Another great informative video, interesting camera set up must have been a test editing. Great video entering the ship. I’ve experienced Norwegian winters, so looking forward to your next instalment.
Thanks Stewart, I'm glad you liked it. In total I had five cameras with me (plus mobile phones). The biggest challenge with that while we were away was that I kept all of the dashcam footage which meant saving a copy every evening. In total there was over a a terabyte of video. But it was useful to have in the edit as it meant I always had something to show how we got from one place/scene to another. The 360 camera entering the ship came out just as I had hoped. It would have been very difficult to get that shot any other way. Working on episode two now but it's taking a while due to some unforeseen events, but it will be out hopefully in a week or so.
We love going to Sweden. Been to the arctic circle 3 times with our caravan. We usually go from channel tunnel to just inside the Denmark border in 1 day. It’s usually about 10-12 hours driving by achievable. We drive all the way around as I find it’s cheaper on fuel than the ferry and can keep moving vs the ferry where there is alot of waiting and then the crossing. It’s a ferry I would like to do one day. Getting the regular pass for the oresund bridge halves the cost. We have 3 videos on our channel of going to Sweden. 1 was in winter down to -26c and 2000 miles towing on the snowy motorways. We got to see Santa on Christmas Eve eve leaving for his journey around the world. Sweden is an amazing country. Just love it.
Hello...the Puttgarden-Rödby route saves time and fuel even Rostock-Gedser not forgetting the direct link Travemunde or Rostock to Trelleborg do compared to the alternative to drive through to Jutland and over the costly Storebält bro ( Great belt bridge) between Fyn and Sjaeland. Either way is expensive but some routes are less tiring!
The last time I crossed the Great Belt Fixed Link it connected the islands of Funen and Zealand. It actually crosses a stretch of water called the Great Belt.
Was that before 2000? There is a bridge from the island of Funen (Fyn in Danish) to the island of Zealand. Called the Great Belt Bridge. Named after the stretch of water as you say. In combination with the newer (by two years) Oresund bridge, it forms the great belt fixed link. The names do seem somewhat interchangeable and at one point I was going to list all of them. But I think that version didn't make the edit. Sorry if I ended up giving the wrong name.
A £100 one way to cross the Great Belt Link tunnel/bridge between is steep!! The combined length is 18km, whereas the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line which is also a tunnel, man-made island, bridge configuration has a combined length of just over 23km. Yet, we pay far, far, far less to cross it. Even with a caravan in tow, which is the same price as commercial vehicles if the trailer is a single axle (or a twin axle with less than a metre span between axles) and towed by an ordinary vehicle (Your Toyota LanCru Prado and my Land Rover Discovery would be ordinary vehicles). If the tow vehicle is a pickup (i.e. commercial) and is towing then the prices will be the same as for HGV vehicles. Even the HGV price is far lower than the Great Belt Link price.
Yeah it was pricey, but the alternative is (I think from memory) to drive up thru Denmark and catch a ferry across to Helsingborg which is about £50 one way for a car. ( and I couldn't find a price for trailers so it may not allow them.)
It sounds like you are not far from me and as a recently retired person thinking of buying a caravan can you recommend a storage yard in the Thorpe-le-Soken / Manningtree area?
Closest storage yard that I know of (had friends that used to store there) is Guardian Secure Storage at Marks Tey. We are further west so probably too far for you to store at.
It's such a shame there isn't a direct uk/scandinavia ferry. Even Netherlands to Norway/Sweden is lacking. I'd love to go over in my car but don't fancy 2 days continuous driving each way.
There used to be a ferry. Many years ago as a child we travelled to Norway by ferry from the UK. But they shut those services down quite a few years back. I suspect around the same time that they built the tunnel and bridge. I did find a cargo ferry but it left from North England, took several days and was, as I recall, more than double the price of the crossing we took. Also you are not technically allowed to use it without proof that you are in a commercial vehicle.
there is a new ferry being built and will hopefully go into operation next year which will go from Newcastle to Norway west of Oslo. It will be more of a cruise ship come ferry.
@@TheGramophoneGirlit’s even more west than that. It’s near Stavanger. Strange location for a ferry to dock really. If it does go ahead, their web site says that booking will open this year for next year….. I’m yet to find anywhere to make a booking…

First timer to your channel. Very impressed with quality and format. Vicarious travel vlog at its best.
Thankyou I'm really glad you liked it. Episode 2 is taking a while but hopefully will be out in a few weeks.

@@thewobbleboxers8431 I hope so, but fear not. It would be great to get over there by car. When you say west of Oslo do you mean Kristiansand?

You should buy your food in Germany
Any particular reason? We were only in Germany for one night and didn't really have the time to shop as we were just passing thru.
Doesn't speak the international language of the world.. Brexit hasn't been forgotten or forgiven in Germany i suspect!!!.🤣🤣
In Sweden (after spending 7 months trying to learn Swedish) we couldn't find anyone that didn't insist in speaking English to us.🤣
