That Music Is "TIMELESS" As All Great Music Is 👌🏿. Chic, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, The Beatles...You See Where I'm Going With This. It Still Hits Hard Today As It Did When I Was 3 (1977) 😆.
I’ve always enjoyed the intelligence of the Sledge sisters. Whenever I’ve heard interviews of them they were smart, sharp and always gracious when talking about their producers and other artists they have worked with. I remember an interview they did with Dick Clark early in their career where Joni spoke French and Debbie spoke Spanish because they were preparing for a European tour. I was very sad to hear that Joni passed and will always remember her beautiful face, her talent and smile. Rest in Peace Joni Sledge.
Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers created so much joy and beauty with their extraordinary music that it became timeless. Thank you to also all the amazing artists they collaborated with.
Such beautiful, talented, gifted ladies. They have age gracefully. They look wonderful!!!!!!! They were Blessed to have been inspired/led by such legends as Chic!!!!!!!
R.I.P Joni Gone too soon!! From the very first time I saw your photograph in 1979, I loved you and never stopped!! I still can't believe you're gone!! :-( I'm just glad I saw you perform live on several occasions and met you in person once (Outside London Dominion Theatre1985) xxx
RIP Joni. my first concert Sister Sledge CHIC Six Flags Amusement Park Graduation Night 1979 in Atlanta Georgia .. those lead vocals were either Joni or Kathy and that backing vocal trademark CHIC sound of Fonzi Thornton Alfa Anderson Lucie Martin Diva Gray & Norma Jean Wright is perfection .. you can hear their backing vocals on all of the CHIC productions of that time, Sheila & B. Devotion "Spacer" Diana Ross , Sister Sledge , & the brilliant Johnny Mathis album which wasnt released until 2010 in a CHIC box set .. nothing to beat it . Lost In Music ..
Also my 1st Concert. Same year September 23rd I think. @ London’s Hammersmith Odeon. CHIC that night we’re playing in Paris. Around October 9th I saw Chic at the same venue in London. You forgot Luther Vandross was also on the 1st Sister Sledge album too ☺️ The ‘We Are Family’ album remains my favourite album cover of all time. Beautiful, beautiful Ladies. Every single one of ‘em. Though I especially liked Joni. So sad she’s not with us anymore 😔 Rest In Power Joni 🌹
Wonderful to see Joni (RIP) and Debbie, loved this group as a child. Very nice to hear the respect and the gratitude they had for Niles and Bernard. Chic and Sister Sledge.. Magic! 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵
Met Joni at the Afrikan/Afrikan-American Summit in Zimbabwe back in '97! Bunch of dignitaries, activist and politicians there. I saw this sista and asked aren't you Joni Sledge. Forget all of those others - i'm chillin' with you! I had just made my sister this Sista Sledge (her favorite group) compilation tape like a week before and was telling joni about it and so many other things. We talked about Bernard Edwards death in Japan too. Beautiful sista and spirit.
I just heard about Joni & it's so ironic that yesterday around after I got home from work I started spring cleaning & listened to to the entire All American Girls & Love Somebody Today enjoying myself cleaning to the Discobeat not knowing that Joni had passed away very sad to hear about her yet I reached my peak with her Rip Joni
Devin Summer I had been listening to "Lost In Music" for a few months now. I never knew Joni sang lead (wasn't the biggest fan of the group due to the fact that they were before my time) and I always assumed Kathy sang lead. A couple of days ago I heard Joni passed....so sad cause they were a bad group. I grew up with Spice Girls, TLC and Destiny's Child but groups like Sister Sledge was BADD...
Luckey F. Starr Hey Luckey I was born in 1979 & through my parents is where my love for all things Disco comes from. My entire life my taste in music was never in line with what my peers were listening too & I didn't care while they all were blasting hip hop I blasted my Disco & to this day I still. Luckey it's good to march to your own beat & I hope you continue to discover the classics. MANY OF THE ARTISTS OF TODAY ARE DISPOSALBLE WHO WONT LEAVE MUCH OF MARK AFTER THEY ARE GONE,but Joni left her mark and we will always have the music check out her sing Reach your peak. If you like Sister Sledge you'll love The Ritchie Family.Luckey do me a favor & check out these songs by them Give me a break, Bad reputation, I feel Disco good,Put your feet to the beat and plz let me know what you think
Devin Summer bet. I'm looking them up. Never heard of them. All three members were replaced...wow...Joni was so special. I wish I would gotten to know her.
Love these interview bits on the back stories. Just a shame music tastes has changed so much over the years. Love Sister Sledge & still listen to their great music. 🎉🎉
I often thought more rockers should have worked with Nile Rodgers. David Bowie did but it is to bad that other artists like Peter Wolf of J Geils Band and Mick Jagger and the Stones did not. Nile is a genius and has a knack for bringing out his artists in their full artistic glory.
Loved going up to Bernard RIP home in CT during halloween parties he would throw every year...We talked about the industry and he busted out his new album at the time called CHICISM..told him my opinion he was worried about it being a hit.. KoooooooooL kat... jb
Bernard Edwards was ahead of time as a bass player and a perfectionist. Which can make him hard to understand and difficult to work with… Yes ladies, Niles, Bernard and Tony personified rhythm like no other three musicians then or now..
Joni said she didn't know if there was as great a team of producers as good as Nile and Bernard. How about Gamble & Huff; Holland & Dozier; Ashford & Simpson, Jam & Lewis. But I guess she didn't work with any one them so wouldn't know.
The music that Bernard Edward's and Nile Rogers produced for Chic and Sledge was beyond extraordinary!!Great music back then late 70s early 80s

There was also Diana Ross.

'I'm Thinking of You' is one if not my favorite song, thanks to Rodgers and Edwards. The intro is second to absolutely none. A piece of art.
daflalo yep. And Bernard, as always, kicked ass on it.
That's my favorite song of theirs. Gives me chills. The synergy was incredible.
Wonderful to see Joni (RIP) and Debbie, loved this group as a child. Very nice to hear the respect and the gratitude they had for Niles and Bernard. Chic and Sister Sledge.. Magic! 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵
Great interview. Across ALL genres of music, I have not heard a better BASS/GUITAR duo than Bernard and Nile. Period.
Beautiful Ladies. Great stories. Chic & Sister Sledge - Great Combination!!!
RIP to another legend 😪
Owww they still so beautiful !!! Oww !!! So nice to see them
I love the way Debbie looks! Always had that girl next door look! My Lady Egyptian!!
True thoughts from these incredible beautiful ladies on Bernard and Niles. These women can sing I mean Sang! No questions or comments about it.
Something about Philly, these sistas just brilliant, beautiful and intelligent. Jill Scott, Kindred the Family Soul...all Philly!
Agree 100% Philly has a feel for good talent, good music & good singers
Philly family soul, Like a big village of brotherly sisterly love.
Joni you will always be remembered as a kind person and deeply miss rest in pease
Thanks GOD for the Sister Sledge! 😍
