- India starts as the 2nd seeds at the Chess Olympiad 2024 in both open and women section that will take place in Budapest, Hungary from 12th to the 23rd of September 2024. We bring you all the details of the event and an overview of the main teams at the tournament. What do you think of India's chances at this tournament?

They will certainly give a tough fight because as far as I know they are all in form but I don't know about Harikrishna

Dear Sagar would you know why Savita is not playing she is GM and Divya and Tanya got the spot even though they are IM. Is it a usual case of going by more flashy fancy names ? Also i wonder why Nihal is not in the team ? There is no need of experience in the team . This young lot is way ahead in maturity as well. Thanks for giving the details.
@@Liberty55555 Savitha is not a GM. She is a WGM- woman grand master. There are only three Indian women who are GM-Humpy, Harika and Vaishali. Current elo- Divya is 4th , Tanya is 5th and Savitha is 9th. Also Divya and Tanya are IM, which is a position above WGM. The order is GM, IM, WGM, WIM...also Nihal is currently 8th in the men's list, below all the 5 players who are in the team.
Kramnik is there to apply 'the procedure' to other Olympiad teams if Uzbeks lose any game...
In the women's team Vaishali is the one who has been playing in high level recently...still I hope our women team gets back and wins gold, they are all awesome.
they did not give chance to Savitha shri B . such a shame keep playing Tanya and not let fresh thoughts come to the game.

Great to see Peter Leko on playing field along with Richard Rapport.
While not belittling Harikishna's talent and past performances, he is definitely past his prime and should make way for upcoming talents going forward. I would trade him for world no 31 Aravindh Chidambaram anytime.
And if it is rapid or blitz format, I would bring in Nihal and Raunak in place of Harikrishna and Vidit.
At the moment, only three players can make the cut in all formats: Arjun, Gukesh and Pragg.

Anand is no longer active in classical format because it requires great stamina which is difficult to achieve at his age.
@@atulbesra822 That is true, one or two match wouldn't matter that much, but Olympiads go for around a month. Even though in faster forms, Vishy sir is still on top level at such an age, only few people have been able to play around 2750 in their 50s, he is a legend. Not to mention he is also vice president of FIDE, right not now, he likely plays for his enjoyment and to not be rusted.

Chess has a huge role in increasing the influence of any country, like the influence of Soviet Union, because it is a game that requires sharp minds and is therefore very respected.
Today the 4 most powerful countries of the world are also powerhouses in chess because I have read news of both chess and geopolitics. Russia, India, USA and China 🎉
These four countries dominate chess and I think these four should introduce Grand Slam titles in chess just like in tennis so that there can be a war between the powerhouse countries without any bloodshed. And we have to create such a team in India under the mentorship of Vishwanath Anand that can defeat the whole world together like the USSR team.

You are comparing with tennis to chess. Tennis is highly watched sport . already grand prix exist. Olympiad also popular event u can't compare with spectator friendly sports

He will be present as the non playing captain of Azerbaijan... Actually they had set a no of games to be eligible for Azerbaijan team which he did not have
Pretty disappointing that Alireza is not playing for France.
I was expecting Arjun to be on board 3 or 4 because of his lack of experience against the top players, but I guess if we never try, we'll never know

you know what .. indians have this habit of not letting go of big names and giving chances to younger players.. Chess has 200 tournaments all around . olympics is no big deal.
If we give training in chess for schoolchildren who score high in mathematics, they can be transformed into excellent players of the game.

Vidit should be board 1, he is pretty good at drawing, while Arjun can just win every game on board 3, dude is a 2600 killer. I am sure Admin can beat top players as well, but he almost always wins against low woo players unlike Vidit

Top five ranked players (based on last three months average FIDE published elo ranking) are selected. Nihal Sarin is only seventh ranked Indian so he misses out.
