When we remodeled our kitchen I stood firm on drawers instead of doors for my lower cabinets. It definitely looks more expensive because it is and the convenience was worth it. I liked that you mentioned aging in place because that is what we intend to do in our house and having drawers is so much easier. No more jumble of Tupperware 😊
One important consideration for kitchen floors--if you actually cook in them--is hardness. Stone and tile floors are murder on your legs and feet. Drop a wineglass and you'll find shards of crystal three rooms over. I would never swap my wood floors for them (plus the wood is gorgeous).
While stone and tile floors look wonderful. As you said, they are horrible on body and glassware but also metal cookware. Drop a jar of jelly on a stone floor and you're scrubbing jelly off the ceiling. Drop on wood or vinyl - it will likely burst but stays floor level. I recently had to remove my 150 yr old wood floors (and floor joists). Because of moisture problems and lack of crawl space, the contractor recommended a slab. NO, NO, NO! I rebuilt with marine grade lumber and had to go with vinyl wood look plank flooring. I'd rather have had wood but sacrifices have to be made when needed. Linoleum or any type of vinyl would be better than stone or tile. Not all was lost. I salvaged as much of the 1.5 in thick, 6 in wide heart pine flooring to use as the island countertop and a farmhouse table (it's a farmhouse).
It's all fun and games until there's a leak from below the sink that you don't notice until it's too late because the wood soaked it. We had to remove 4 square meters of wood floors from the kitchen and put tiles because of this reason. Water and wood floors are a no no for me. (It IS more beautiful, I'll admit that)
I would love a video on designing an overall low-maintenance home that works for full schedules and aging in place. We are currently designing a newly built apartment and want to set things up as low-maintenance as possible for us.
Hello! You might look for information on universal design, which is the concept of designing spaces for all levels of functionality from the beginning, so no costly retrofits as we age! Hope that helps, and good luck with your project!
Yes! Drawers under counters! It's the best thing! I recommend it to everyone!! Also engineered quartz counter tops. They don't stain, are hard-wearing and heat resistant and come in all colours and styles.
My sister redid her kitchen last year. She says the 2 most impactful improvements have been: A. Softclosing (self/silent/closing) hinges on every drawer and door. She says "worth every penny" , "brilliant". she was talked into them, but now says she will never ever go back to ordinary doors. I have to say when I visit they are amazing. Men and women alike seem to love to open and close the "magic" doors and drawers! B. Only drawers (no cupboards) below the benchtops. Combined with the softclose mechanism she says handling heavy items from below is a dream. She's been able to store all her crockery in deep drawers just below the benchtop, which makes it so easy to get at (much better than being in the upper cabinets).
My house is a 700 sf home from the 40’s. The gentleman that lived here was a carpenter. He built the cupboards, solid wood and they’re inset. I love them❤. I really enjoy how you always mention designing for aging at home. Thanks Garret !
I specifically asked for a pull out drawer under my farmhouse sink knowing as I get older that I wasn't going to get on my knees to get something from the back of the drawer and I'm so glad I did that.
Great video, Garrett! I would NEVER have a marble countertop or sink. One spilled bottle of red wine and everything is permanently stained! With all the beautiful quartz and porcelain materials that mimic the look of marble or other natural stone, give me these more durable options every time! I redid my kitchen a couple of years ago, and all my lower cabinets are drawers. I LOVE them, and I can reach everything! Just added new floors and opted for LVP. After years of standing on travertine, I love how much more comfortable and easier to clean the wood look vinyl flooring is. Thank you for all your great tips!!! I never thought about the vent hoods, and you're so right! How about people who have a big wreath on their vent hood? It may look pretty, but all I can think about is the dust and grease collecting in it!!! You always bring practicality with your design tips, Garrett, and I love that!!! 🌻🤗🌻 Colleen
Thanks for sharing Colleen! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. You are right. There are various alternatives for countertops and sinks to suit different likes and usage. 🎃🎃🎃😊😊😊
We remodeled our kitchen about 15 years ago…and I put a ton of time into figuring out function and materials. It was my dream kitchen…and still operates wonderfully. It has held up in material and style pretty well! So very worth the time it takes to figure out the details. At the time, stainless sinks were the only thing being put into homes… but I really wanted the beautiful cast iron sink that coordinated with my colors (a light cream). I am not sorry I did, and we have a prep sink in the island to match. Again, very worth the time it takes to plan to get things you love and are timeless.
I truly appreciate your consistent focus on practicality, usability and safety. As someone in the field of aesthetics, it would be easy to follow form over function. Instead, we can always count on your solid advice based on ergonomics and design for human interaction.😁🖖
I love how you merge practical approach, like maintenance with style. If a space does not function in day to day life, the excitement for the stylish look can fade away easily... btw: We have just finished our kitchen renovation, cannot thank you enough for the videos you have posted😍 sooo helpful!!!
I would love an in depth video about vent hoods and which styles go with which kitchen style. Especially high-end vent hoods. I recently went down a vent hood rabbit hole for our kitchen reno and spent a lot of $ on a custom copper hood that we love. However, it seems that plaster wrapped hoods are very popular. Not that I care, mind you because I LOVE what we got, but a video on vent hoods would be entertaining and informative. 🖤
Spot on about marble countertops. Add wood counter tops to being ugly and getting stains. It is really crazy to have wood around a sink. If someone likes to cook, don't get wood counter tops. I sand and re oil my wood counter top every six months. If I wanted to keep them looking pristine, I would have to sand and re oil every month .
Can you talk about or do you have a video about chef kitchens? Specifically pros & cons of built in double oven/ oven micro combo vs range/ oven unit. On another note, I LOVED my porcelain white farm sink. Thanks!
I cannot agree with you more about replacing lower cabinets with drawers! The difference! Ah, after three years, my back and my knees still sing all four parts of the "Hallelujah Chorus" every. Single. Time. I open a drawer, reach in, and pull out whatever it is I need.
I really appreciate that you consider that kitchens are functional work spaces as well as a space in the home for decoration. And that you appreciate that some things are lower maintenance and better if you are deaiing with chronic illness and aging. All three of us in this household have arthritis in their hands to some degree and bad backs, even in middle age. We have to consider maintenance because whatever we do with decoration, it won't work if whe don't have the spoons to clean it and keep it nice.
Ha! Thanks 🤩! I’m just signing off on final plans on the kitchen cabinets in a new build, and thanks to your video, I just change the lower cabinets from doors to drawers!! Makes total sense, Thank you!! 🥰
New subscriber here. The moment you mentioned about cleaning on top of the cabinet where there is a gap, cleaning the open shelve and cleaning the hood, I agree that additional cleaning is a pain to do. 😊
Thank you for this post. I really wish this had been around before I did my first kitchen renovation. In terms of the kitchen sink, I think the largest, deepest stainless steel single bowl you can fit in your space is very good. You can wash very large items. If you want that double bowl situation, you can buy a large dish pan for under $20 on Amazon. Also keep the corners a bit rounded. The very sharp corners look great, but keeping them clean is a lot of work (I did that and learned the hard way). In terms of cabinet doors, budget also comes into play. Inset doors are gorgeous but more expensive.
Dear Garrett, I have been a subscriber to your channel for some weeks and enjoy each of your videos so much. That is entertainment at its very best and I have learned so much from you. And besides, your lovely personality always shines through and warms my heart. I love that for me. 😊 I am in the process of redecorating our 18-year-old house (no renovation needed), because our daughter has moved out and our son will follow to do so next year. This gives my husband and me the opportunity to use the children’s rooms (I can’t wait) and to refresh the whole place. As I am very interested in interior design (but not very good at it), I really need your support. Thank you so much for the help and sharing your professional knowledge with us. Best wishes from Germany
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Marion! I truly appreciate it. Welcome to the channel. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
I am so glad you recognize that people cook in their kitchens which means there may be grease and cleaning it from wooden vent hoods with intricate carving is one of the rooms of hell. Such great tips! Thank you.
My pleasure Nancy! Thank you for watching, and I’m glad you enjoyed. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 🎃🎃🎃
I had a beautiful granite top and I had chips around the edge of my sink, I can’t imagine having a marble sink. Way too much maintenance. We have moved now and did a granite top again as I love the look, we had almost all drawers last kitchen but this time all the lower cabinets are drawers. Love them. I also mixed metals for our handles and knobs. It looks so good
I know a family who required the kitchen sink to be wiped down every time it was used. It was insanely annoying. “Build out the maintenance” - best advice!
I agree about looking at maintenance of items placed in the kitchen. I don’t want intricate knobs that collect grime and other things that are time consuming to clean. My home was built in 1985 and had under cabinet lighting. The front and sides of the cabinet were lowered so the fluorescent strips were hidden. I love them because there’s a wall switch but the 3 strips have individual on/off switches so that you don’t need them all on. They are covered so easily wiped clean and the bonus is that each unit also has a built in outlet which is in addition to the other regular wall outlets so never am far from one. Now that people are ‘discovering’ under cabinet lighting, they don’t realize that they aren’t new, just not installed frequently in the past as they add to building costs. So many homes today have open space above cabinets, no handles or knobs and flat bottoms of cabinets that are cheaper to build.
We remodeled our kitchen 12 years ago and it’s still beautiful. Than we did white granite counter top and back splash of the same. We installed the switches on the bottom of the counters, on the outside area. So you can’t see them, but are there. The cabinets are draw cabinets in wood. We have lots of storage space. I love our hardware, but the same is on the lower cabinets and small on top. We placed on the floor this black Italian big ceramic tiles. I don’t know if I would have done black now. I am clean, but everything shows on the black. This was fun. Thank you. Wish I had you back than to listen too, lol
I just love my new kitchen counters. They are black with a slight white marbling. It isn't over done and reminds me of perhaps a little spilled mik. I know that sounds weird, but it is just enough contrast against the black background to keep it interesting, yet simple. I often try to sponge a spot up only to realize it is the design. The kitchen walls and cabinets are white with black appliances. white ( very fresh)
I always took may cabinetry to the ceiling. It was a very intiutive feeling that it looks much nicer. And I never like open shelving in my kitchen. Thanks for confimring my thoughts ... Inset cabinets doors are alway nice and look very decent ...
Cleaning hack for upper cabinets that are open above: unroll a roll of paper towels on them. Spritz lightly so they lay flat. Roll up and dispose when spring cleaning and there goes all the accumulated dust and grease.
I'm in the late stages of planning a kitchen remodel and taking all your advice to heart, thanks! Marble sinks are pretty, but won't ever have one personally. I'd be too afraid of damaging it. We're going with a honed Carrara marble countertop with marble backsplash though. Since we have a galley kitchen, I'll hang 3 semiflush pendant lights on the ceiling to add some interest, rather than solely recessed lighting. Hoping for inset cabinets, but due to cost, may need to stick with full overly. Getting a quote this week, so fingers crossed! Thanks again for all your advice; I've watched just about every video you've made and they've helped soo much!
I can't imagine putting marble in a sink, that's just crazy. It's one thing to try to avoid tomato sauce or juice drips on a countertop, but everything goes into the sink. Even if it gets rinsed right away, I bet after a year or two that marble sink would be a hot mess.
Great video, my daughter is redoing her kitchen and I am forwarding it to her . I have had a Blanco granite sink for over 10 years and I never have to worry about water spots or scratching and the color blends perfectly with my counter top. It is solid surface so you could sand it if you had to. After cleaning, you can wipe the sink with furniture polish oil and it looks brand new. Our area has a lot of vaulted ceilings which makes it harder to place cabinets or hang curtains! It is not possible to have cabinets go to the ceiling because the trim would have to be staggered and you could never reach the top cabinets. I really like how you address the functionality and maintenance as well as the aesthetics.
My old house had more of an open shelving concept and some cabinets that didn’t go up to the ceiling, it was the style 10 years ago😂😂 but what a mess!! I had to clean on top all the time!! New house, right up to the top🙌🏻
Best backsplash ever is glass. Love it, love it, love it. You can choose a colour or pattern if you want and it is so, so easy to clean. I will get it again in the new kitchen. My daughter loves it and says it is the best choice she made for her new kitchen. Also I love the under and over cupboard lighting, gorgeous. Plus I love a lamp proper in my kitchen. What a difference hey make (I have two.) One stainless steel sink larger shallow with draining shelves both ends. I don’t net two sinks as I have a dishwasher. What a great video… Thanks for helping. Hugs from Oz.
No venthood for me. Threw it out recently and never looking back. It frees up so much visual space! I put a nice sconce on the wall and open the window when cooking. The backsplash is a simple brushed aluminium plate, love it. I only wish I had more drawers
Marble sink would be a hard pass for me. The yellowing and staining would be too much for me. I think most people go too small on pendants over kitchen islands when it’s an open concept floor plan. So my kitchen hack is go big on the lighting. I’m not formally trained but have lived in 7 homes, tried a lot of home decor and leaned a lot. Lighting, wood floors and wall mouldings give every space “goods bones” and a jump off point for a stunning space.
I really appreciate your emphasis on on the practical. While you don't preach strict function over form, you give people common sense practical perspectives on required maintenance of different materials and styles.
Thanks for these tips. We are remodeling our kitchen this month. I love that you never make anyone feel bad for their choices. A lot of other channels make me question if I made the right choice. But you always make it clear to choose what’s right for our lifestyles not trends I appreciate that.
Agreed. Some are downright rude, not taking into consideration of ppl’s feelings, financial status, or ability. Garrett doesn’t ridicule and laugh at us. He gives us options when we cannot fix the issue. Love that for us!
I have doors on my lower cabinets. I purchased metal shelves inside the cabinets, that slide in and out. No more crawling around to see what’s there. Great video…again.
Hmmm...I love a white subway tile backsplash because it is classic, bright, and looks greak while being low cost. What I have moved to is dark grey or black grout because of the maintence. Also, I edge all my tile with schluter. **Garrett, it would be great if you did an entire video on schluter and wall tile.
As always, great advice and very good ideas on the kitchen design. Having just finished a full house remodel that included the kitchen, I can attest that everything you say makes perfect sense and is very helpful. We have shaker style frameless cabinetry in denim blue with white speckled granite countertop and full slab backsplash, tiled floors, chef’s kitchen double oven and a 36” cooktop that is very easy to maintain (no more digging out dirt and dust from the sides of the stove). Under cabinet lighting and recessed ceiling lights are perfect for the space (unfortunately no room for a chandelier lol). We found a very good solution for dealing with the grout - epoxy grout. It’s a bit more expensive than the regular kind, but it’s much cleaner during installation, very easy to maintain and is super durable. Comes in many colors too, so finding a perfect match is easy.
I love tile floors. They last forever and are cleaner. I never want any flooring but tile now that I have had it for the last 22 years. He is right about open shelving!
Thanks for watching, and sharing Joyce! I appreciate it. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Thanks, Garrett, for a useful and informative video. The underside of my upper cabinets houses lighting AND electric receptacles. My backsplash is Porcelanosa’s 13”x34” “Ona” tiles that present as a solid, subtlely undulating surface. Mounting the receptacles under the uppers keeps the backsplash design intact. Strongly recommended.
I just redid my kitchen. I have 10 ft ceilings and thought about taking the cabinets all the way to the ceiling but unfortunately, that was not in the budget. I already had molding at the ceiling and have molding on top of my cabinets. I did add under cabinet lightening. So happy with it. I'm getting older and that made a world of difference.
Marble is a no for us. I like low maintenance so we got quartz. Stainless steel sink all the way, but undermounted. Drawers! I love them. And, because of pets and traffic, vinyl plank flooring. It's awesome!
I got Rev-A_Shelf wire basket drawers for all my base cabinets. Not only did they work great even with really heavy loads, they stayed tidy and organized and were easy on my aging knees. Well worth it!
I’m doing my kitchen soon, and am definitely getting drawers, cabinets to the ceiling, and lots of light. Thank you for the oven hood suggestion! I hadn’t thought about it
I redid my kitchen last year and the drawers for the lower cabinets is absolutely wonderful. so much easier to get into, just better all the way around. I could not afford to do cabinets all the way to the ceiling because I have 10 foot ceilings. And I wanted quartz countertops but I couldn't afford that either. It sucks when you're on such a tight budget. But oh well.
Hello Garrett, 😉 I am in the process of redoing my apt. This has been harder than I thought! However, I believe it's going to be really nice. Switching from beige, greens, purples to blue with gold/silver. New sofa gray/blue. Just ordered end/coffee tables solid wood with art deco flair. Gotta wait 2.5 months for them. Beautiful though. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Watching your videos, think I am doing OK. Thank you ssooo much. So enjoy you....and your advice.
This was another very informative video. Lots of great ideas, tips and tricks for a helpful kitchen. The quality of the sound of your video though wasn’t as clear as normal. Thank you as always Garrett ❤🤗🇨🇦
Hi Garrett! I left a comment for you from my iPhone where I am Cheryl Swindells - you suggested subscribing. I’m trying to figure out my tech and a recent mixup. So I AM actually subscribed! 😃👍🏼. You give excellent advice. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes, a marble sink or any other high maintenance material is in my opinion, way too much work. When I am cleaning the kitchen I do not want to have to fret about what will happen to the sink with my cleaning supplies. I imagine never making pasta with red sauce because I am in fear of staining my sink. Not fun.
I have a lot of bamboo floors in my house, including in the kitchen. They are beautiful, easy to clean, and sustainable since bamboo is not a wood that comes from trees. Bamboo is a grass which grows from shoots to its full height in one season. Check it out if you’re interested.
Grid racks at the bottom of stainless steel sinks keep the sink from scratching (too much, nothing is perfect). They also are a great way to dry the bottom of something that was just lightly rinsed. Highly recommend them. Our sink came with one, we ordered a second for the other side, it was $100). Marble sinks, in my opinion, are too much maintenance and too expensive for the minimal impact they offer in a complete home, unless, of course, the home is tiny and you see the sink everywhere you look. Save the money and spend it elsewhere where the impact is better felt and seen - like on a boldly coloured dual fuel stove, we have one, way more impact then a marble sink.
My current favorite countertop material is quartzite, but likely that’s just because I’ve never had it. What I’ve learned through experience is that there is no perfect countertop material. I’m over the look of granite, it’s too busy for me. It’s also very porous, and therefore not the most hygienic if not sealed right. Travertine and marble are beautiful, but so much maintenance that I don’t even want them in my bathrooms anymore. I cook every day, and there are acids in even the most inconspicuous cosmetic products. Which is why this time I chose a quartz. Or settled for it. They get more natural looking all the time, and are hard to stain or etch. Not impossible though, but the one real drawback for me is that they are not heat resistant. I prefer the simplicity of a straight edge. Some manufacturers also call it “eased” edge.
Hi, Thank you for the video. I just subscribed. I will get the contractor kitchen with no oven and no upper drowers. The building in not ready yet. I need the minimal-maintenance style so artificial stone countertop, and tiles, and metal sink. My biggest problem is... NO WINDOWS, though sufficient ventilation will be provided. Cannot imagine the kitchen with no window 😜
Thanks so much Cheryl! Glad you enjoyed. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 😊😊😊
A marble kitchen sink would never work for me. I clean paintbrushes in my kitchen sink, pour out used wine, you name it. Lovely, but utterly silly, IMO. BTW, I love the kitchen photos you chose!
Yes, I don’t like the ongoing current trend that seems to be not going away soon, of the cabinets that have the open space between the top and the ceiling. I will still take a soffit that is flush to the front of the cabinets over nothing being there. Another great conversation with so much amazing information! ❤️😊
Hello Garrett! I love you and your videos. You've given me a lot of useful practical ideas for my kitchen remodel, you're a genius! You're looking very chic, as always. Love and peace from Vancouver, BC:>
I love all of your tips and how you present them. Subscribed a few weeks ago, but I also search your channel for specific topics. Keeps this great stuff coming, Garrett.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
I just recently joined the channel and really enjoying your information. I am building a house and the videos have really helped me make decisions! Thanks Garrett❤
Hello 👋 you know I love me a kitchen video. Great advice as always. A marble sink looks gorgeous but that would be a nightmare to keep clean especially if you cook a lot. I have stainless steel double apron sink it’s beautiful but it too can be a challenge to keep clean all stainless steel appliances are. The worse is the microwave above the stove. We are in the process of removing ours I strongly suggest to put your microwave elsewhere or you will be constantly cleaning it several times a day not fun.
I bought the Calcutta gold marble for my kitchen and , to be honest, it takes no effort in maintaining it 🤗I just make sure to keep red away from it ❤❤❤ greets episode
Awesome! That's a beautiful marble. Thanks for watching Diane. Please take a moment if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
This is one of my favourite videos ! My most favourite and the best is the bathroom video where you were so practical that I would blow kisses 😘 to the screen 🤣🤣🤣! Thank you thank you ! ❤ best wishes on your endeavours and this channel is really a gem. Please don’t change direction 😅
I have an awful popcorn ceiling in the kitchen that is yuck. Grease, dust, and stains from overflow in the upstairs lavatory. Est. $1200 to have it scraped, skimmed and painted. It's above my remaining remodel budget. Floors cabinets. Hardware all done and beautiful, but that ceiling ruins it. Garrett or subscribers any suggestions for me? ( I thought about a kind tin tile ceiling (composite material) but that doesn't fit the character of the house.
Sorry quick question do copper and chrome appliances go well together? Like I said before I LOVE copper but majority of small kitchen appliances only come in chrome.
A marble sink sounds like something someone who doesn't actually cook would really love. Stainless steel for me, easy to clean with Bar Keepers Friend.
I have tasmania oak wood top benches in a Californian bungalow but I'm not sure on a splash back. I like subway tiles as they are classic but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks so much Charlene! I’m glad you enjoyed. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 🎃🎃🎃
I love your channel. I like the way you include people with different needs into the design conversation. The materials you reference for counters, back splashes and floors in this episode did not include man made materials such as Corian, Silestone and porcelaine (for sinks). Are they more easy care?
Thanks so much Elizabeth! I appreciate it. It’s hard to cover everything in one video because of time. Depending on viewer response to this video, we may make a follow up and cover even more. Thanks for watching, and please take a moment to support the channel if you haven’t already, and join our very valued subscriber family. 🎃🎃🎃
Thanks for letting me know! I enjoy welcoming subscribers to the channel, and letting you know how important you are to the channel. Anyway, welcome Elizabeth. It's great having you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
I cook for my family way too much to consider a marble sink, or even the counters in marble despite loving it. Quartz is more durable and works better for my life, but my ideal look would be Carrera marble all the way.
Hi Garrett 🎃..so strange, my comment posted and then disappeared when I went back to look at it. SPOOKY 😂. So repost..love Granite Sinks!! Especially black ones. Hack..long track outlet strips that run the length of the upper cabinets. Love your ceilings focus! HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃 .please post your babies in their costumes?!❤
I agree about drawers instead of lower shelves. I remodeled a kitchen in the 90s and all lower cabinets were drawers. Loved it.
I have tile in my kitchen & hate it. I have to wear comfy shoes or my feet, legs, and back suffer.
Soooo true. Something I’ll consider when I build my next home.

I have hardwood floors throughout my home . The contractor installed water sensors so there’s no need for worry with hardwood floors.
I would love a video on designing an overall low-maintenance home that works for full schedules and aging in place. We are currently designing a newly built apartment and want to set things up as low-maintenance as possible for us.

Yes! Drawers under counters! It's the best thing! I recommend it to everyone!!
Also engineered quartz counter tops. They don't stain, are hard-wearing and heat resistant and come in all colours and styles.

My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed Joan.

My house is 690 ft.² and it was built in 1900. I love little houses.
Thanks so much Alexandra! I'm glad you are enjoying. :)
My dream kitchen is a swinging door off the dining room that I only have to walk through when I need to find the cook/maid.
Ha! Thanks 🤩! I’m just signing off on final plans on the kitchen cabinets in a new build, and thanks to your video, I just change the lower cabinets from doors to drawers!! Makes total sense, Thank you!! 🥰
That is awesome! Glad it was of help Kathy. Please take a moment to support the channel, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
New subscriber here. The moment you mentioned about cleaning on top of the cabinet where there is a gap, cleaning the open shelve and cleaning the hood, I agree that additional cleaning is a pain to do. 😊
Yay! Awesome. Welcome to the channel Divina. It's great to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
Dear Garrett,
I have been a subscriber to your channel for some weeks and enjoy each of your videos so much. That is entertainment at its very best and I have learned so much from you. And besides, your lovely personality always shines through and warms my heart. I love that for me. 😊
I am in the process of redecorating our 18-year-old house (no renovation needed), because our daughter has moved out and our son will follow to do so next year.

It looks so good
Thanks for the practical advice. We are building our home and I get overwhelmed with all the options.
I know a family who required the kitchen sink to be wiped down every time it was used. It was insanely annoying. “Build out the maintenance” - best advice!
👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing Fabiola! I wish I could have been there to help.
🎃🎃🎃
👍👍👍
Cleaning hack for upper cabinets that are open above: unroll a roll of paper towels on them. Spritz lightly so they lay flat. Roll up and dispose when spring cleaning and there goes all the accumulated dust and grease.
We are looking to do some upgrades to our kitchen in our Spanish Tudor house. Selecting backsplash for such a unique look is challenging.
My pleasure! Thanks for supporting the channel by watching and subscribing Andrea. I appreciate it. 🤗🤗🤗
My pleasure! Thanks so much Jennifer.😊😊😊
Thanks for sharing Marley! Glad you enjoyed. 🎃🎃🎃
I’m so glad you are enjoying and finding our videos helpful! Thanks for watching Jackie.

Great ideas! Thanks for sharing and watching.🎃🎃🎃
Thanks so much Julia! Also, thank you for sharing. 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks so much for the tip Lois! Glad you enjoyed the video. 🎃🎃🎃
I'm always surprised that outlets are in the backsplash area. So much better on the cabinet underside.
Sounds awesome Mavis! Congrats.😊😊😊
I agree I don’t like open shelving, marble sink nice but not for me 😅 I want easy maintenance! Btw Nice jumper color suits you. 😍
Thanks!😊😊😊
Yes!!! To everything. Another well done video however I’m not brave enough to mix metals yet…. Can we have a video on that?
I hadn’t thought about it
Glad you enjoyed Liz! I love the sound of your kitchen renovation. 🎃🎃🎃
No marble sink, I wouldn't want to try to keep it clean. Loved this video again, thanks Garrett
Thanks Carol! Glad you enjoyed. 😊😊😊
That's awesome! Thanks so much for watching and your support. :)

Yes, a marble sink or any other high maintenance material is in my opinion, way too much work. When I am cleaning the kitchen I do not want to have to fret about what will happen to the sink with my cleaning supplies. I imagine never making pasta with red sauce because I am in fear of staining my sink. Not fun.
In the process of doing up design for kitchen Reno. I’m so confused what style I want. Love all your insight!
I have a lot of bamboo floors in my house, including in the kitchen. They are beautiful, easy to clean, and sustainable since bamboo is not a wood that comes from trees. Bamboo is a grass which grows from shoots to its full height in one season. Check it out if you’re interested.
We put in all bamboo floors, too. I love them.

Thanks so much!

No sink stone for me, my husband is clumsy he will brake all our plates and wine glasses.

I love all of your tips and how you present them. Subscribed a few weeks ago, but I also search your channel for specific topics. Keeps this great stuff coming, Garrett.

Yay! Thanks so much for watching and sharing. 🎃🎃🎃
I bought the Calcutta gold marble for my kitchen and , to be honest, it takes no effort in maintaining it 🤗I just make sure to keep red away from it ❤❤❤ greets episode

You're my favourite interior design person
Wow, that's very nice of you. Thanks so much!
Yes! Drawers are so much better.
Dreaming of my kitchen! I need the inset cabinet doors.
✨✨✨
Sorry quick question do copper and chrome appliances go well together? Like I said before I LOVE copper but majority of small kitchen appliances only come in chrome.
A marble sink sounds like something someone who doesn't actually cook would really love. Stainless steel for me, easy to clean with Bar Keepers Friend.
I have tasmania oak wood top benches in a Californian bungalow but I'm not sure on a splash back. I like subway tiles as they are classic but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
For me it’s a very strong exhaust system. I had 1000 cfi in my last house and it was probably overkill but it was important to me.
Do you do virtual interior design? I need help selecting a mirror for a master's bathroom and pendents for a kitchen island. Thank you!
No, sorry

What faucet is the least maintenance 😢 Please help! I have the farm house with sprayer. I’m always polishing the chrome.
I hate my builder grade tile floors. The grout lines are like 1/4"! Impossible to keep clean.
As usual, you are right about everything, especially the open shelves. Way too much work for me.
Glad you enjoyed Rosemary!😊😊😊
Marble sinks to me sound about as practical as upholstered cabinets. Hard no

I love your channel. I like the way you include people with different needs into the design conversation. The materials you reference for counters, back splashes and floors in this episode did not include man made materials such as Corian, Silestone and porcelaine (for sinks). Are they more easy care?

Loved all your wisdom. If you’re doing a follow up on materials, could you discuss using cork for a kitchen floor? Thanks
I cook for my family way too much to consider a marble sink, or even the counters in marble despite loving it. Quartz is more durable and works better for my life, but my ideal look would be Carrera marble all the way.
Garret, what do you think of concrete countertops?
Hi! Not my vibe. I wouldn’t have one even in an ultra modern home.
