Ballistics, slower and lighter never penetrates more than heavier and faster. MATH. I choked on my coffee when you said 3 jugs for the pellet, loved it.
Another important thing about air pellets, they don't have the sectional density or weight of a regular bullet of the same caliber so they won't carry as much energy, even if velocity was equal. Great video! I have a Gamo .177 spring-piston and when I 'diesel' it, it goes from 770fps to 990fps with a 10.5gr. pellet.

Great video as always. I received an Avenge-X for Christmas and did this test with it. I was shooting Crosman Premier .22 HP at 14.3 gr. Shooting @890 f.p.s. At 20 yards it shot thru a single milk jug. It would also shoot thru a Simply Orange jug with the thicker plastic at the same distance. So far the Avenge-X has a squirrel and 3 sparrows to its credit. They are awesome!!!
I have a .177 cal pellet rifle that shoots around 1,000 fps advertised. I shot a 1 gal water jug at 25 yards and it zipped right through both sides. Never tried 2 jugs. I was impressed it went clean through.
Pretty impressive pellet for sure. I don't think I've ever seen one expand that well before. Might need to try those in my break barrel. I usually use JSB pellets because of their accuracy.
Keep in mind bullet weights too. I saw a test where a guy did a soft clay test between the two but he used a .25 caliber PCP airgun because it is closer to the equivalent of a 22 LR and it's still amazing the extra damage the LR did. It went straight through the clay block and left about an inch hole with a 3-4 inch crater on the inlet side and the .25 pellet might have went all the way through I can't remember but it was no hole and only had about a 1-1/2 inch crater. And I love PCP airguns I recently acquired a Korean lever action in .25. it's awesome and powerful but overall a 22 LR still beats it. But to know it's power people readily hunt smaller hogs with .25 caliber PCP airguns. Part of that is airguns obviously have limitations so headshots are a must.

I'd like to see a closer comparison velocity wise. Maybe your Avenger vs some of the CCI Quite 22 subsonics. I think the Quite version is around 800-900 fps.
Better would be to try it against a modern air rifle that can shoot 40 gram slugs at 1040 fps. Sure, the .22 is still going to be a little more powerful, but the air rifle is pretty close, and 200 slugs cost $15, while 200 LR costs about $100.
I would love to see more of a hunting pellet come out on the market. Softer lead on the inside and copper coated. I've been testing a bunch of different ones on my trapline and in a live animal I think a better pellet would be a good combo with these new rifles. Perhaps a Remington core lock pellet!😍
That Bugara is a sweet rifle. I am not familiar with the brand of PCP you used but I'm just going to bet you can shoot a tighter group with it at 25 or even 50 yards than you can with the rimfire. Off the bench, fully supported on both rifles of course. I think you will be surprised. Love your vids, man.
Today I did my own milk jug test with my 5.56 Ruger Ranch using Barnes TTX bullets I only had 5 jugs so I put a 3/4 inch piece of plywood in front of the jugs the bullet went through the plywood and stopped in the last jug it retained its original 70 grains and expanded perfectly . The Barnes TTX copper bullets are very accurate and the penetration was more than I expected, should make a very good hunting bullet for medium-sized game including deer out to 250 yards. You should give them a try. P S Love your videos.
Cool comparison. You should revisit the same test and use an airgun slug hollow point. Then you have slug versus slug, and turn up the power on the Avenger to get 950 plus FPS. Use at least a 30 grain aigun slug. 30.5 grain ZAN slug in .218 diameter.
Exactly. Man air guns can shoot a 40 grain slug at 1040 fps or more. Many people don't really understand how poweful air rifles have gotten. Now the .22 slug will not be quite as powerful as the .22 LR, but considering you can buy 200 for $15 vs $100 for the same number of .22 LR. I have been shooting air rifles for three decades and I would never go back to powder for just plinking around or for light game. (I can buy 500 .22 hollowpoints for $7. Wow!

I have a rim-fire air rifle that was factory made by Crossman to only shoot .22 pellets. They have made (most air rifle companies) these guns for decades.
Good test video WTW. The results are about what I expected. If you want to do another test, then use a .22LR with a solid bullet. I think the solid round-nose .22 LR will go further than the hollow point .22 LR. cartridge. Maybe, next time use an air rifle powered by a pump-up/handle instead of an air compressor tank gizmo. Not all of us can afford an air-compressor gun.
Maybe one more test? Fire the air pellet out of the rifle using a power hammer blank cartridge. Should get some awesome speeds and damage. Let us know if you try it. Great video...as always!!

The 2nd and 3rd milk jugs were touching, or it would prob. have penetrated into the third. If you want penetration with a pellet rifle, you need solid ammo. Now you need to "Diesel" that pellet. A drop of oil in the air cavity. Using my Gammo Maxxim shooting at a 2x10 a standard shot penetrated 4/32in. After adding the drop of oil, it penetrated 21/32in. Apparently the oil ignites and fires that pellet out like a .22L. I've broken the sound barrier creating a crack that any gun guy would swear id just shot a .22LR!
I always like to mess around with the 177 and the 22 pellet rifle. I put some vicks vaporub In the back side of the pellets. An then check the speed difference. Some people call it dieseling. You don't have to fill it to up half way to 3/4. It will be faster then the 22 LR. Just to let you know don't use some cheap pellet rifle. At 50 yards I can get a 1 to 1 1/2 inch Group. I don't know if you can show this on TH-cam. It sounds like you're shooting a 22 LR. It a fun thing to mess around with.

Your heavy breathing sounds like mine before my heart stent. You are a handy guy building that fun property. Shame if the next guy gets to enjoy it. OR, what if he's a gun hater ?
Air rifles are great for backyard practice. You can use a suppressor to mute the sound but I have to say WOW are they expensive! I'm in the wrong business lol
That air rifle is a low power rifle. There are plenty of air rifles with greater power/velocity that are closer to the rimfire. Also, the weight of the lr projectile is twice that of the pellet. That is a doubly unfair comparison. If you used a slug in the air rifle and a high-power air rifle it would be a fairer comparison. A better comparison would be an FX Impact with slugs verses the .22 lr.
The chronograph of the air rifle .22 is slightly higher than a 32 grain 22LR CCI Stinger being shot by a North American Arms (NAA) with a 1.13" barrel (this tiny revolver can fit into a pack of cigarettes, 100's). Comparing these two in milk jugs (or anything else) would be incredibly fascinating! I wish more 22LR comparisons used the NAA 22LR, as it is basically the worst case scenario option for this round. Also the energy transfer destruction between the air rifle and 22LR was very significant. The air rifle basically just poked a hole. Whereas the 22LR caused a small explosion in the first jug. Would these results be the same with a 22LR being shot at roughly the same velocity as the air rifle?
36 grains at 850fps is less than half the energy of the 36 grain at 1280fps 57 ft lbs vs 131, and that crow mangum pellet is 18 grains at 850fps so its only 28 ft/lbs of energy.
You should try the CCI 22 Quiets, those would be a fair match with the pellet gun, very similar velocity. And compare the Quiets with the CCI Stingers, see what kind of difference velocity really makes. 👍😉
I think you would find more penetration, possibly if you used a non-expanding pellet. Some pellets even have a sharp pointed head that you could try as comparison.
I have a FX M3 30 cal. I also have the same compressor. I am in the 950 fps range. With Diablo 44gr pellets. I seem to enjoy shooting my air more than the rim. I thought it would have went into the second jug 💫🤘
.22 air rifles are about handgun velocity, but of course a much lighter pellet/ bullet weight. For small game at short range a .22 air rifle is very capable, Hay you can even get .30 cal air rifles capable of taking deer. The .22lr is as always very effective on a lot of game, it's often dismissed as weak and almost a "toy" but it's definitely not. A lot of people have been killed by accident because others didn't think it capable of much, and disregarded a safe backstop.
They're both subsonic so I'm not surprised by the results. If the 22 long was supersonic it would've broken up and only gone as far as the pellet, I don't think the jacket on the 22 long made that much difference. I'll go with the rim fire first cause I don't want to take the time to re gas my gun all the time.
Ballistics, slower and lighter never penetrates more than heavier and faster. MATH. I choked on my coffee when you said 3 jugs for the pellet, loved it.

I always like to mess around with the 177 and the 22 pellet rifle. I put some vicks vaporub
In the back side of the pellets.
Good stuff.
I guess i follow too many people on here. I have a whole back catalog of your content, brother. I hope you're okay out there. You look warmer than a lot of other folks. 😂 it's even been cold out here. Stay warm and keep churning out this great content. 🤙🏾
Been in the 60s here for a few weeks. Appreciate you watching!
@WHOTEEWHO you gotta come check out the big island before it gets all city like. I'd rather you come have fun before it gets like Honolulu. Thanks again for everything you do, brother. 🤙🏾
WTW. I wonder if they both would make it out of the back of the jug that caught them, if the next jug was an inch away instead of them all touching.
Possible
Your heavy breathing sounds like mine before my heart stent. You are a handy guy building that fun property. Shame if the next guy gets to enjoy it. OR, what if he's a gun hater ?
Good stuff. Always like videos like this. 👍
More to come!
i would suggest doing a 22 pistol, 3 or 4 in barrel test with about the same FPS as the pellet rifle. that would be fun to see.
Thank you for the data. Can you diesel that pellet gun with chap stick?
Awesome
New subscriber. Enjoying the content!
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching!
Thanks for an enjoyable video.
Thanks for watching!
Do barrel lengths of test rifles have any significant impact on velocity?
A bit
Keep up the good videos brother
Enjoyed the video Who Tee !
🙏🙏🙏
I knew exactly what was gonna happen here but watched any way. When I was growing up I had a sheridan pellet rifle. I know what they can do vs a .22.
I have a FX M3 30 cal. I also have the same compressor. I am in the 950 fps range. With Diablo 44gr pellets. I seem to enjoy shooting my air more than the rim. I thought it would have went into the second jug 💫🤘
Adam good video, if you really want to see good expansion from a pellet gun, try some zan slugs, rgds steve
I’ll predict that it would even be close. At all.
those jugs remind me of the old plastic drinks they used to sell at the store :)
Have you seen the Slugs for air rifles? I would like to see the difference in performance. Reg vs slugs
.22 air rifles are about handgun velocity, but of course a much lighter pellet/ bullet weight.
Weight difference in projectiles made the difference IMO. Good Job wtw
You should do a comparison of the 22 air rifle vs 22CB.. they're both going pretty much the same speed
An Avenger is a regulated rifle with power adjustments. What was your power setting?
Which one would I pick? Thank God I live in a state with freedom. I can pick both.
Those 50 cal air rifles are pretty cool.
Absolutely
Have you tried, the non lead pellets ?
They're both subsonic so I'm not surprised by the results. If the 22 long was supersonic it would've broken up and only gone as far as the pellet, I don't think the jacket on the 22 long made that much difference. I'll go with the rim fire first cause I don't want to take the time to re gas my gun all the time.
I think a .22 short, if you can find them, is going to be closer to an air rifle. Weren’t they usually around 800-900fps?
Yea, shorts are around that velocity. There’s also super calibra that are around 600.
Interesting video, thanks
Thanks for watching
If Daisy was smart thery would bring back the 922 , Improve the speed some get it up into the 750fps range
I have access to just Two Milk Juggs and certainly won't be doing that to them.
You must have been using hard water! 🤣
Battle of the 22’s
👍👍💥💥💥
try a Gamo Pro Hunter with a pointy pellet
