I see too many Soldier players doing that. One of the meanest tricks you can do is firing just a little bit slower than cooldown, but not so slowly that they can start reacting rather than predicting - I've got several hundred hours on Pyro and still don't hit those that consistently. Also, surprised you didn't bring up the Beggar's. I think reflecting 2 beggar's rockets at once is possible, since airblast hitbox is so long. One rocket a bit behind the pyro, and another rocket is right on the front edge of airblast. If pyro angles the hitbox to the side, and soldier is firing from slight elevation, that should be doable.

This is a very good video. Thanks for making it. Id recommend jump maps to get better at solider as you learn mobility and the speed of rockets with sync. They are also immensly fun and the closest thing to a single player game tf2 has to offer. The maps, jumps and difficulty varies. The community is friendly. Also play ever 9 classes. Soldiers aim relies a lot on prediction. Knowing the best move to counter when playing the other class will teach you prediction. Great video and fun tips! Thanks

But I would love to see you cover this topic with Shotgun and Banners soldiers. I like playing support/pocket soldier a lot and those weapons can really change up the game.
I watched this video since i have roughly 250 hours played on Soldier alone and he is by far my favourite class is any game let alone just TF2 and i must say the advice given here is absolutely solid, Soldier is the definition of a class that is easy to pickup but hard to master.
as a spy main I 100% agree that soldier is a good counter to spy. And unlike pyro he actually feels fair to die to. (90%of the time) Also deadlyness of a spy (imo) isn't really about how good him or the enemy team is but moreso about how good is his team compared to the other team. You can have good by casual standards team but if they're fighting froyotech even a 10 hour spy can get the job done. Great video btw
As a someone who plays spy often, soldier it's the best class at catching invisible fleeting spies short of pyro, but even then he isn't good, as a soldier you have to hit splash 3 times in a row and the spy has to only successfully juke you once to force you to have to guess at random where he went, it's the same for a demo, as a spy you should be able to escape a 1v1 whilst going invisible consistently if you know how to mind game, juke and surf damage, you are literally invisible after all. (unless you're in an enclosed space, or got jared by his teamate then yeah, you're dead.)
Dear scarybroccoli, This video is an absolute masterpiece for both beginners and veterans on how to deal with each encounters by instinct rather than sniffing glue and eating zaza whilst you play Beggar's Bazooka Soldier with a Markiplier and ManTreadmilWork And i'd like for you to make another video on how to FIGHT 9 mercenaries as the Mad Cap and WIN Your truest, Random Person stumbling on your video
Getting adept at shotgun has a major perk of completely befuddling certain pyros in a 1v1. It's a rare occurrence but you may witness some players frantically backpedaling whilst right clicking at your secondary.
Reminder that the reserve shooter literally gives you free mini-crits for hitting aerial enemies, meaning you can kill most classes in the game without needing to use more than 2 rockets if you time and aim right.
Funny how many people point out that soldier has a low skill floor and then either put aside or completely ignore the rocket jumping aspect which is among the highest skill ceiling things in this game by far. Soldier also has the most skill intensive subclass in trolldier. There are soldiers who can't fight well at all but can bust out a t6 jump map with impressive speed. Conversely there are soldiers who probably couldn't even do a t3 jump map and go godlike in pubs. Combining these two aspects of the class make his skill ceiling unbelievably high.
No one in their right mind rocket jump 6 times in a row, you only see that in jumping servers cuz you don’t lose health there. At best you’ll see 3-4 times by competitive players, because they’re already well aware of the map structure and have a route to health packs. You don’t wanna be like LazyPurple, lmao.
As a scout main, I find myself having a really hard time dealing with soldiers especially in close ranges. Their health pool and splash damage make it difficult at times to get the kill before they kill me.
Back when I used to play Spy I always found the hardest time dealing with Soldier. Pyro was honestly not even close. Now that I play a lot more Soldier and Pyro I still think Soldier is way better at dealing with Spy than Pyro. The splash radius on rockets is just so amazingly generous for tracking cloaked spies and has a far greater effective range than Pyro does against Spy.
I kinda disagree. Soldier can counter every class, depending on the game and skill of the enemies. (Strong pyros can easily counter soldiers). Also, soldier has probably one of the lowest skill floors in the game, as rockets are easily understandable and fairly easy to hit for beginner players (Soldier is one of my lower played classes, but I can still do very well at it lol). Though I agree his skill ceiling is very high, like all the other classes.
@@redude08 highest skill ceiling is also bait, most of soldier's rocket jumping can be practiced anytime. Practicing spy is way harder and much more punishable and less forgiving than soldier's tanky ass health with weapons so good that its better than 1 class alone
As a god tier gunspy myself (stock revolver enjoyer), I rarely go for fights against soldiers unless they're somewhere below like 140 health or I'm at such a range that the soldier cannot do anything about me peppering them for 21 repeatedly. 150+ health is just a very hard threshold for spy to hit when he can get 2-3 shot. So a good gunspy will avoid fighting in this disadvantage unless they're sure they'll get away with it, so take note of that and be careful if they are engaging during these times. There might be a trap waiting for you of some sort if you bomb. I would say Soldier and Scout are probably gunspy's 2 hardest matchups, so if you've got the health for it, bait out a dead ringer and then give chase to wherever you think they'll reposition and just outdamage them. You might be at critical health but the spy should be absolutely dead as long as you very aggressively push into them post DR decloak, similar to fighting a demoman really. Now of course, if the spy is positioned well enough, a few revolver shots might be enough to ruin your momentum when bombing, so try to stay out of the sightline when trying this until the last possible moment. I apply this knowledge when fighting good gunspies (rare) while I play soldier and it gives very good results. Pop the DR, chase, finish them off if possible
Condensed down to how 16% of the casual soldiers will need the full video. 1. Have high ground 2. Sit on health pack 3. Use corners for cheese splash damage 4. Use corners to annoy the f out of heavies. 5. Spam engi nests 6. Avoid the sniper areas. 7. If you get to a light class, just shoot the floor aim not required. 8. Lol when you trade even when you know you could have played better. 9. Don't ever use the melee. 10. Rocket jump away the moment you know you don't have the clip size for a bombing.
12:20 When a pyro is like this I always walk towards them and they get so confused until they airblast me to gain some space and THEN I shoot a rocket. 15:50 Just you wait, one day or one decade sooner or later heavy will get a gun that allows him to be on equal footing when corner peaking and then yall will be in trouble. Thankfully Team Fortress 2 Classic gives him an artillery cannon.
...as a "sentient" engineer player, I don't use wrangler because it's ass to play against. Instead I prefer SC as it allows me to 1v1 soldiers and demos with some consistency even when I don't have a turret. Also great for protecting turret and teammates, and for catching spies, and for obscuring head hitbox a bit as a (copious) defence against a sniper. Oh and there's a jumping tech with it but it's niche.
This might be a controversial opinion, but I’ve actually seen this happen. Is that scouts are not very good against the liberty launcher sure it will take an extra rocket to kill them, but every person has built muscle memory around dodging stock and the direct hit. No one anticipates the liberty launcher, and because it breaks muscle memory every time I have gone into a matchup against a very competent scout. I have won about 90% of my matchups. This also works well against Pyro since they have built the exact same muscle memory about for reflecting
Not gonna lie, I had a horrible night playing because every single time I was being killed by nothing but scouts and Kunai spies. I'm genuinely here out of spite and desperation
How do you get rid of soldier’s hand when using the penis cannon? I use weapon fov 90, and his hand is juuust out of frame. Haven’t used the original because of that annoyance.
Nice vid very informative I though I will say that in the pyro section you said close range rockets are impossible to reflect this is false sure it's very skill dependent but false none the less. Everything else in this video is right on the money really that was the only outlier.
I dont know exactly what I said but what I meant was: close range rockets are impossible to reaction reflect, the pyro has to predict when the soldier is going to fire to reflect the rocket.
How to win every fight against EVERY class as Soldier 1) Equip Gunboats or Concheror 1b) (Optional) Activate Conch 2) Rocket jump in 3) Spam rockets at feets until everything die 4) Rocket jump to a healthpack 5) Rinse and repeat It's Soldier. Not Engi, Spy, Pyro, Sniper or Medic. There's no difficulty playing Soldier beyond learning to rocket jump. Unlocks removes any an all problems this class could have.
Wait you are telling me if you ignore the most skill expressive and intensive movement option in the game, a core aspect of the class, it becomes less hard than other classes with no skilled movement? How can this possibly be???
@@Schtoples "There's no difficulty playing Soldier beyond learning to rocket jump." I literally wrote it for you the first time. You don't need rocket jumping DURING a fight. Only to get to or away from a fight. FIGHTING classes as Soldier is easy : spam rockets at feet. That's it. The "difficulty" of Soldier is getting into the position to be able to spam rockets. And that is done with rocket jumping. A "skill" even someone like me manage to hone in barely an afternoon with rocket jump servers. So it REALLY isn't as hard of a skill to master as people pretend. I watched your demoman video yesterday and was looking for similar video for soldier and you literally released it. I'm one lucky soldier man
You will end up in my frag movie, just wait… 8)
Not if you end up in my frag movie first!
4:37 "You need to end the fight before you die" 🤯
I watched this video since i have roughly 250 hours played on Soldier alone and he is by far my favourite class is any game let alone just TF2 and i must say the advice given here is absolutely solid, Soldier is the definition of a class that is easy to pickup but hard to master.
5:50 omg had to do a double take, I’m the confused medic!
as a spy main I 100% agree that soldier is a good counter to spy.
And unlike pyro he actually feels fair to die to. (90%of the time)
Also deadlyness of a spy (imo) isn't really about how good him or the enemy team is but moreso about how good is his team compared to the other team.
You can have good by casual standards team but if they're fighting froyotech even a 10 hour spy can get the job done.
Great video btw
ive been using soldier more recently this is gonna be helpful!
Dear scarybroccoli,
This video is an absolute masterpiece for both beginners and veterans on how to deal with each encounters by instinct rather than sniffing glue and eating zaza whilst you play Beggar's Bazooka Soldier with a Markiplier and ManTreadmilWork
And i'd like for you to make another video on how to FIGHT 9 mercenaries as the Mad Cap and WIN
Your truest, Random Person stumbling on your video
thanks for the help! Now i know how to counter soldier as pyro better, thank you!
Pyro: click mouse 1 slightly less
All the other classes: click mouse 1
soldier dont need a video of how to beat every class 😭
Getting adept at shotgun has a major perk of completely befuddling certain pyros in a 1v1. It's a rare occurrence but you may witness some players frantically backpedaling whilst right clicking at your secondary.
Bug and awesome video bro, your channel is swag
Nice vid.
Gonna wait "how to fight every class as scout (and win)"
uncle jane
Reminder that the reserve shooter literally gives you free mini-crits for hitting aerial enemies, meaning you can kill most classes in the game without needing to use more than 2 rockets if you time and aim right.
Its over, Soldier! I have the high ground!
SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL THEME HELL YEAH!!!
did not expect to run into scarybroccoli on youtube
good vid 👍
This video isn't perfect but it's really easy to understand and I think many newer tf2 players could benefit from watching it.
As a scout main, I find myself having a really hard time dealing with soldiers especially in close ranges. Their health pool and splash damage make it difficult at times to get the kill before they kill me.
oh scarybroccoli, where do i begin
Love the music, reminds me of matchup vids for melee I used to watch
sick video, the edit and music are great
Back when I used to play Spy I always found the hardest time dealing with Soldier. Pyro was honestly not even close. Now that I play a lot more Soldier and Pyro I still think Soldier is way better at dealing with Spy than Pyro. The splash radius on rockets is just so amazingly generous for tracking cloaked spies and has a far greater effective range than Pyro does against Spy.
i find flicking my mouse without shooting at pyros baits out airblasts quite often.
Soldier counters every class, but is one of the highest skill ceiling classes in the game.
Scout and sniper counter soldier
Bait
highest skill floor my ass lmao
Pop the DR, chase, finish them off if possible
yooo the 5 am scarybroccoli upload
Condensed down to how 16% of the casual soldiers will need the full video.
1. Have high ground
2. Sit on health pack
3. Use corners for cheese splash damage
4. Use corners to annoy the f out of heavies.
5. Spam engi nests
6. Avoid the sniper areas.
7. If you get to a light class, just shoot the floor aim not required.
8. Lol when you trade even when you know you could have played better.
9. Don't ever use the melee.
10. Rocket jump away the moment you know you don't have the clip size for a bombing.
How to fight 99% as a soldier
Step 1 shoot ground
Step 2 win
the easiest thing to do when you fight a pyro is just stare at them because sometimes they panic reflect
Tldr; kaboom
18:20 engi mains do that because it takes time to set up so if youre team is losing a point you might as well set up on the next
take a moment to like and subscribe right now
Yeah, if you don’t fight a diamondback spy shot if you are good luck, you would die two shots
Scouts get one hit from buff bannered direct hit
very cool very useful video, what hud do you use?
looks like budhud
I use budhud
0:36 incoming jumpscare
Bro talking like the soldier doesn't kill everything by just existing.
tru solly is too op :( cant plu game
I would much rather play against wrangler than SC but I might be a tiny bit biased... lol
1:48 luckiest spy:
I just wish soldier did more damage! Just a bit more damage, cause my rockets hit for shit sometimes.
This video is both how to beat every class as soldier and how to beat solder as any class
great, now make a "how fight any class as soldier (and lose)"
12:35 i think the reason they dont shoot any flames is so they can see your rocket better
step 1: shoot the ground
step 2: you won
The best load out for pyros and scout is schwicky Schwag and panic attack
Good video but I'd add to use market gardener vs sniper as they basically sit still. Though its good vs most classes.
My goat
Not gonna lie, I had a horrible night playing because every single time I was being killed by nothing but scouts and Kunai spies. I'm genuinely here out of spite and desperation
10:00 if fighting is sure to result in victory then you must fight
inb4 "just shoot 2 rockets at feet"
As a Direct Hit main user, absolutely avoid using it against good scouts.
Shoot at floor. Thats how to play soldier
left click. sometimes press Q.
How do you get rid of soldier’s hand when using the penis cannon? I use weapon fov 90, and his hand is juuust out of frame. Haven’t used the original because of that annoyance.
I think there is a mod somewhere on gamebanana but I don't use it, I think I just have it barely off the screen.
16:25 "dalokus bar"😭😭
10:01 "SUN TZU SAID THAT!!"
Nice vid very informative I though I will say that in the pyro section you said close range rockets are impossible to reflect this is false sure it's very skill dependent but false none the less. Everything else in this video is right on the money really that was the only outlier.
I dont know exactly what I said but what I meant was: close range rockets are impossible to reaction reflect, the pyro has to predict when the soldier is going to fire to reflect the rocket.
the amount of dh rockets I've reflected point blank is way too high
The direct hit is overconfidence melted down and turned into a rocket launcher
@@scarybroccoli but I can hit my rockets!!!!!
How to win every fight against EVERY class as Soldier
1) Equip Gunboats or Concheror
1b) (Optional) Activate Conch
2) Rocket jump in
3) Spam rockets at feets until everything die
4) Rocket jump to a healthpack
5) Rinse and repeat
It's Soldier.
@@Schtoples "There's no difficulty playing Soldier beyond learning to rocket jump."
I literally wrote it for you the first time.
Soldier is almost-skill-void overpowered class, made for people that wanna pretend they're good at the game but can't manage to learn any of the other 8 classes that ACTUALLY have some weaknesses to overcome.
@@drucy.Soldier is objectively one of the best balanced classes in all of gaming, you’re either extremely salty of haven’t played any game in recent 10 years other than TF2. You don’t need to even look that far, if you want to see an ACTUAL overpowered soldier, Overwatch just now has extreme Pharah meta, where she is literally a win condition, even in pubs. Is soldier a win condition in TF even in pubs? No. And no way you can call soldier easiest class in the game when “LMB is skill” Heavy exists.
@@ilyakusenco8151
"Is soldier a win condition in TF even in pubs? No."
Actually yes, it is. Team-stacking Soldiers is a strategy that works 99.99% of time.
There's a reason why 6s teams have TWO Soldiers at all time and them being the most game-defining class of Competitive (Arguably more than Medic. Arguably.)
"“LMB is skill” Heavy exists."
Heavy need situationnal awareness to not die to Snipers and Spies, and the tracking required to consistantly land shot do require regular training.
"Soldier is objectively one of the best balanced classes in all of gaming,"
HAH, the not-at-all biased take of a Soldier main who think their opinion is a fact.
Soldier has :
- Tank-level of hp
- Absurdly immense, easy-to-learn, low-cost mobility (said cost can even be reduced further)
- High consistant damage with VERY forgiving splash damage basically eliminating the need for precise aiming
- Unlocks that boost his survivability by an enormous amount... as if he needed it.
No. Soldier is NOT balanced at all.
He offers TOO MUCH for how little skill it takes to play him.
How many hours do you have on the game dawg
Scarybroccoli ? Wanna eat brocoli ?😊
Scout can be either the easiest or hardest
bros next video is a tutorial on walking
Wow uncle dan
No mention of the battallions backup vs sniper? I'm like 90% sure that it turns off headshots basically lol. crit immunity.
You gonna cover all the generalist classes, or just the explosive ones?
