Manga is keeping bookstores alive. Literally. I remember when manga only had a single shelf at every bookstore for niche buyers. They have entire sections of entire series now in every store I go into.

Making the minorities be catered to not small. If representation is soooo important to these people many of these cultures should be represented so that we have superheroes for EVERYONE.
I wasn't a fan, but I can tell you exactly why people are being drawn into that one and it's the same reason why comics are bombing, it's all about the story. If you like it, then the show is for. I understand why people like it even though it's not for me.

I personally detest the notion that you can't see yourself in a character unless they share your religion/race/ethnicity/sexuality/sex or whathaveyouever. That speaks to an intensely shallow mindset. Actual character is irrelevant to these people, only superficial traits matter.
My mom somewhat did this when I was growing up. I wanted dress like Sleeping Beauty because she was pretty and wore pink. But "sweetie, we're black. Don't you want to be Jasmine or your own princess?" No mom. I wanted to be sleeping beauty. It didn't matter that we look different. She was cool. (Tiana wasn't a thing then, but even if she was I still would have liked sleeping beauty. I even told her one day I liked Jasmine better to make her feel better. This is soooo petty, I know, but the memory still sticks)

What I really like about Superman: Red Son's Wonder Woman is that her sexual identity is a one and done deal. A man tries kissing her, she rejects his advance, done, dusted let's be good friends. At no point do they make her sexuality a key component of her character or feel the need to keep bringing it up. I can't recall it even being used as marketing bait to advertise the film either, its just a nice throw-away line that adds to her character without it BECOMING her character, a trait I'm concerned is happening with far too many characters in Western Media in general.
I’m honestly thankful about the downfall of mainstream comics. If we didn’t get the SJW takeover I never would have searched out fantagraphics, Ec comics, underground cartoonists, 90s outlaw comics or French comics. So thanks SJWs for allowing me to realize there was way better books out there!

To be honest, I’ve never had a problem with a character being made bisexual, gay or even transgender. My problem is SJW and Feminist think that’s the be all and end all when making a character. Caring more for things that are frivolous and not creating characters that are flawed and grounded.

My favorite part about that picture of Superman holding the climate change sign is that he's completely ignoring the giant squid monster killing people in the background because he's protesting with some activists. The artist accidently (I assume) parodied themselves perfectly with that picture, by pointing out how absurd it is that Superman is opting to spend his time protesting about something rather than being a real hero and saving lives. Modern society is truly beyond parody at this point.

The classic audience of comic books is falling off, dying off, and the new audience doesn't give a crap about comic books. So companies try to pander, in the hopes that they somehow find out what the new audiences like about comic books. By the looks of it by now, the old audiences are insufficient to keep the industry afloat, and the new audiences mostly care about manga, so the comic book companies are flailing around like a headless chicken, throwing shit at the walls and looking to see what sticks, NOTHING STICKS, but they still have shit to throw for now before they finally give up or go bankrupt. Black Sails is the last time I've seen "diversity" done right. I could guess the writers politics quite easily. But I can also tell the time and effort they put in actually crafting a very complicated story that made sense from beginning to end. I'm bi and I hate how companies pretend to care, but clearly only see us as pandering material. They'll make a preexisting character gay, or they'll make a new gay character but their whole personality is "I'm gay" I remember watching The Owl House and seeing the main character was bisexual and it felt natural, it didn't feel forced and they had an actual personality. But Disney cancelled it and they were against that character being bi.

The best thing about that Superman protesting cover is they made a cover showing exactly why they are failing. Behind him there is a massive monster attacking a boat. An actual threat. I am amazed that DC and Marvel have lasted this long. I can't imagine how the comic book publishers thought allowing their writers frequently and earnestly attacking their customers was a good long term strategy, but they did.
Batwoman was rebooted and retconned as lesbian since the failed New 52. The true Batwoman was created at early 60's as a rival and love interest for Batman.
The ladder sounds much more interesting, I wish they kept her that way, now thanks to a woke decision we now have a woke TV show. Can you imagine a Batwoman show based on the 2nd premise instead of the first. (With no wokeness though).

Manga is keeping bookstores alive. Literally. I remember when manga only had a single shelf at every bookstore for niche buyers. They have entire sections of entire series now in every store I go into.

Making the minorities be catered to not small. If representation is soooo important to these people many of these cultures should be represented so that we have superheroes for EVERYONE.

What I really like about Superman: Red Son's Wonder Woman is that her sexual identity is a one and done deal. A man tries kissing her, she rejects his advance, done, dusted let's be good friends.
At no point do they make her sexuality a key component of her character or feel the need to keep bringing it up. I can't recall it even being used as marketing bait to advertise the film either, its just a nice throw-away line that adds to her character without it BECOMING her character, a trait I'm concerned is happening with far too many characters in Western Media in general.

My favorite part about that picture of Superman holding the climate change sign is that he's completely ignoring the giant squid monster killing people in the background because he's protesting with some activists. The artist accidently (I assume) parodied themselves perfectly with that picture, by pointing out how absurd it is that Superman is opting to spend his time protesting about something rather than being a real hero and saving lives. Modern society is truly beyond parody at this point.

there's something so enlightening about how they portray the most powerful demigod of a superhero as doing something so pointless and performative. They don't view holding a sign and protesting to be a means to get people to take meaningful action. They view it as the meaningful action itself, like holding the sign is doing something on it's own. The classic audience of comic books is falling off, dying off, and the new audience doesn't give a crap about comic books. So companies try to pander, in the hopes that they somehow find out what the new audiences like about comic books.
By the looks of it by now, the old audiences are insufficient to keep the industry afloat, and the new audiences mostly care about manga, so the comic book companies are flailing around like a headless chicken, throwing shit at the walls and looking to see what sticks, NOTHING STICKS, but they still have shit to throw for now before they finally give up or go bankrupt.

Black Sails is the last time I've seen "diversity" done right. I could guess the writers politics quite easily. But I can also tell the time and effort they put in actually crafting a very complicated story that made sense from beginning to end. I'm bi and I hate how companies pretend to care, but clearly only see us as pandering material. They'll make a preexisting character gay, or they'll make a new gay character but their whole personality is "I'm gay" I remember watching The Owl House and seeing the main character was bisexual and it felt natural, it didn't feel forced and they had an actual personality. This types of comics are the reason as to why comics are declining and I'm sad.
This is why I stopped my kids from reading certain comics, I don't want them pushing these kinds of shit in my kids heads.

I love how one larger twitter page got pissed that people said comics are failing and pulled up a chart with good numbers but...Manga wasn't its own category and instead listed under comics. When people brought it up the people defending western comics said "Manga is comics too". Isn't that cultural appropriation or however they call it?

Anime is just Japanese animation. Animations are just cartoons. So to say that manga is a graphic novel, is accurate. It’s just Japanese and people who aren’t woke will use it to describe JAPANESE comics.

There is NO probably. They have the smartest tech people, the strongest magic users, and some of the most power beings in the universe on there side. And they all know for a FACT aliens exist so other planets that are inhabitable are on the table. They could easily find, create, or terraform a new planet if they wanted to. AS WELL AS fix there owe planet in a few days since the have things like the parliament (the green, the red, etc)

I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. Now, was I always good at it? No, but I’m much better now than I was back then. At this point I basically just need to learn how to draw in an acceptable “comic book” style.
