    I was born in 1953 and my father used the M3 when it came out the next year but ended up using an M2 and an M2-R during the rest of his life. For decades I have been using the great M6 TTL and the fantastic R8, but I went digital with a Leica T camera this year to which I can attach both my M and R lenses and still get brilliant photos. I tore down my darkroom in our garage last month which had the amber safelights from my father's 1950s darkroom. I have been using Photoshop since its creation and it has totally met my processing needs since buying the Leica T. And the HP Envy 4520 printer I bought makes absolutely stunning b&w and color prints on HP's semi-gloss paper, surpassing what I got in my darkroom!

    I have both 0.72 and 0.58 M6ttl. I also bought a 1.25x magnifier that turns 0.58 into 0.72 and 0.72 into 0.85. It's worth the price. You can still find the magnifier for sale. They are my everyday tools for photoreportage. Thank you for sharing.

    07:44 - Viewfinder Correction: Classic M6 DID have a run of 0,85 viewfinders. Maybe at the end of “classic” M6 production around 1998, just before Leica started making the TTL for flash versions.I doubt they are especially rare or valuable.
    I had a 0.72 and later bought a 0.85 as soon as I heard of them because I was mostly shooting bands in clubs. Lighting was often terrible and the subject was usually about 15-30 feet away. Higher magnification helped with seeing in the dim rooms and a larger image helped focusing. I got hold of an old 85mm Summarex which was the fastest medium telephoto I could afford at the time.
    As you touched on I also had a small, portable two lens kit that was very capable and were the only lenses I had for years. I eventually sold the .72. I kept everything else.
    As a matter of fact the old battle horse, 0.85 M6 + Summarex are set up on.a little tripod on my desk right now. Same basic look, black M6 (that’s black chrome btw) with a silver lens.
    Maybe I should make a video about my camera too?
    Take care.

    Nice video. I’ve had my M6 for 11 years now. I recently had to get the shutter repaired, so I got the MP finder upgrade done while it was there. It’s perfect now.. I plan to be buried with it.. 😅 You mentioned that speed dial direction is different on the two M6 versions, but I just wanted to note that if you have an older M as well (pre-M6), the classic version of the M6 might be a better option (if you’re not using ttl flash) to use side by side since the shutter dials will also rotate the same direction. It’s a little less confusing when you’re in the moment. Also, maybe I’m weird, but I like and prefer the basic arrows for the meter. It keeps the viewfinder clean and mine’s always been accurate.

      Honestly your M4 is a much nicer camera than the M6. Don't let the popular opinion fool you. You will get used to the reading the light. I haven't used a meter in over 5 years when using my M2 and M3. If I need a built in light meter for lets say slide film I use my Konica Hexar RF. Happy shooting.

      The M6 is not a light camera. It is small, but it is not light. Everything is made from metal, so the body alone weighs about 650g. If you get a Leica lens, too, the whole package can weigh about 1 kg.

    I enjoy and appreciate all of your videos, and your review of the Klasse W influenced my purchasing decision. But I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the M6, specifically when compared to the M5. I have found the M5 to be a superior camera. First, the over/under meter on the M6 tells me little in the way of exposure, whereas the M5’s analog needle gives me a sense of exposure proportionality, and allows me to quickly gauge and compare metering on different areas of a scene before taking the shot. It’s like watching a video on TH-cam, some people might look at the numerical time stamp to see their playback position in video, but others (perhaps a majority?) will look at the progress bar, which is more akin to a needle meter display. Second, the oversized shutter dial on the M5 permits for rapid one-handed adjustments while keeping the camera up to the eye, unlike the smaller knobs on the M6s that can feel a bit fidgety. I do think that the M6 is a prettier design, but I prefer practicality over aesthetics. And personally, the M5 feels better in my hands than the M6. I wonder if those who don’t like the M5 would feel as strongly about it if there was not a well established dislike bandwagon to jump on and well known historical reasons for why the camera became the brand’s proverbial red-headed stepchild. Regardless, both cameras are great. I just feel that the M5 is deserving of more positive acknowledgement and might actually be a better fit for many photographers who are not prone to being swayed by such negative popular opinion.

    • @benjhaisch
      @benjhaisch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh I’m 100% just kidding about the M5, it’s just know to be the outcast of the Leica world. I’ve definitely considered picking one up though just to buck the trend ;)

    Hi. Great video. I made same M6 upgrade few years ago. It is more discreet and elegant :) I wish that cool strap.. I really love it.

    MP also has a meter. I wish it was as affordable as the M6
