- In today's full time RV Living & Van Life travel vlog, I talk about my experience van life winter snow camping in a freezing blizzard with no propane!
Van life has its ups and downs and plenty of learning experiences. Winnebago says the National Park edition Winnebago Travato is 4 season rig. In this video I explore how this rig held up to van life winter camping in a freezing blizzard with no propane.
I came home to take care of my mother during a sickness. I stayed in my van to try to avoid getting sick. It's freezing cold here in Missouri. I'd never van life winter camped in weather this cold. I didn't realize that propane is essential and thought I could survive a van life winter camping night in a freezing blizzard with just my electric heating elements. While I made it through the freezing blizzard, it was not a comfortable night.
Snow camping while living in a van was no joke. I definitely recommend making sure you have plenty of propane if you want to try van life camping in a freezing blizzard!

yeah, I made some dumb mistakes...great lessons learned that I figured I'd share.

Your latest videos have definitely validated my decision to move west. I love still having seasons in Reno with above freezing temps during the day! Oh and I know about helping takecare of an older ailing mom. My mom has stage IV breast cancer, but has been fortunate to have some great treatment options that have kept her going for years. I do sympathize with you as a son my age that is caring for an elderly parent. You are a good son.

Great video!! I picked up my Revel and made my trek back east to NJ from Iowa. Experienced -23 wind chills in IL. It was quite an adventure. The Revel heat worked really well sipping diesel the whole time. Stay safe out there!!

We have lots of snow here in NY also! I was thinking that if you have any extra room in your rig, you could store an extra tank of propane when you decide to do cold weather camping. That's probably not an ideal solution, but it beats waking up every couple of hours to turn your engine on. Stay warm! Hope your mom is doing better!

Geez Louise 🥶🥶🥶that’s not the kind of weather I would ever choose to be in. I’m a warm weather wimp, I’ve never lived in the cold and have no desire to start now lol. I’ve traveled and experienced cold weather but the coldest in my van was in the teens at night but my diesel heater kept the van toasty warm but it is loud. Good to know there's a smart rig out there! Nice pick, Sir. Just smiling at your blizzard. Perfect visibility = Snow is 'falling'. (Not a blizzard) Can't see too well, really coming down = 'snowing'. (Not a blizzard) Can't see beyond your hand and can't drive thru it = 'blizzard'. Northern Michigan. But... haven't had decent blizzards in a few decades. Used to have them pert-near every weekend. Barely 'snowing' these days.

I spent my time pushing recruits at MCRD Parris Island, no snow... just recruits, sand & fleas. Sounds painful; snow

We are also in Missouri right now. The temperatures a couple of weeks ago by Missouri standards were brutal. We were able to get through it though. :) Thanks for sharing this info. I have got a couple of ideas that I might be able to use in our truck camper.

62 degrees and sunny in N. CA today. Just got back from a ski trip, as snowy Lake Tahoe is a 90-minute drive away. Note: Most of the snow-boarders with nice rigs also had their engines on to stay warm. Amazing how many sleep in the parking lot.

What a great contrast from the video at Nellis. [ been there twice in early 80s for Red Flag] when you did the extreme heat video. What a great testament to the ability of the Travato for all season living.
Like others have probably mentioned, another alternative would be to keep driving after getting your propane to a warmer locale. ha.
I hope you are still enjoying those new speakers you got for your rig? Bluetooth speakers are awesome IMO. My wife and I take our JBL Charge on every trip.

Great video Kevin. Sorry your having to suffer through the cold snowy weather. However, it is great to hear that the Travato can handle it. We are in Northern (Byron) Illinois so are experiencing the same weather (only colder). We pick up our new 2021 Travato GL tomorrow (6 month wait) from Winnebago Motorhomes of Rockford (same dealer Scott of GSLL used). Very excited! Hope your Mom is continuing to improve!! Is she out of the hospital yet?
Very cool...congrats! Dont forget to winterize if you're not staying in it. The volta heater only works when the inverter is on.
Kevin Invest in a backup heating sore if your going to be out in that freezing weather! As well as a good -30 sleeping bag! Last week in Colorado we were sitting at -25. I know better than to get my van out in that kind of weather but I enjoy watching your awesome channel instead!

Even with the LP limitations, it’s great the rig is 4 seasons. Worrying about freezing temps was annoying for me. Great video explaining how everything functions.

I've been stuck in this mess in Texas, and I had no power for 19 hours. I survived by using my Jackery 500 and an electric blanket. I keep an electric blanket in my RV, too.

I finally got to see a Storyteller in Springfield, MO at an outdoor show. Holly cow the show was packed. Listening to this video, having the diesel heater in the Storyteller feeding off the van's fuel tank sure would come in handy.

I just picked up and moved into my 2021 Travato 59GL. Immediately drove almost non-stop from Forest City to Florida and beat the polar vortex.
