I took care of a veteran from the U.S.S. Arizona attack. Raymond Haerry Sr. He was an absolute pleasure to be around. Quiet and respectful. Any time I seemed overwhelmed with work he'd always ask, "How're you doin'?" Even though he was in his 80s-90s, he'd abandon his walker, stack up his dishes and slowly make his way to my dirty dishes to help. I think he just loved helping. (And giving me a heart attack) I recommend googling his name and reading the articles they wrote about him before and after his passing.
I remember when I was a kid someone from the office came and asked a girl in our class to come with them. Right after that the teacher announced the Jonestown massacre and turned on the tv so we could all watch the news coverage. It turned out the girl’s family had gone to Jonestown, and she was living with relatives (I assume grandparents). We never saw her again. I guess she moved away or ended up going to another school.
I worked with a lady whos dad was one of the engineers that tried to stop the Challenger from taking off. She said he carried that guilt with him for the rest of his life.
Saw challenger outside at school. We all did. 90% of the school were NASA kids. Within 3 years before the relaunch of program most had moved off. My father had to report to congress about them trying to delay the launch before hand. I still can't even watch a video of a launch
My kids' Great-grandfather was one of the welders trying to rescue sailors out of the USS Arizona. Right before he got the hatch opened, the banging stopped. They died just as they got it opened. He was a bad alcoholic the rest of his life, blaming himself for their deaths (he wasn't to blame). 😢
8:15 My Grandpa was a welder in Cali during this. He said he was able to stay stateside but welded on some ships he said were just deviating. He passed in 2024 at 96 yrs young
My great-uncle, Carey K. Stockwell, was killed during the bombing of Hickam Airfield during the attack on Pearl Harbor. RIP, When the Japanese attacked Oahu's military installations on 7 December 1941, Hickam suffered extensive property damage, aircraft losses, and personnel casualties totaling 139 killed and 303 wounded. The bombing and strafing of Hickam Field was an important objective, because the success of the Japanese attack on the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor was dependent on eliminating air opposition and precluding US planes from following their aircraft back to their carriers and bombing the task force.
I have posted this in several sites. Descent into Darkness: Pearl Harbor, 1941: A Navy Diver's Memoir Paperback by Edward C. Raymer is a MUST read for anyone wanting the story of the refloating of the ships and recovery of the deceased at Pearl Harbor.
My grandfather was on the Helena when it was hit at pearl harbour and again when it was hit in 1943 by a Japanese destroyer. Thankfully he was not injured in either of these.
Yes, the men killed on WWII warships were frequently unidentifiable because of extreme blast or fire damage. War is a horrifying thing, and there is no glorifying it. But respect and honor is due to all of those who gave their lives to preserve our freedom.
I had been in sixth grade when the shuttle exploded. We were watching it live and the teachers didn’t know what to do. Unfortunately they did the worst thing possible is they left the TVs on and I ended up watching it over and over again because it was on a news channel.
I cannot imagine any greater honor for a salor than to be buried with their shipmates. So, the number of remains in one casket wouldnt matter to me, or anyother sailor i know.
59:22 'As of April 2024, there has yet to be another shuttle catastrophe..' Likewise, as of Jan 2025, no more galleons from the Spanish Armada have sunk...
I was in Japan this summer. My last stop was supposed to be Hiroshima. A typhoon cancelled that plan. I had to get back to Narita because all the trains were going to be cancelled & I would miss my flight home. Seeing the Peace Park here makes me even more sad that I missed it. I will return some day. It's a beautiful country.
Humanity at its worst. Unthinkable what humans do to one another. Many wars since this tragedy, I surmise nothing has been learned at all. Humans love war, nothing new here. I'm wondering if or when humans attain a higher level of consciousness.
My dad was wounded in the far east , was sent back to england and became a pow camp guard,, he said at the end of the war many prisoners was just young kids .... on e kid was excited to go back to Germany and his parents ,,, his home town was DRESDEN ,
Its been a few years ago I spoke to a Pearl Harbor Hero. Bless him please Lord Jesus. He told that his ship the USS Cambridge was trying to get the hell out there .
Arlington was ground seized from the wife of a confederate general?!? WTF kind of unity/reconciliation is that?? If true, it's very very sad for the southern-bred servicemen buried there now. This should be better publicized.
@@colleen2864 You’re just discovering this now? Have you visited Arlington? Seen the guards walking night & day. It is an awesome place you will never forget.
No patriot is on the side of those who rebelled against the US Government, who ripped the country apart. Just because the traitors were treated kindly after the war doesn't mean that they are respected.
God bless 🙏❤️ ALL of these very brave young men and veterans and all of the nurses who suffered and, 'or 'died, at this most tragic attack.. Old men start wars and young men fight and die in them.. 😮How awful. God save them all.
Elementary or H.s ?
@@Manuelabor1978 THAT was my question?? What teacher turns on a TV for pupils to watch THAT?
As a kid in the 70s, I can confirm teachers would roll in a TV into the classroom and show such news events.
HOW TERRIBLE FOR HER
Loved seeing Caitlin Doughty being referenced, good research all around
Love her!!
Me too me too!! I just started the video so now I have something too look forward to!
She’s the coolest mortician Ever!!! 😊😊😊
These are questions i often wonder. Ty for all this and RIP

I was in high school in California. We weren't watching it.
I remember watching it as it happened in class in Oklahoma 😭
I went to Pearl Harbor last week. It was devastating to see what had happened there.
My grandpa was on the USS Missouri. I cant even imagine the survivors guilt he must’ve felt

Was he there for the Japanese surrender?

They'd be disappointed to see what they died for has become. May they rest in eternal peace

Wasn’t there a survivor of the Arizona who wished to be buried at sea with his shipmates? If I recall, his cremains were placed there upon his death.
Yes there were a few that made that decision through the years if I remember correctly

Why would there be more shuttle accidents?? The program is over
I am grateful that DNA tests have been carried out on recovered remains at Pearl Harbor. I have visited the memorial.
It’s Texan not Texian there’s no such thing as a Texian
Umm.. before making a comment, you should really make sure you’re right.
Pick your battles... rude
You’ve obviously forgotten the Alamo… look it up
All challenger crew allegedly still alive!
Why no mention of, that, US naval intelligence knew this attack was going down and let it go ahead, going down in infamy, according to Roosevelt?
So thats why they dropped it whT are the names of those military men
And yet……we haven’t walked on the moon since🤔🤷🏻♀️

Is this another AI narration? Basic words are being mispronounced.
Yup. Sounds like AI that's been poorly taught.
You need to edit the pronunciation of “TEXAN”…the narrator said ‘texian’! SMH! Also, the pronunciation of BEXAR is “bear”!!
“Texian” is a perfectly valid historical pronunciation for the people of Texas, look it up. SMH!
@@elizabethfallert1963Also BEXAR is pronounced bay-har. If dude wants to correct somebody so badly maybe he should be correcting himself.....
