    Hey I’m Andrew The Once A Day Farmer, I farm alongside my father on my family dairy farm in New Zealand.
    Our Dairy system is quite unique as we only milk our 320 jersey cows Once A Day (hence the name), and they stay outside on grass for 365 days of the year!!

    How lucky you are to live and work where you do. It's summer here and we're under a heat advisory with temps over 100 fahrenheit. Love your country.

    Can you pipe those ditches, if you can find some soil to fill the ditch in.

    Hi Andrew great video. I agree with you tidying up around deer shed would look mint. Hard to believe it will not be long till season starts all over again. Oh just a suggestion maybe you might want to better explain about the cow crush as you talk about crushing the cow just in case someone that's not in the know freaks out

    Loving the change in routine and weather. Fixing all the fences that have been hammered in recent floods.
    Skipping the big fielddays this year, might go to the Manawatu one next year.

    Arh yes deer, i think it was the mid nineties that Deer farming sort became the new 'thing' , had a little popularity rage for a wee while, same with ostrich farming, remember mum and dad going to the feildays and trying the meat, in the end we converted the farm to dairy, in the days when beef was terrible.

    We put collars on our cow's last week. We don't have a good headlock. We just put them up the race and reached over top rail. Worked fine

    Among the budget headbails for cattle the Leask Engineering (waikato) cam-action headbail is a fairly good basic headbail. The headbail could do with a gate in front of them for the frisky calves, when doing zinc boluses etc.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to have a look cheers 👍

      Having used a Leask cam headbail for 2 and a half decades, I started to remember the downsides, the cam lever arm when in the down 'animal hold' position, impedes staff movement around the front of the animal etc. For efficiency and staff effort input, one might look at the walk through type headbails as a first option now. There are many headbails on the market 1) Stronghold (HD Headbail) (Warkworth and Tirau) 2) Farmquip (Hawkes Bay) 3) Technipharm (NZ) 4) Te Pari (South Island) 5) Premium Stockyards (Rolleston) 6) The Wrangler (Whakatane) 7) Kiwi Cattleyards (The Boss headbail) (Levin) 8) Arrowquip (Australia-Global) etc

    Why do you not put a tile or conduit where your water ways are between your paddocks Andrew?

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because there’s so much flow drains work better I think
