    I had completely forgotten about the triforce fetch quest. Would have been neat if there were a couple more dungeons in Wind Waker though, the game is still great though!

      To be honest even back than on the mid 2000s (the remerber the year I got Wind Waker) I found it strange that the first half of the game is linear but the 2nd half are fetch question, it was like I was not playing the same game

      If they put a fetch quest in Zelda U, I will bust a nut, lol.
      Also, I hope they put more side quests into the next entry.

      +CodeNameZ Ive played the game 3 or so time and that's the point where i always hit a wall. I have never finished it because the game starts to suck so bad when you reach the sailing around to islands part. The first half of the game is one of the best Zelda's ever. I always prefer to just remember it that way.

      +SpaceHamster Considering that Zelda games are already pretty solid when it comes to content and Wind Waker was one of the more exploration focused entries (what with that vast sea at your disposal) I don't really think Wind Waker needed to be any longer.

      I love the fact that even now, the visuals look great, despite the game being 12 years old. That's why I find the release of The Wind Waker on Wii U so pointless.

      +OnionMaster Well I wanna to get Wind Waker HD just because my old gamecube copy does not work amymore, like I have no interest in Twilight Princess HD because I have a working TP disc.
      I also think the gamepad Screen makes saling easyer because I remerber everytime I sail in the GC version I pause the game like 2-3 times to see am I close, so in the Wii U version at least I would not need to pause it

    • @JazGalaxy
      @JazGalaxy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +DidYouKnowGaming? I've been playing Zelda games since the first one when it was new and, to me, Wind Waker is the "real" Zelda look for the characters and the world. The art style for Ocarina Of Time and onward is literally hideous. I have no idea why people like it, but it was clearly designed for the limitations of the N64 and most characters look bizarre or repulsive. For people for whom it was their first zelda game, characters like the grave digger or the fairies probably don't look as insane as they do to someone who grew up with the series, but to this day they remain absolutely baffling to me.

    • @DefinitiveDubs
      @DefinitiveDubs 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +DidYouKnowGaming? I don't get the hype. It has few dungeons (Yes MM had few as well, but there were valid reasons for it) you have to change the wind every 5 minutes to get anywhere, you have to spend *hours* feeding that damn fish just to fill out your map, the entire Triforce quest, and sailing is just boring. It feels epic the first 5 times you do it, but it becomes boring afterwards. Even with the warp which takes you to a very limited number of locations, you still have to do a shitton of sailing. I just don't get it.

      BlazeHeatnix - Definitive Dubs You're right in all your criticisms. Those are all extremely poor aspects of the game and are why it's not a great game overall. But in my opinion it FIXES all the things that were wrong with Ocarina that made THAT game a terrible Zelda game, in my opinion. Most specifically, the fact that link, a swordsman, spends all his time hiding and waiting. Dekus, octaroks,skulltullas, mobiles... it's all just sitting there waiting and then reflecting their attack back at them or waiting to attack them went heir back is turned. Its a completely different, worse genre of game than the previous zelda games which were fast action games. This was basically all done because of the limitations of the N64 and because they couldn't figure out how to make Zelda work in 3d. As a result, Mario 64 is honestly a better Zelda game than Ocarina Of time. Mario 64 is even way more non-linear than Zelda 64.
      Wind waker fixed all that, to some extent.
      Don't get me wrong, it still has problems, but where Ocarina is hideous (The fairies? Come n.), Wind Waker was gorgeous. Where Ocarina had poor control, WW had better control. Where Ocarina felt cripplingly linear, WW felt slightly more open ended.
      I haven't felt like a Zelda game succeeded since ALTTP, but I have yet to play ALBW. Every single game that come out, I think..."maybe this will be the one!" but... so far.. not yet...

    Speaking about the Wind Waker; did you know that Carlov the Sculptor, the guy who carves figurines for the Nintendo Gallery, actually holds a very special secret? The description of his figurine reads as follows: "Lately, his club has been losing membership because he hasn't done anything "cool" with it, but as long as Link hangs around, everything will be all right!". Just replace the name of Link for whatever name or nickname you decided to enter in your save file and you got yourself a message from Eiji Aonuma addressing you directly as a special way of saying: "Thank you for playing our game and for sticking with Nintendo" This is especially heartwarming considering that when the game came first it was back when Nintendo's home console at the time, the Gamecube, wasn't doing so well, and the company was losing a lot of players. A sad reality that still persist to our day with the Nintendo Wii U which incidentally has a remake of the Wind Waker in its software lineup, and despite the many changes it has from the Gamecube version, this message in particular remains untouched. Nintendo may have its ups and downs as a company, but as long as we stick around for them, they'll be all right.

    - There's skulls in the cave that Tingle digged out behind his jail cell... Either they're there because the cell is about under where

As for the two missing dungeons, I always assumed one of the was to be a dungeon for getting Nayru's Pearl and always wondered what kind of dungeon they would have made for that.

    "apologized for the triforce fetch quest"
    I honestly think that this part is one of the most fun parts of the game. Because what I really like about the game is the open world you can explore and obtaining the triforce part pretty much lets you do exactly that. The only bad thing about it is how it takes away space for sidequests from the world (Some islands purpose was exclussively for the triforce) but then again this poses the question if there would have been such if it wasn't for the triforce.

  • @joeinsomniac3180
    @joeinsomniac3180 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What I liked about the triforce fetch quest is it gave you an excuse to explore the map, which I found fun. Each unit on the sea-chart had its own island, and a variety of tasks associated with it. The game-play involved with engaging them is quite entertaining.

      @DeadHandtheSurvivor 9 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      +The Introspector Why do people hate the sailing in Wind Waker? I love the idea of exploring the sea and sailing to islands visible in the background. It gives you a sense of adventure, at least for me anyway. I do agree it can feel slow and a bit tedious having to do the wind song for the one thousand time, but once you get that out of the way it's smooth sailing. And hey! If sailing's really annoying for you, then you can get an item called the Swift Sail in the HD remake of Wind Waker which makes sailing ten times faster and easy.

    • @introspectre7713
      @introspectre7713 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      DeadhoofofWind The overworld, with the exception of the islands, is very empty and has nothing in it. Changing the wind direction is just tedious. Also just because they fixed something in the remaster doesn't mean the problem is completely gone. It's not like they just hand you the swift sail, you have to obtain it at the auction house which means you'll still have to do some sailing without the swift sail.

    I've heard about the "two dungeons removed, used in other Zelda games" thing before, but I still wonder what those two dungeons were and which games they were finally included in.
    I still think the Ancient Cistern (Skyward Sword) was one of them. I mean, there are plenty of instances that makes it so similar to something you'd find in Wind Waker, including the boss, whose weapon you have to pick up and use against it. Just a wild guess though...

It gave me the sense of adventure, and what would've been like if you, the player, was Link at the time. And, it felt like an RPG, trying to solve puzzles and trying to move ahead and figure out where the pieces were located. I don't care what you all think, I personally loved it.

    I didn't mind the Triforce quest at all. The story is pretty fast paced and linear up through the Tower of the Gods, but suddenly after that the entire ocean opens up. It's a great incentive to start really exploring and adventuring. You can collect the shards, complete the Earth and Wind temples, and do any of the other remaining sidequests in any order at that time as long as you have the required items. One of the reasons that Wind Waker remains one of my favorite titles is the fact that it has so much freedom in the second half of the game, and there is so very much content to experience within that freedom. I hope the next game has the same feel to it.

    The tTriforce fetch quest was what made this game feel more complex than other Zelda games. You explore the entire map, one corner to the next, you realize that it is a pretty big map. Then it happens, you are told to find scattered Triforce pieces throughout the land, prompting you to visit places you might not have been to in a while. And let me tell you, the ghost ship actually gave me nightmares as a kid (and the fucking kraken-octorock thing.) The only thing that ruined some of the experience was the map deciphering

    EDIT: Meant to say "one of the few people that STILL likes Twilight Princess." By this I mean that it received massive praise upon it's release by fans and critics but recently it seems to get shitted on for being "gloomy, colorless, dark and boring." Personally, I don't care cause it's still an awesome game and preferences are preferences.

    holy crap. i've been playing this game for two years. it's the first zelda game i've really taken the time to play. i was stuck in a boss then quit. then came back to it many months later, finally beat it, then when on a run, feeling good about it, beat the next boss like it was nothing, got the master sword, met ganon. anyway, it kind of feels like i've been living in this game, even when i'm mostly away from it (i guess that's part of the beauty of a zelda game). my point is, the first minute of the video was already full of spoilers for me, lol. what a huge, epic game. man. nintendo is really something else.

      Depends on the context really, otaku can have different connotations to it.
      For some its basically the same as calling somebody a socially inept, basement-dwelling nerd (think shut-in types), but its also used more casually, like calling somebody a computer nerd or geek.

    I really thought the fetch quest was an amazing idea. In other previous Zelda games, there's a LARGE emphasis on exploration, and everything being non-linear. In the fetch quest, it's almost like a throw-back to Zelda 1. I got to explore the whole land in search of the tri-force in any order I wanted. It gave me even more new reasons to explore this giant over-world, and at my own pace as well. Honestly, I prefer it over having 2 extra dungeons, it gives it that real classic feel.

    It's crazy, all these thing that people apparently hated about Wind Waker, I loved. It made it more immersive to me and it was unapologetic.

    Stepping around the issues like the art style furore and the question of Tingle's sexuality without mentioning them explicitly, well played.

    Yea that fetch quest haunted me back in high school. And came back in glorious HD form when I got the HD Wind Waker Wii U bundle... At least the game pad looks amazing
