- In this video I wanted to break down the coloring difference between 14kt white gold and 18kt white gold. I get a lot of questions regarding white gold in general so I wanted to start with this. For most people the rich color of a higher purity chain is very important. This applies to 18kt white gold in a different way. I do think it's all preference at the end of the day though.

I love my white gold Franco. It’s easily my favorite of all three colors I have. Something about that sunlight hitting it makes it pop so much more than rose or yellow gold.

I use to also be one of those people that didn’t understand white gold. My favorite metal being silver, it has grown on me a lot over time. The benefits of white gold that has me buying it is the almost appearance of silver but with it being stronger than 925 silver and tarnish resistant, compared to my silver jewelry I shine once a week lol 😂
Bruh stay with silver, unless your buying 22k gold, gold chains aren't mostly gold but other metals and at least silver jewelry is mostly silver.
It looks' not only better, shines more, doesn't need plating to to be re plated, and unlike gold chains unless they are 22k, the (silver) chain is mostly that; silver.

I like 18kt, it just feels heavier and if you are in Europe or any other country on Vacation you look normal, 14kt looks fake, , then fo over to Asia or the Middle east and everything is 22 or even 24 KT , out of all the gold I stick with 18kt as it is beautiful and shines like nothing else. I have a 300 gram 6mm Cuban in .999 and its shows scratches very easy so you gotta wear it with kid gloves. My 18kt 6mm Franco I would trust to pull my car out of a ditch. How much markup is usually found on gold chains in the states. In the UK I've seen 100% against gold spot price. Even on a 8k piece which seems crazy?
Not all white gold jewelry are rhodium plated hence no more fading. Having said that, any color you choose in 18k will always be a better choice period

There's a ton of pieces I've been waiting on to drop in 18kt white gold. I wear smaller pieces personally but prefer the weight and gold ratio of 18 karat opposed to 14k. Currently rocking an 18k wg mini pendant with a 14k wg chain and hope you can start to give the option for it at some point. Would gladly pay the difference.
You do a video putting a platinum chain, silver chain and a white gold chain (both 18 and 14 carrots with the white gold) together so we can all see the difference side by side. Also ignore my comment if you've already done a video like this.

it depends on the jeweler and how they like to do things. Cartier white gold is 75% platinum, 25 palladium & they don't plate unless the piece includes diamonds. I'm sure some other places do it this way as well

Correct with white gold the whiter and less karats in it it starts to appear more like silver. However there’s still a night and day difference between silver and white gold. It’s like saying blue and baby blue look like the same. Just because it’s both of the silver color nature doesn’t mean it looks the same.

Hey guys! Pretty new to the jewelry game. I have an ID bracelet 18kt white gold 8inch with 5mm curb link. I was wondering if it is hollow or solid. Weight is roughly 10.5 grams. Any clue if it may be solid or hollow?
That is semi hollow
I’d also say hallow or semi hallow. Although 5mm curb isn’t the heaviest style and not chain so I’m not 100%. I’ve noticed hallow chains when shaken around sound more pingy and sound different. If that makes any sense or helps but if you don’t have a solid piece it’ll be hard to compare

the only time white gold turns yellow is when yellow gold is used and plated over with rhodiium white gold is mixed with nickel therefore will only turn dull not yellow
Dull but there’s definitely a yellow hue to it without rhodium. They do use different alloys that are whiter in color to make it less yellow but yeah it will still have a yellow ish hue. More so in the 18kt because obviously more gold purity less white alloys. But personally I love the color of non plated white gold. I think a polished non rhodium white gold chain would look dope. Unique as well.

Not true there are white colored gold alloys without rhodium. They're more yellow then silver not as bright and also more yellow then platinum. All undiped of course.
White gold alloys generally have Nickle or cost more cause they use alot of other precious metals as bleaching metals. Forget the name of the one alloy but it's expensive. Uses paladium platinum silver some rhodium gold obviously and another bleaching metal that isn't precious but isn't Nickle. Might be tin like some other gold alloys use.

Hello JACOJE LYNX , I had an unrelatedly question, I recently purchased a 14k gold rope chain and when it was weighed at the jewelry store the scale said 23g so I purchased it thinking it weighed 23g like they said but when I got home and put it on my scale it said 15g , so I wanted to see if you had any recommendations on how to approach the jeweler on this ? Most customers will prefer 10k white, since it's cheaper and the same color (rhodium)

The rhodium plating is very very thin to where the white gold and alloy mixture will shine through. This is why 18kt white gold looks more yellow than 14kt. Yellow hue I should say. Look it up. Basically at 10k you might as well just get costume jewelry or plate silver with gold because it becomes more random metals and alloys than gold. 14k should be the lowest anyone wants if you want a GOLD chain. Not a nickel bronze zinc chain with a little gold in it (10k) Most jewelers would agree and why many don’t sell under 14kt.

For yellow 18K all the way, if not 22. And for rose gold, 14 for sure. For white I'd say 10 or 14k for low budget, platinum for good one.
