back to my high school days listening to this and Def Leopard,Journey Boston and on and on such better music than today
This album was a monster thanks to this song and Wanted Dead or Alive in particular. Then Guns & Roses Appetite For Destruction came out in 1988 and outsold them all.
I saw them live with Rat and Cinderella. You can't imagine how much big hair there was. And yes, we considered them all Hair Bands.
One of my first posters was Cinderella! Lol
When Bon Jovi first came on the scene record stores didn’t know what genre to put them in
This is when life was AWESOME
Yassssss!!!
I was a teen back then, and yes, we used the heck out of our aquanet!! lol. And yes, this song was just as awesome back then!!
Born in 77, Bon Jovi was always Rock/Hard Rock to me. They have always been popular.
That was a fun premier. I'll have to try and make it to more of them🤘🏼
I was a teenager when this song came out! The Aqua Net stock was astronomical! I worked at McDonald's & babysit for hair spray, skating rink & movie money! Lol
Bon Jovi was massive back then. Great reaction! Love it when Smokey started singing with Hollywood! Y'all are great reactors!
I remember always loving the skating rink etc..and aqua net lol
Alec von Such was a founding member and bassist of Bon Jovi. He sadly passed away in 2022.
Alec John Such
Really alec passed... RIP buddy ..
Yes. Our hair was crunchy
Garth Brooks did the suspension flew over the audience all the way to the upper arena. Great live performance. The song was "Ain't goin down til the sun comes up."
I'd love to see some Garth on more reactions. That one, thunder rolls, the dance, cowboy bill, if tomorrow never comes etc
🍻
they have so many great songs
Yes - we did use that much hair spray. We teased and sprayed till the "sculpture" was just right. I miss those days. The movie that showed people getting up off a couch was on "Coming to America."

The girls bathroom at my highschool looked like a bodyshop spraybooth when the door was open, aquanet clouds rollin out the door.
Yep, we used a lot of hairspray. Long Hairs had to be styled this days. Saw Bon Jovi live in Vienna in 1997. Unforgetable!
Bon Jovi brings people together ❤️❤️❤️ Jon shares my birthday, I love the guy!!
I was in my early/mid twenties when this came out….he had one song that introduced us to him before this called “Little Runaway”…then this album came out in 1986 and exploded!

love bon jovi. Husband has seen bon jovi back in 89
My sister's mirror had a film on it from all the hairspray.
And you're thinking of Coming To America, with the couch.
And Hollywood Shuffle had a great Jeri Spray scene.
My sister and I went to see them back in 1993, after I turned 18. It was in Nashville, on their Keep the Faith tour. And, it was awesome.

I remember being at a concert on this tour and it was amazing. I love the video because it’s the work we don’t see.
I didn't use hairspray at all, lol. I did speak with Jon Bon and Richie in Denver. I recorded it at the time, lol. Gresy guys, flirtatious but innocent. Richie asked me if he could take 13:46 me where it stinks (Jersey), lol.
I loved Bon Jovi from day 1. I miss that hair.
He did have cool hair
Even though that key change at the end ruined his voice, I still get goosebumps every time I hear it
Bro, go to any suburban club and put this song on around 10:30 PM. You’re welcome.
Fun fact: Longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora left the band in 2013
And it was never the same band.
I'm glad someone else remembered what movie that was from. I was about to say it. Cheers 🍻
I was a dancer from age 3-13 ('80-'93), I was intimately familiar with hairspray back then lol.
Hell yes we used that much hairspray!
I was a teenager when This came out...immediate hit...long hair was "IT"...Nah, we didn't have to use allot of hairspray because we had perms....My hair was very much like these guys, but layered, feminine.

This was a great time to be a teenager and this song and album was HUGE!…80’s was so much fun
Madonna had a song called, Like A Prayer.
Yes!!! Teased it with a toothbrush and sprayed!!!
The album was recorded in my hometown of Vancouver. They hung out at #5 Orange. Being a peeler bar, they had shower shows with those little signs that say “slippery when wet”. The docks were just down the street.
David Lee Roth was wearing assless pants 10 years before Prince!
Yes😂😂Cher too!
Like them or not There still going strong! 💪🏻
Y’all are both Trippin’ 😂
So,I don't know if anyone has brought this song to your attention, but Jon Bon Jovi released a solo single called Blaze of Glory for the Young Guns 2 soundtrack. To this day it remains to be one of my all time favorite songs.
This song was insanely huge...the album Slippery when wet sold about 35 mln copies....
It's a good song. I think I was like 5yrs old when it was released. BUT everybody knows their two best songs are "Runaway" and "You Give Love a Bad Name"
I was 13, this was my first concert. It was awesome
I dont really care for either but i think there's a big thing about people from tri state on who is better, him or Bruce
Same here! I was 11/12 my room was wallpapered with posters from the mags and of course bon Jovi was up there too! Lol. Fun times!
Well, the song has become a golf anthem if you leave your 30 foot putt 15 feet short
Bon jovi YES!!!! One of my favorites bands of my younger years ❤. This album and song is legendary 🙌 👌..
In the 80's, I used more mousse than hairspray.
My hair was similar to Jon’s but I had more hairspray.
Bon Jovi had songs that was were harder when they first came out.
The Madonna song you're thinking of is Like A Prayer.
i got to see Bon Jovi twice & Richie Sambora once.
Great reminiscing about the old days. At one point I had the Lisa Lisa hair dew, the long permed curls & my long & straight , but very starched hair dew along with others 😂. Hollywood is thinking of Madonna's Like a pray song 😉
LOVED Lisa Lisa ❤ 😊
This was the theme song of a generation ...
you guys should try "ciao baby" by the cult, and "nobody's diary" and "only you" by Yazzo
I think they did ciao baby??
But hella good song!!❤️❤️
Gotta love Bon Jovi!!!!
Thanks for having my back, Hollywood. Damn Smokey, Talkin' Trash about me and my blonde and gray ponytail. 🤣 Cheers Y'all 🍻🤘
Oh yeah bigger the better. Tease and spray...repeat.
Madonna song was "Like a Prayer" killer song and video. Yes we used alot of Auqanet 😂😂at the end of a concert you still had the hold😂😂😂😂
Yes, at least a bottle of Aquanet Hairspray a week!
Yes, we really did use COPIOUS amounts of hair spray....LOL
❤❤❤❤Aquanet actually was the big hairspray everyone used !! It worked !!
Hair/pop metal and the Madonna song was Like a Prayer. And yes. We would go thru a whole can of hairspray a week. Or more. My lungs are fine but as you see I’m now bald. Lol
God concerts in the 80s were so much fun I mean SO MUCH FUN!!
Yes. Yes we did use that much hairspray. 100% yes.
Yes, folks used that much hairspray. How else do you think people could get the big hair? It was rough sometimes to go into the bathroom at school because so many girls would be spraying at the same time and it was like a cloud in the air.
"Coming to America" Eddie Murphy. The jerry curls juice comes from that movie.
We were told that aerosol hair spray was putting a hole in the ozone layer.
20 years ago I worked in an er, one of our doctors was married to a scientist who discovered the chemical compound that would prevent that from happening which is how we still use aerosol sprays today, yeah they have a little bit of money...😊
I was in the military in 1986 when this came out so no hair spray for me but it appeared to be a fad back then.
I remember listening to this in the car with my mom as a kid. But can you please look up Lukas Rossi cover of it? I prefer his take on it. Different version
The movie you are thinking of is Coming To America
This was big
