Fackme 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Alex is fantastic and it was 1977 he was the first doing something like that 2 brothers 2 amazing musicians Thank you Brian respect 🤩
Brian, you really need to post more video's of you drumming. Not drumming with a band but just you behind the set doing various grooves and even drumming to various songs such as this one. We need more video from you. Awesome drumming Brian !!!!
Juat perfect! Ive watched this dozens of times. I never caught the snare hh thing coming out of the solo @1:47 when I've covered it. Excellent! Also the fact that you lead with your left foot really boggles my mind (and I play open handed)
Awesome job! Spot on, every snare and bass drum hit, the swing on the ride in the chorus, the drum fills sounds exactly like the album! Very cool how you got all of Alex's nuances!
Bro, fantastic job on not only the playing but the tone and feel. So many try that song and fall short on the little nuances that make Alex Alex, very impressive. Hope you use your skills in original music too man. You got some tone bro
This is awesome! Brian knows how to play it. Wow!!! A lot of great drummers will not drum this like Brian does. It ain't easy but every hit is like the original. Alex is/was an underated drummer that's for sure. Hope to see more from you Brian!!!
Amazing job Brian. For some reason, I never heard the double pedal in this song before. I always thought he played single pedal on this. I always learn something when I watch your videos. Snare sounds phenomenal. I agree with you on how great Alex has been. He's in my top three also.
@@HushAngel yes it has a nice bark and nice throat. I just found a duplicate Leedy 5x15 1965 blue satin and bought it … it has the same qualities ! (This snare was a blue satin before I removed the wrap back in the 80’s! )
Both heads on the lower side as it has a hole and a small towel in it. Toms= bottom head pretty tight , top heads not as tight .. a little above medium ish / until you get the desired note
Leedy snares have their own tone as well. It’s pretty unique. But this one that I’ve had since I was 9, seems to have even more “throat” than I’ve heard in other Leedy snares...
@@bigirishe usually maybe just one little hand towel against the reso , but it depends on the heads … the batter is prob an amb , so may have a little towel inside resting on it or outside under the pedal to muffle a little extra ring for recording
Of course, Alex was the master of the double bass drum pedal but not the only one. To do this very-fast-driving hard rock number on the drums, you need to know not only triplets in and out, you need to know other parts of compound meter/shuffle mastery to do this well. That is, if you "eat, drink, and sleep triplets" - you will get this down! The original recording of "I'm the One" goes roughly around 208 bpm, but I think it is 215-220 bpm to the quarter. Tip to do that double-kick shuffle groove if you are L foot dominant - if your L foot is the strong foot, do the quarter notes on the first bass pedal, and then with the 3rd triplet after the quarter, use the R foot on that second bass pedal. Use a sort of "flam action" on both feet - there needs to be a one-triplet gap or close to it - to get those shuffle triplets not just right, but "thundering right!"
First, outstanding performance. Second, it's such a shame the bass drums didn't have a better sound/mix on this song from VHI. If they had, people would have really been in awe of Alex early on.
Alex Van Halen is so underrated.
This is soooooo good! Brian has all the little nuances that a lot of guys would miss. He's just a massive drummer.

Same thing I thought. So many try but just get through it. This dude pays attention to the inbetweens that make Alex so good.
@@mikes51501 absolutely! Alex had a ton of cool nuances in his drum style!
Awesome job Brian .... And a fine tribute to The King Of The Rocket-Boogie Al V. H.
Thanks. Made my day. Spot on. One if the finest American drummers. Krupa, Rich, Cobham, Van Halen 🇺🇸

They didn't have double kick pedals when this was recorded
This is amazing Brian!
Absolutely freakin’ nailed it!

Love the fact the only parts where there isn't double bass is the pre chorus, and drop down part... great work out for the legs :)
Nice shuffle.
Superb 👏
HELL YEAH!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Wow, totally killed it....that snare tone, omg...i read below it's a vintage Leedy ?...

How is the bass tuned and muffled? Do you tune the tom heads evenly top bottom?

Great job Brian! What ride are you using in this video? I just got a 2002 24" Ride!!!!
Man, I was like green monster kit with some Van Halen - sweet! Haha that snare is sick - does it have the old school stick chopper rims on it?
Thx. I don’t know what chopper rims are. But the bottom rim I believe is the original and the top is die cast...
You are a killer
Superb drumming. He plays it even better than Alex !
DO DAMN GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!
Forgot how good Alex is
And it was 1977 he was the first doing something like that
Damn man, snare tone kicks ass. What ride cymbal is that by the way?
Great playing!

Use a sort of "flam action" on both feet - there needs to be a one-triplet gap or close to it - to get those shuffle triplets not just right, but "thundering right!"
Additional tip - for the strong foot, use a stronger action, for the weak other foot, use a sort of lighter action.
The trash-can outro of course starts with a cymbal trill, then the double bass drum trill, then working the kit, and then, da "crash out."
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
