Am I the only one who gets a weird type of nostalgia from this song for some reason. It sounds like something I would've listen to as a kid. It reminds me of my childhood. Playing basketball. Tag. First crushes. First time getting rejected. Bullies. Crazy thing is I'd do it all again 😢.

This song makes me visualize a short videotape of a summer spent with close friends in a grassland under some trees eating and drinking, all recorded with an old camera that gives such a vintage effect and feeling.
The more I listen to this song I relate to it.
At the beginning he wants to be alone, he likes it. He takes for granted the woman who loved him.
Then in the second verse he is now wishing he wasn’t alone and realizing that he lost something good.
That’s my interpretation but I could be wrong. Maybe I’m attributing it to myself.

I think it’s going through the breakup with his ex and he should have seen some red flags earlier on. Like when he says “and you lost the things that brought us closer” as if it’s her fault it didn’t work. I feel like this song actually might be about him getting cheating on, like he became famous so he didn’t have time for a chick and she cheated. Like when he says “finding out the hard way”, as if she didn’t tell him he found out. And then the next couple lines is him trying to justify and come to terms with being single. All the way up until he says “ save me some, she said love. You could’ve called it something else, but I couldn’t think of nothing else for real. Cause it was hard to tell.” Basically saying he still liked her even after but she ruined what they had. Then he goes on to say “make it easy for me” which I assume is the relationship ending. Then says “these days don’t end” cause they live on in his memory. “And you lost the things that brought us closer, we’re spread so thin, and that’s all it takes to knock you over.” Here I believe he’s saying like you ruined it, and our relationship is rocky and way, and now that I know the truth your lies push over you. And the rest of the song is him coming to terms with the end of it. He then also says “it wasn’t for yourself, I still don’t know how you felt for real, baby. ‘Cause it was hard to tell, you can’t blame me.” So it seems like he just stopped talking to her, and ghosted her? And he never really understood why she did it, but he also never asked/ didn’t want to know? He then says “I don’t put in a act for everybody” basically saying he’s putting on a fake smile after it’s all done. He then says “it wouldn’t brake your back to stay beside me” basically saying how hard is it to be loyal. “Forever anymore was tantalizing” saying he saw a future but it is now unobtainable with her. “I try to force a smile but can’t deny that” he wants to be happy but my man still hurt rip
