This is a song that really hit me on a second listen and stuck with me. This is off their first studio album Punch that came out early 2010's. I was listening through and this track and the closing track Heartbreaker really stuck out. I first heard it 2020, middle of lockdown and with some other stuff happening at the time it really hit me. The vocalist is definitely what grabbed my attention the most. On the slower tracks on this album there is a tendency to go on more runs at the end of phrases and some vibrato as well, but a bit more sparse than on this song. On their later works especially there is less of a tendency to "wander".

I really do love this song. I think the musical simplicity is part of the charm, honestly, I feel like I can just disassociate and kinda exist within the song

An interesting theme for the week would be vocalists/songs with unique vibratos. This singer also has some proto-yodeling technique going on also. Very unique and interesting timbre throughout, his voice really carries the music with the instruments just providing background cushioning.

This was a good track. Not what I normally listen to but this was pretty cool. I dig the vocals and instrumentation.

Very much enjoyed the departure from the standard, but similarly I'd probably struggle to listen to those vocals much more, across a full album, but this was fine as a single track. Am going to give some more a listen...
Well, I listened to some more and did enjoy Heartbreaker (very similar), but disliked the later work which had less warble and more pop influence. Just not my thing at all. Remined me of the 1980's for some reason.

The music started out pretty blandly cliched, sounding the kind of typical "folky buildup" track you'd hear in a movie soundtrack trying to evoke anxious anticipation, but I really appreciated the unique approach to the vocal lines, especially once they brought the harmonies in. Definitely a nice little track, even if I found myself wishing for more interesting background music to support the vocals.
