Any law enforcement officer who KNOWS someone is guilty pretty much before the investigation has started and who did not see the crime in progress in person or on CCTV footage is useless at their job and should resign immediately. He probably had a very strong suspicion, but let's face it: in most cases the murderer is the partner or an ex-partner of the victim, so those suspicions don't mean much either. Besides, the man hasn't been convicted yet, so even at this point saying you KNOW is technically slander.

Also to sadly add, the amount of betrayal and taking all those knife jabs to her body. Which also had to be a big clue for the police that when a victim gets stabbed to death that it's most likely the other lover, it's personal and intimate.

Yay! Saturday vid!!!!!! I was watching old vids at work, and my IT guy came up behind my desk like, "I watch him all the time while I'm working." So you're very popular in US office settings, apparently.
This was like 25 minutes from where I live. The local subreddit figured this out immediately. It's really cool to see the details now, but most of this wasn't made available at the time. But, just knowing the people involved, everyone's money was on "affair with the au pair." What was crazy was how long it took for the arrests. Especially the dude's. When the au pair got arrested, we were all expecting the husband to be right behind her. Crazy that it took a full year.
I think the cops knew that the husband behind the murder plot, but they needed something like a confession, or some definitive evidence. Everything they had was circumstantial (timelines not making sense, people acting out of character), so I personally believe they have been trying to work the au pair to get her to confess the husband's role.
@@jennyng2994I think the forensic analysis can take some time also, putting together bloodsplatters and signs of how people have moved about the bodies and around. I think they figured rather immediately that the au-pair's demeanor was redundant, excessive panting and distancing at the same time, i.e. full of sh*t.
Wow I’ve been watching you for years but have only just noticed how many subscribers you’ve now got ?!! Over two million is absolutely amazing for a true crime channel, well done , you are very engaging
It's called "Love" or scientifically a chemical imbalance of the brain. Lol There's a saying love is blind or love makes you stupid!!! These are the extreme examples!!!!
This was located relatively close to my family and as soon as the police released information that the au pair and husband were the ones who called/survived, I already knew this was going to be some sort of love triangle. Thanks for the video, Mike!! I wanted to hear more on this story for a while!
As soon as I heard she was out the door with a 4 year old to go to the zoo before 7 in the morning, I knew something was off. Anyways, thanks for the vid! WTF?! She likely to do zero time???! Uneffingbelievable!
She could have been taking the kid for breakfast first. I’m not saying she didn’t do it, but things “being out of the ordinary” is actually very ordinary.
My thought exactly. What is the rush to leave the house so early in the morning with such a young child only to go to the zoo? Never heard of that in my entire life unless the said zoo was a 4 hours' drive away. None of this makes sense right from the start... I think that Mum was unalived shortly before the time au pair "left for the trip". Rip Christine and Joseph.
This is truly tragic and despicable on different levels- cheating on his wife in their own home, then frames his wife while disrespecting her by putting her on a site like that before killing her, framing an innocent man before killing him, and then has the audacity to move the lover into their bed, oh and all while their four year old daughter is in the home!! I’ve seen a lot of true crime affair cases driven by lust, jealousy, selfishness, and emotional manipulation but damn, this is one of the worst. I hope they both live out nightmare scenarios in prison everyday for the rest of their lives.
Yeah the whole story and timeline were ridiculous. She sees a stranger attack her employer so she calls the husband instead of the cops? And then he's giving the code to the gun safe to the nanny while his wife is being stabbed--and the whole time this is supposedly going on, the intruder stays put, just stabbing and spanking away? We have a lot of law enforcement in my family and I've heard it said time and again most criminals are criminals because they're stupid.
Thanks for making sense of this case. I saw a few news stories about it but never could unite figure out what the heck happened. That poor woman. Things like this happen daily, but sometimes I still cant believe how crazy and evil people can be.
Um, isn't 7am a bit early to go to the zoo? My local zoo opens at 10am! Also, the idea that a trained law enforcement officer would instruct his au pair to go grab another gun to help him shoot the intruder is so ridiculous it's beyond laughable.
@@AlbanwinterShe was likely “planning” to go to the national zoo which opens at 8 AM and it’s probably 50 mins away. Idk who the hell would go that early with DC traffic though
I have learned from watching many police interview analysis videos, that people who start giving all kinds of long winded explanations and unecessary details without even being asked are usually guilty. Verbal diarrhea is a dead give away. The dry eyes crying is bad too.
Herndon is for people who can not only afford McMansions and nubile au pairs but also buy top-of-the-line defense attorneys. Ain’t nothing quaint about that money-soaked area.
Are the people in the story born with wealth? A nurse and an IRS agent don't typically have fancy salaries (if the motive could have a financial aspect less visible).
My belief about these rich people that hire sexy au pairs to live with them is that it is basically a sexual arrangement more often than it isn't. I mean, how naive would you have to be to think a busty Brazilian woman could come live in your house and that your husband wouldn't have sex with her, now in the 2020s in the West? I figure the wife was fine with them having sex and probably had threesomes with them but just didn't expect her husband to catch feelings for the au pair, and obviously she wouldn't expect to be murdered. I just have trouble believing these rich people that go out of their way to bring younger women under their roofs actually are totally blindsided when the husbands sleep with these women. I think that's just part of the deal, to spice up the marriage. I mean, do you really need your maid to live with you? Does she really need to be a busty Brazilian woman? And the couple had fetlife accounts it sounds like, so it all lines up. I think the older generations just don't know how common swinging has become now and assume it was all behind the wife's back, but nah, she definitely knew, you'd have to be totally blind not to know. I think she just didn't know how far it went.
Maybe she could provide much evidence when she figured that she would be pretty much a hostage and risk be done away with herself at some time? But she will likely be declared a persona non grata and sent back to Brazil.
Her charges are being brought down from murder to manslaughter. Her plea deal, requiring testimony, will be shortened jail time. She'll be given credit for time served since Mike said she was arrested September 2023 and the husband's trial date is set for March 2025 she'll have that time credited as served. I don't know for sure Virginia's sentencing guidelines for manslaughter (most states have an average low end term of as little as 7 years). Unfortunately, (using 7 years as an example) 7 yrs would in a lot of times break down to 4-5yrs served then remainder on probation. Since she's got a plea & a non-citizen they may credit her time served after she testifies and the trial is complete then deport her. This is the Justice system 🤷🏽♀️
It's just a fact of life, women get more lenient sentences for the same crimes, on average. I think it would be a good idea to start using sophisticated AI programs instead of laughably biased and fallible judges and juries, at least someday, when the technology is advanced enough. There is an extreme lookism bias in courtrooms, too. Conventionally attractive people, and conventionally attractive women especially, are relatively unlikely to face real justice for their crimes, compared to plain people or particularly compared to ugly men. Look through any given prison population and you will notice that the men inside tend to be not exactly soft on the eyes.

The fake gasping for air when talking always tells on them. They always overdo that. LOLOL When one lacks empathy, emotional distress is so hard to fake. OMG, if somebody made a compilation of these fakers, that would be such a fun to watch. :D
Yup. There is such a thing as panicking/hyperventilating, but when you're out of danger and actively trying to tell a story, you'll be (overall) trying to calm yourself and breathe slower. Sometimes you might have to ask for a break to collect yourself, but you'll generally be more collected after you take a minute, not at a steady "same level of panic no matter what" level for hours after.
@@gingerweasel2 exactly this. It was already explained by a professional crime investigator, that the hyperventilation, when natural, tends to go away within a few mins naturally. (The body does that to prevent fainting and other unpleasant side effects.) And the person usually tries to calm down first and then speak or take breaks to relax and then speak. But if the hyperventilation and gasping for air keeps occurring for a long time, or it comes on and off, it is rather faked. Also, when the voice becomes very high-pitched and the person keeps gasping for air after each and every syllable... Just like her. We see that she forgot gasping for air a few times when answering questions to the cop, then reminded herself and went back to the fake gasping. LOL. I felt second hand embarrassment for her. She made herself look suspicious with this behavior.
Those flailing hands remind me of the hyperventilating Chasey Poynter--just over the top bad acting. This is obviously a girl trying to better herself through sex and making moves on the man of the house. Meanwhile, she is ungrateful tothe kindly wife that brought her in and gave her opportunities that would never exist for her in Brazil.

I'm honestly shocked by how Juliana's character turned from a 'dream-come-true' au pair to being involved in this horrific crime. It’s fascinating how sometimes the people we trust the most can have the darkest secrets. Amazing breakdown of the story, Mike!
Yeah I noticed the houses shown are pretty boring and very close together, and at least in the immediate area of the incident, no big old trees; they look like they were planted when the homes were built. My cousins live in Bethesda and their area is gorgeous.
I loved hearing the original music in the opening of the video. I thought I had clicked on an old video for a second, but no, it's a new one with the old school opening.
Right! No tears, the fake shake that'd come & go then when she thought the cop told her to go w the other she quickly got wide-eyed & said no. C'mon, the Au Pair? How cliché.
Completely irrelevant to the story, but hearing the newscaster say "a canine dog" made my ears perk up. Do they sometimes use feline dogs? Or maybe bovine dogs aka bulldogs? As always, thanks for the video, Mike. I've been watching and listening for quite some time, and it's always good to see a new episode come out!
My ex is an nbc reporter and anchor. He’s actually very good, a better reporter than anchor actually, but his most recent station assignment hired a lot of new journalism graduates and he’d get so frustrated with them - a couple of them were good but most were absolutely awful. Canine dog would’ve totally been one of their choices of wording. I don’t watch any news anymore as it sickens me how bad it’s becoming.
@jaybee4118 There's not one way to react but surely it's no more than perhaps a few handful but oddly enough those who fake it does it in a very similar way and are typically recognised as fakers quite immediately for people are not as unique as we often wish to believe, we are more alike than not. For instance they are waving their arms and not shaking as a neurological reaction of severe stress etc. Or do seriously believe that reactions that are to a significantly determined by the automatic nervous system aside of experience and upbringing is so highly individualistic that "everyone is different" so there would be like 334.9 million different reactions to shock? If that belief is widespread is no wonder that the level of chronich disease is so high in a modern country like USA. An experienced interrogator standing close enough can even spot the pulse rate in your jugular (unless you're very obese) to recognise if you're more stressed by them questioning you.
Love you getting back to your old style.❤❤❤I always loved the black background and you appearing out of the smoke curl at the beginning … and your music, of course.

Seriously her high school sweetheart betraying her for some ugly Brazilian. She’s not even a hot Brazilian 😢
Also to sadly add, the amount of betrayal and taking all those knife jabs to her body. Which also had to be a big clue for the police that when a victim gets stabbed to death that it's most likely the other lover, it's personal and intimate.
Hope there is a loving family member who has taken the young daughter into their home so she can recover and gain back a happy life.

Doubt that . He had a few options to make himself appear more guilty
These poor people that are murdered by their spouses. It’s so selfish and evil. I feel so sad for the children.
They're not always poor, innocent people. Sometimes they are
Yay! Saturday vid!!!!!! I was watching old vids at work, and my IT guy came up behind my desk like, "I watch him all the time while I'm working." So you're very popular in US office settings, apparently.
Original intro music, the black backdrop and a Friday upload! Oh the nostalgia 😅❤ we love you Mike.
I think it's an old video that's uploaded now for some reason.
This was like 25 minutes from where I live. The local subreddit figured this out immediately. It's really cool to see the details now, but most of this wasn't made available at the time. But, just knowing the people involved, everyone's money was on "affair with the au pair."
What was crazy was how long it took for the arrests.
Smart investigators play the long game. Better to gather sufficient evidence rather than rush to make an arrest and blow the whole case.
Nooo, they want the most evidence for the most charges
Well, that's life... no?
Wow I’ve been watching you for years but have only just noticed how many subscribers you’ve now got ?!! Over two million is absolutely amazing for a true crime channel, well done , you are very engaging
That poor little girl. No mom or dad. And killing the mom while their daughter is in the house. Dreadful person.
I don’t understand how one parent can do that either. It takes both parents away from the children.
Why do they always think they can get away with this
Many home wreckers get away...
We only hear about the ones that get caught. Imagine the amount of people that don’t ever get caught, and are acting like a victim. 😳
Check your local crime data for the number of unsolved murders and you will be shocked
@@lisalallythis is just a conspiracy though. Mostly exaggerated
Right!! Who goes to work at the zoo to wake up the animals at 6am so all the kids can come in by 7am…. 🤦♀️
That's what I thought too. Anyone who has kids knows that doesn't happen.
@@jenniferwebb4628they probably start at that time anyway.
THANK YOU for returning to this old format!!! Glad to have a single episode instead of a list. Appreciate you Mike.

I knew NOTHING about this case but from how she was recounting the events and acting... I said out loud "oooh she's lying"😂

Well, it is in the title of the video ...

He wasn’t a cop just a federal IRS officer
I know! I think if I was the cop taking her statement I would have raised an eyebrow and said "Were you driving to a zoo in another state?"
@@AlbanwinterShe was likely “planning” to go to the national zoo which opens at 8 AM and it’s probably 50 mins away. Idk who the hell would go that early with DC traffic though
I had the same thought... it was the moment I knew she was guilty... after of course, the first clue of the video title "Kill Au Pair"

Whoa, Mike's past 2 million subs now? Awesome!
Yeah it’s not exactly the simple life, there’s 1 million+ people in that county.
@@richardcranium5801 nothing is wrong with that but it is mostly that everything is wrong with people who are rich.

I love your "life insurance" bit and it cracks me up with laughter every time, even when the story is so tragic. you are a funny fella Mike.
Really the scariest part of this is they were willing to frame an innocent stranger, who could’ve been anyone… what??
How can she do zero time? I understand cutting deals, but this is ridiculous!
Maybe she could provide much evidence when she figured that she would be pretty much a hostage and risk be done away with herself at some time?
But she will likely be declared a persona non grata and sent back to Brazil.
@@johannas.l.brushane2518Looking into the case, I think they just deported her and she became somebody else's problem.
This is the Justice system 🤷🏽♀️
after the trail in march she will be deported
It's just a fact of life, women get more lenient sentences for the same crimes, on average. I think it would be a good idea to start using sophisticated AI programs instead of laughably biased and fallible judges and juries, at least someday, when the technology is advanced enough. There is an extreme lookism bias in courtrooms, too. Conventionally attractive people, and conventionally attractive women especially, are relatively unlikely to face real justice for their crimes, compared to plain people or particularly compared to ugly men. Look through any given prison population and you will notice that the men inside tend to be not exactly soft on the eyes.
Boy those two were sloppy. I can't believe she will get away with no time for testifying against her boyfriend!
The pictures of the au pair were very eye opening!!

(The body does that to prevent fainting and other unpleasant side effects.)
And the person usually tries to calm down first and then speak or take breaks to relax and then speak.
Check out the reetv documentaries channel. They have a “crocodile tears” series. It shows a bunch of highly publicized clips from people later convicted of a horrible crime. Horrible actors, all of them.

All my favorite youtube true crime channels' videos are getting so needlessly bloated. It's nice to have stuff that clocks in at under 30 minutes.

Beautiful wife and daughter, beautiful home, good job, and he threw it all away for that?? Some people are just never happy with what they have.
YESSS. You went back to that older view you had in your earlier vids. Looks awesome. Keep up the good work sir.
I always love the fake "state of shock" people (in this case the nanny) display. You think they would practice that more prior to the "event".
Maybe they do but get it wrong for they get their idea of how a person in shock behaves is from tv-series and films?
Or maybe your assumption of what it looks like isn’t correct? There’s no one way to react. Everyone is different.
