I was fortunate to receive some very expired film from my great uncle's collection, so I went out and shot it. Let's take a look at shooting a Kodak c41 film that expired in 1978.

Picked up some Agfa APX 25 that expired in the mid 80s a little while ago. It’s so slow it shoots just fine at box speed, and is still super contrasty and super sharp

The heat of a garage in summer seems like the culprit. Sorry you didn’t get a result, but at least you didn’t pay for the film! Thanks for sharing your experience. Really enjoy your content!

About a year ago, I bought a roll of Kodacolor 400 that expired in 1991. Now im very curious as to how it'll turn out when I pull it out of the freezer.
Great video, by the way! I hope you continue to shoot expired films, they are very rewarding when you get something from them.

I've had bricks and reels of expired black & white film and the best results after some experimentation is over exposure and stand developing. Those cool old emulsions won't be around much longer, treasure it!

Getting ready to shoot some 30 and 40 year expired B&W sheet film, one frozen, one not. "Usually" B&W seems to hold up better as it becomes more of just a fog/grain issue without the added issues of color shift. You brought up something I was just thinking about this week when you called the 80asa 'slow". When I first got into photography 45 years ago 64asa and 100asa were standard films, 400asa was special stuff for when it was really starting to get dark and we tended to avoid it. Now days I see many if not most content providers shooting 400 as their daily stuff and 800 is the low light stuff. Anyway, great content as always!

Last month I was at my parents and my mom pulls out a bag of Kodak gold and Max that’s 20 years expired. The 200 iso stuff is super foggy at 200 iso but it’s super cool. Hopefully you have more luck with the rest of the film!

I have quite a few rolls of old film that my father bought from Freestyle in the early and mid 1980s. Most of this is Orwo black and white. Some was stored rather badly and has mildew damage which actually ends up looking pretty neat. I also have some Panatomic X which has fared pretty well. I shoot it at ISO 8 rather than ISO 32, but other than that, it’s looks pretty good. And I have a can of 5 inch by 200 feet of Plus-X aerial film that I’ll probably hack into 4x5 and 5x7 sheets. I’ve never experimented with color films but I’ve liked some of the results I have gotten on expired black and white.

I bought a few kodacolor VR 1000 rolls (expired 1985) from eBay and had good photos from my first roll, but I also bought a different film before that was all magenta haha It's risky fun, but getting no images at all really is disappointing 😢 it's cool that this was from your late uncle though

i heard you pull 1 stop for each decade....when developing do you develop @ the stop you pulled to, box speed or 2 stops pushed from box speed?

Really interesting. Would love to see if it works better at ISO 5.

I too think expired film is a sham. lol
Thanks to Lomography I think I thought that expired film was supposed to give you a unique image rendering.
I don't understand how old film has gone up in price if it can't be proven that it was cold stored.
I think I'll much rather buy Kono Manufaktur film for interesting results.

Have you tried expired b&w film. I have a bunch of Tri-X purchased in the late 90s.
Also Plus-X was my favorite film back in the 50s early 60s. Also I might try some expired Pan-X.

I have! I just recently shot a roll of Plus-X from 1978 that I’ll be posting about.

good experiment! all expired films are risky ~_~
if the film didnt store at good temperature conditions, it would be almost nothing.
but still enjoy your vid! shoot everything u got n live that moment cuz it would never happened again 🙌🏻
    luv from Taiwan 🤓📸
