Funny to come upon this video. I have a pretty athletic serve and am from a tennis background. I have had a few occasions where someone comments that my serve is illegal. It’s usually by someone with a bowling style serve. I have recorded myself and can clearly see that I am following all the rules. Head is below the handle with an upward motion and contact is below my navel. How do you handle a situation like that?
Hi great video. I would like to see your wife do a video. I have seen her play and she is good. I have a suggestion. I have 10 year old grand daughter and I was trying to get her to play pickleball. I think there is a need for pickleball for training for youth. I think more kids are taking up pickleball today. Are there high school pickleball games? College pickleball games? What age did you and your wife start playing pickleball? What would be a good age to start teaching someone to play pickleball? Soo sorry for all the questions. Thanks for another great video. Ben
Oh you hit a nerve for sure! All of those things are pet peeves and hear them constantly to new players! Drives me crazy. Those and "hold the paddle like you're holding a bird." Come on! How many people have actually HELD a BIRD. Very few. Same with bowling - wonder how many of those pickleball teachers first ask, "have you ever bowled?" Makes no sense! Thank you for your funny outlook on this.
@@BrionesPickleball While all those players are tennis players, I would not say that their servers are an adaption from that sport. The tennis serve is overhand. The racquetball serve is much closer to the pickleball serve form wise.
You had me laughing out loud. So funny seeing you serve like a 2.0 player...I am sure they is how they were taught by some "well intentioned" person. So agree with these. This could also be labeled how to tell quickly that someone is a beginner. The serve for sure. And like you said...they always stand facing directly forward with toes up against the NVZ line instead of towards the ball...standing tall without bending their knees.

As for the grip pressure, when hitting soft shots, we do want a fairly light grip.
For serving, bowling is not the way to go! Lol

I am not sure about tennis players having the best pickleball serve. I would think the edge would go to racquetball players.
