This was the song my grandfather and grandmother, Russell & Zelle, courted to! They were teenagers when it was popular, and he called her his Peg, for this song. 😍 He died in 1946, leaving her a widow...she remarried later, but Russell was the love of her life. She lived to a ripe old age, dying in 1985.
"Oh, my heart's in a whirl over one little girl I love her, I love her, yes, I do Although her heart is far away I hope to make her mine some day Ev'ry beautiful rose, ev'ry violet knows I love her, I love her fond and true And her heart fondly sighs, as I sing to her eyes Her eyes of blue, sweet eyes of blue, my darling Peg o' my Heart, I love you We'll never part, I love you Dear little girl, sweet little girl Sweeter than the Rose of Erin Are your winning smiles endearin' Peg o' my Heart, your glances With Irish art entrance us Come, be my own, come, make your home in my heart When your heart's full of fears And your eyes full of tears I'll kiss them, I'll kiss them all away For, like the gold that's in your hair Is all the love for you I bear Oh, believe in me, do I'm as lonesome as you I miss you, I miss you all the day Let the light of live shine from your eyes into mine And shine for aye, sweetheart for aye, my darling Peg o' my Heart, I love you We'll never part, I love you Dear little girl, sweet little girl Sweeter than the Rose of Erin Are your winning smiles endearin' Peg o' my Heart, your glances With Irish art entrance us Come, be my own, come, make your home in my heart" Courtesy of Lyrics Playground :)
What a lovely little gem! A beautiful voice singing a beautiful song beautifully! Le sigh! I don’t care if I sound like a music snob...It’s just so refreshing to hear “pop”music where everyone HAD to have actual talent! Not like the modern, completely produced in the studio with knobs and buttons dilittentes we are subjected to today!
The actress who jumped off the Hollywood sign and fell to her death, Peg Entwistle, was born Lillian Entwistle...she went by Peg because of "Peg o' My Heart."...when she still had so much hope. She lost it, and decided to take her own life. But her name comes from this.
That's history, beatiful history. Thank you for the uploading. This tune has a happy-but-melancholic atmosphere that I enjoy so much. Cheers from Brasil!
@shatinterry Yes, as you can see in my description, many versions became hits, including a large number when the song made a comeback in 1947. This is one of those songs that kept coming back through the years. Thank for commenting, Terry!
A lyric from the song ‘Bosom Buddies’ from the musical Mame brought me here. Interesting, Jerry Herman seems to have borrowed the musical refrain for the lyric “my dear…” into his own song.
horror movies took songs like this and black and white tv for that matter and convinced the last 40 years of people that its creepy? personally i like these old school songs so if i ever went to a horror movie and they played something like this i would probably be doing a little dance while everyone else shivers in fear XD
Until the Baby Boomers came on the scene, there didn't seem to be music teens had all to themselves. The Fifties and Sixties took care of that! I suppose the time was right. Many songwriters were teenagers, which meant the market for "our" music expanded. The transistor radio meant we could listen to our music everywhere!
I swear I was born in the wrong generation. 15yrs old and I only listen to oldies wishing I’d be dancing with my gal in n masquerade balls, off social media, and overall live a moderately happy life

This is why youtube's so good. Finding things like this is so easy! Great song and thanks for posting!
Thank you for posting! Downton Abbey brought me to this song. William played it on piano when he was sad about Daisy ☺️
This actually makes me swoon a little!!
There is something about your eyes...
Thanks very much for posting! One of my Grandma's favorites. She used to ask me to sing it to her - she'd play piano. Very sweet memories.
"Oh, my heart's in a whirl over one little girl
I love her, I love her, yes, I do
Although her heart is far away
I hope to make her mine some day
Ev'ry beautiful rose, ev'ry violet knows
I love her, I love her fond and true
And her heart fondly sighs, as I sing to her eyes
Her eyes of blue, sweet eyes of blue, my darling
Peg o' my Heart, I love you
We'll never part, I love you
Dear little girl, sweet little girl
Sweeter than the Rose of Erin
Are your winning smiles endearin'
Peg o' my Heart, your glances
With Irish art entrance us
Come, be my own, come, make your home in my heart
When your heart's full of fears
And your eyes full of tears
I'll kiss them, I'll kiss them all away
For, like the gold that's in your hair
Is all the love for you I bear
Oh, believe in me, do
I'm as lonesome as you
I miss you, I miss you all the day
Let the light of live shine from your eyes into mine
And shine for aye, sweetheart for aye, my darling
Peg o' my Heart, I love you
We'll never part, I love you
Dear little girl, sweet little girl
Sweeter than the Rose of Erin
Are your winning smiles endearin'
Peg o' my Heart, your glances
With Irish art entrance us
Come, be my own, come, make your home in my heart"

Listening to this and other lovely 1900s pieces beside the fire with coffee and a good book makes for a very calming and slightly spooky atmosphere.
Great song and rendition, standing the passage of time!
I agree! My great uncle mentioned it in a letter to his father in 1914.
I used to listen to this song on my grandmothers wax cylinder record player......

Wow I didn't know that.
How many times did I hear this on variety shows in the 50's and 60's If I only had a dollar. But I never knew the history till now.
My name's Peg(gy), & my mom used to sing this song, while playing sheet music on piano, when I was a wee lass in the very early 50's.❤💖💕

105 years later.
Found this song in one of my grandma's CDs of 40s music but I found the best version of it
no doubt a charted number back in those days...
Downton Abbey brought me here
Did the new generation destroyed the beautiful old songs culture?
Nice one!!!
The original! I love the Tony Williams version of this. So many great covers.
I wish I could of knew these songs years ago
We'll never part, I love you.

You're the peg of my heart Reem.
Children's Music!❤
i love this
This song is a good one in 1913
Grandfather Bill referred to grandmother Frances as "Peg" in honor of this song, throughout 54 years of marriage.
