    I can't believe this. It worked! I was ready to throw my SP3 out the window due to frustration.
    Thank you so much. Your explanation was clear and you sound just like me.
    Microsoft should be ashamed of the list of 10 "solutions" to fix this problem.
    1. Clean the screen.
    Thanks!!!!!!

      hope it works long for you! mine de-calibrated again with time, and currently does not re-calibrate :-/ Please keep us updated if this re-appears! PS: any calls to M$ to convince them to RMA those manufacturing imperfections would be appreciated, too, ..!

      @@renerebe when i run the calibg4 file.. There is nothing popup like the program is running (like yours).. So i wouldn't know either it is running or not

  • @renerebe
    @renerebe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Important update: the calibg4 tool was not permanently perfect, I now have run it again with wifi and bluetooth off (airplane mode), and power disconnected and it is a little better again, but still not perfect! Older notes still apply:
    It is probably best to run the CalibG4.exe from the cmd.exe command line. It should print PASS at the end, if it prints something else (FAIL or so) it probably did not update the hardware calibration values.
    The last months my SP3 had a bad time, and I could not calibrate the phantom touches away anymore, however, today I noticed it phantom touched a bit less, and re-running the calibration tool finally calibrated it a bit better again. Let's see how long it lasts this time unit the random phantom touches return.
    I think Microsoft really should properly address this for their valued customers. It is not the customer fault that this designed and manufactured this random touch generator :-/
    If some displays are assembled faulty and generate too much random electro static or so, they should really RMA change the display for us users for free, ..!

    • @renerebe
      @renerebe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joseph Dogan to me it inevitable looks like hardware failing best contact Microsoft. You can try the calibration, but usually it does not help long if at all :-/

    • @renerebe
      @renerebe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joseph Dogan my Surface Pro 3 only became worse each month. It is unusable for a long time. I'm pretty sure there is some material degrading causing static, or noise, or something like that.

    had dead zones around my surface studio (gen1), would only respond after a few touches. just tried it and it fixed it! got error 40 when running the exe file though, but i extracted the .exe file, and then run CalibG4.exe... showed a lot of status unknown, but seems to work at the end. thank you!

    • @renerebe
      @renerebe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes outlined in my other comments below the issue also re-eppeared in mine and is worse on some days, and better on others. IMHO Microsoft deserves a class action suite for this, and should repair this out of warranty for everyone. This looks like a design defect to me, and I'm still not sure if it is hardware or only firmware software related. E.g. mine has phantom touches one day, and when left on the desk, not moved, the next day may be better. But it could still be an hardware issue of too much static charge developing, or some contacts becoming loose or so, or entirely an software calibration problem. But the way Microsoft is handling this by doing nothing is not worthy for a multi billion dollar company. And again, as this appears to be an inherent design defect of all, even older n-trig devices, this should be fixed for all of us for free.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH, IT IS 2020 AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY!
    i had the same issue with surface pro 3, the dead zones seem to touch on their own from time to another, so i knew it was a software issue.
    however i downloaded the files from sony and it worked perfeclty www.sony.com/electronics/support/downloads/W0009338
    it is really disappointing that microsoft doesn't really help with this topic, neither their tech support.
    all this happened to me after i tried to calibrate my surface screen because it wasn't so much accurate when pressing small button on google chrome or so on, so i followed the steps on Microsoft page, and after a reboot or two this issue came out of the blue, i tried many things including reinstalling the touch screen driver and updating it, but nothing worked unfortunately, but finally this one worked!!
    you made my day man! thanks.

    • @renerebe
      @renerebe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      while it might look like a software issue, I think it is a hardware degrading effect. E.g. I and many others also can no longer calibrate this way. I suspect something in the bonding oxidating, static charges or something of that sort over time. Really sad.
