The question are 1) Does the game stand on its on in 2024? Definitely. 2) Do you want to know how things (like Alan Wake) connect in RCU? Then yes, game worth replaying all over again. And no, not running through but really playing, paying attention and exploring.
There’s a difference between critique and opinion. This video is the latter. This game, which I never knew existed, I found 3 days ago and completed today. One of the best games I’ve played. And out many games that I’ve played and even haven’t....this game is a surplus gem
I would agree that the launch ability is OP for an introduction so early in the game, it nullifies the abilities that follow. Various other criticisms are also valid - the underwhelming mod and weapon forms, pointless rewards on those timed missions. The strengths however are SO strong that they overshadow the weaknesses. Superb combat, superb voice work and characters, sound design, intrigue and "show don't tell" storytelling. This game does NOT treat you as an idiot as far too many modern games do. Not in my top 10 games of all time but not that far off, top 20 for sure.
The Steam Deck got me back into gaming as a middle aged man with kids. Since my last platform was the NES, I love videos like this that fill in the last 30 years of gaming for me.

Can't get a straight answer to this question no matter where I look: Is this game playable on the base PS4 in 2023 - in other words, are the frame-rate issues still really bad, or should I just wait until I finally get a PS5?
Just played this over the last few days. I thought the story was brilliant and weird and I loved it. It's "lost room" "dharma initiative" and"black rainbow" all mixed in. There are things that could be improved like the repetitive battles. I personally play rpgs for the story not the combat. So I would like a way to reduce the incessant combat every time I enter a space (even when recently cleared). If you like a good weird story and don't want a game where you just shoot and clear and level up and shoot. Then I think this game is for you. If you instead like relying on shooting and want big long battles and don't want to learn the story, then pass. Different people want different things in a game. This is why reviews should be taken as a personal opinion. It may or may not be your experience.
The story was awful, it actually never did something interesting with its ideas. Ooooo killer fridge? YOU DONT GET TO SEE A KILLER FRIDGE YOU HAVE A GENERIC BOSS FIGHT WITH A BIG MONSTER TWICE. It doesnt do anything interesting with its ideas, it copied SCP and various creepy pastas through the lore but PUT NONE OF IT IN THE GAME.
I have a 3080 RTX and a 1440p monitor with 165 Hz refresh rate. I can play the game at max graphics (including ultra Ray Tracing) and pull about 85-100 fps. My problem is everytime I enter a live action video or cutscene, I get major screen tearing and studders (vsync on/off doesn't change anything). Are the cutscenes only optimized for 60fps? I don't see an fps limiter in the game settings either. Is anyone else having this problem? Edit: I've noticed most games (especially console ports) will let you play at the highest fps possible but limit cutscenes to 30 or 60 fps, Control doesn't do that and it's a little older so that's why I think that's my problem, but idk for sure.
@7:00 -- *These aren't fair criticisms.* These are very strong abilities. How and when you decide to use them should be a compromise and somewhat risky for the reward of using them. Where's the fun in hiding behind a 10ft wide shield of concrete AND being able to dispatch enemies at no risk? How quickly would the level be over if you could just instantly possess enemies on-sight? There has to be a balance between offensive/ defensive tactics. _C'mon, man!_
If I can finish the game without using the ability once (after finishing the tutorial for the ability), then there’s something fundamentally wrong with it. Progressing through a game while unlocking new abilities, usually means you’ll be facing new enemies where the player HAS to use that ability to beat them, making it feel like a worthwhile and necessary ability. There’s virtually no necessity placed on the shield or seize abilities.
@@Respawnedgaming have to agree , the combat felt just lacking in this game for me , i would say youre points are pretty fair , well done review btw ! =)
I've played over this about 4 times now and what keeps bringing me back is the architecture. There's a few games regarded as subpar that I absolutely adore because of the architecture and level design alone and this game is definitely one of them. (But this game is also not subpar don't get me wrong) You mentioned that some abilities unlocked sort of force you to slow down the gameplay which you put down as a negative and I found that interesting because I kid you not: this is the first game I've ever played where I walked through the entire game. Literally walked. If I ran it was an accident 😂. It just made me feel more immersed because here I was, this absolute badass with unstoppable force walking menacingly towards what will soon become a victim as I pick up a piece of concrete on the way before launching it at my enemy without losing a step once 😅
Dear Respawned, i wanted to share my expierience for that you might get a new perspective. - I actually started playing Control again, as my first playthrough was kinda rough on a GTX960 back then. My old system could run on low to mid settings it but now i‘m noticing what i actually missed. Recently got myself a top tier RTX Card and it‘s just fantastic from a visual and gameplay standpoint for me now. [Visuals:] It obviously makes intense use of raytracing. Often a bit too much, but overall i really love to see all those lights/movements/powers being realisticallx reflected on surfaces. It really carries the supernatural vibe for me. I understand your opinion about the architecture and environment design. I‘m kinda surveying it from the perspective, that the boring office buildings and hallways actually create the contrast to the more more bended, visually astonishing areas. If the overall areas would be colourful, exiting and interesting it would maybe not have that effect, as there‘d be not so much of a contrast to the paranormal events. Also the overall greyscale makes the enemies stand out and be easily recognisable in the whole chaos. [Gameplay:] This is where i feel the biggest difference between playing with 20-30 FPS and running it completely fluently. It‘s just so satisfying being so nimble and yet to destructive with the different powers, throwing stuff at peoples heads, throwing people at stuff and so on. As you said you CAN play through the game only using the telekinetic power but where the game isn‘t giving you a lot of option you can make your own! My playstyle is going full close range and using the Shield Dash for defensive movement. You could also try only mainly using and maxing your melee attack to spice the difficulty up. It can be really fun. [Overall] I‘m really enjoying my second playthrough at the moment and must say it‘s one of the best triple A game i‘ve ever played. It makes you feel like a superhero without labelling it as that. For my taste Control definately scratches the itch i always wanted to play in videogames.
That’s awesome man! It’s not my cup of tea but I can completely see it scratching plenty of itches, like it scratches yours! Hope you’re enjoying your new RTX setup too and thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate it 👍
I loved Control, but it was just shy of being great to me. The combat was super cool but peaked early, as you said, and the skill tree felt really uninspired. Just think with all this craziness and weirdness where they could have gone with it...an ability that allows you to morph the room...teleportation... There are tons of cool things they could have done with it that would have fit the theme and vibe better. Instead we get damage buffs and such. The combat got repetitious when trying to explore and the ending was a big fat pile of disappointment. I disagree about the architecture though. The flat gray modern office building is such a contrast to what goes on in there, it totally worked for me. And the game gave me serious 90's X-Files vibes, which is a huge plus in my book! I feel like Remedy have completely changed over the years. At first they took a generic story like Max Payne and made it insanely fun, and now they have incredible stories like Quantum Break and Control but made them boring.
I agree. Those slow motion diving mechanics in Max Payne were pretty revolutionary for the times!
@@Respawnedgaming Maxpayne 3 really felt like The peak for TPS games after that they really went down hill. Killing Humans is always more fun than, random werid monster demon or whatever they are in control.
Control is fn awesome. Way more fun then max Payne 3 imo.
I enjoyed it

Pretty adverage game overall a forgetable game. Really hope the Maxpayne remakes are good hope they use the same engine as Maxpayne 3.
