The Underworld was wonderful! One of my goals this year is to finish Casey's backlist (I think she has 4 books and I've read 2 so far; really liked both of them)!
That’s a great goal! I’m only about 40 pages into The Underworld so far, but I’m really enjoying it! I think I have a kindle copy of The Wave, but haven’t read it yet. I’ll have to try to find copies of her other books too.
Thank you so much! That is my hope as well! I’m getting Anna Karenina finished today (hopefully) and then I can start into Moby Dick, I’m really excited to give it a re-read!
Oh, I loved The Thousand Autumns…! It’s about a subject I find interesting. The author lived in Japan for years and his wife is Japanese. They live in Co. Cork Ireland where I live too. I’ve read two books by Jess Kidd and found them charming. She has a way of sneaking in magical things but they feel normal in the book.
I’m happy to hear that you like both of those authors! That’s so neat that you live in the same place. I’m eager to get to The Thousand Autumns… maybe I’ll start over the weekend…
Thanks, Kim! It’s been really wonderful adding more fiction back into my reading life. ☺️ I’m glad I’m not the only one with that takeaway for The Overstory! I’m eager to get into the Mandel and Kidd titles next.
Mitchell's first two novels involve Japan as well. Think i have all his novels on Kindle, but the only one I've read is Slade House, which I really enjoyed. Hoping to get to Netanyahus and Overstory one day.
@@MicahCummins , it's Constance Garnett. When I picked it up at a library sale, I wasn't aware of translation differences. I've since read a little about the different versions and felt I'd be satisfied with the Garnett...mostly because it cost me a $1 !
Oh Micah! I have a recommendation for you... Into The Planet by Jill Heinerth. Fascinating woman. She's a cave diver and who has explored the inside icebergs, which is incredibly dangerous, as you can imagine. Het book was really good!
Overstory was my most frustrating read of last year. It's well-written, and like you, I loved the short story section of the novel, but once the characters started interacting, it became contrived and mawkish. There were a couple of characters that I still liked following, but I found the rest of it to be cloying. I've had The Night Watchman for a while now and am hoping to get to it this year!
Videos from both of us on the same day! Is BookTube blessed in 2024 - or cursed?
Steve Donoghue's return!! 🎉🥳
I would say... it's saved!
Only time will tell…
Anna Karenina is one of my favorite books. So incredible!❤ I definitely will listen to The Night Watchman.
HI,I like your selection of books!
Thank you!
Another great video!
Thank you!
Louise Erdrich is a phenomenal writer. I read her children’s series, “The Birchbark House,” to my daughter and really enjoyed it.
I’ll have to check that out! I’m wanting to read more of her works now after finishing “The Night Watchman.”
@@MicahCummins It’s kind of like a First People’s Little House series. Really good! I am Molly, your mom’s friend 😃.

Enjoy the Netanyahus! It’s a wild ride - very interesting premise and some fabulous chapters that stuck with me.
Thank you! Glad to hear that. I’m excited to give it a read!
I love this so much
Thanks! I’m glad to enjoyed
I love his kind young man from the 18th century vibes
Why thank you!
Happy New Year Micah!
Happy New Year, Todd!
I have a recommendation for you. Into The Deep: A Memoir From the Man Who Found Titanic by Robert D. Ballard. I loved it.
That sounds fascinating! I’ve added it to my reading list. Thank you for the recommendation!
I really enjoyed The History of Love too. It is one of my top 10 books from the Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list.
Oh wow! Well, that’s definitely makes sense based off of what I’ve read of it so far. ☺️
Great video and haul Micah! I haven't started Moby Dick yet either but hope to next week! 🥳

Micah’s getting more into fiction! 😂 Great to see. I love both Mandel and Kidd. Wonderful authors. 😊 Felt the same about The Overstory.

I loved "The Story of Love" You should do an individual review for that book!
I definitely think I will! I’m loving it too!
this is hilarious! I have this problem too! This is a fun haul. I’ve just started Anna Karenina and am in love with it. 😊
Thanks, Renee! 😊 I’m so happy to hear that! Isn’t it wonderful? Which translation are you reading?

There's a book I just got called Chasing Shadows. It's by a biologist who studies great white sharks and he talks about his research
Oh that sounds really good! I might add that to my TBR!
@@MicahCummins Full title is "Chasing Shadows: My Life Tracking the Great White Shark" by Greg Skomal

I’m glad to hear I am not the only one with those thoughts with The Overstory. Hope you enjoy “The Night Watchman” whenever you get to it. 🙂
An "enacted bill" is a law, or you could say federal Indian policy.
Thank you for the explanation, Stan. 🙂
We are used to you wondering off 😅
It’s sort of my trademark at this point, I’m sure. 😂
5th time is the charm? Ha ha.
Wow, you're reading more fiction! What is happening in this crazy world?
I think it must be! Haha, right? I don’t know what’s happening anymore. 😂
Omg you are so cute 🤤
🙂
