  • www.mindfulwin... -- Some great points and fun footage about Chi Sau. Chu Shong Tin teaches in a seminar at Mindful Wing Chun in Hong Kong in 2012.
    *A note about this channel the lineage:
    Sifu Nima King is the owner and team leader of Mindful Wing Chun, a CST Wing Chun school in Hong Kong with affiliations around the world. Mindful Wing Chun is wholeheartedly dedicated to passing on the internal wing chun method as passed down by Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin who was the longest serving student of Grandmaster Ip Man. Chu Shong Tin lived with Ip Man for 5 years (1950-1955) and was coined the title ' the king of siu nim tao' by his master Ip Man.
    He was a legend in the world of Wing Chun (in particular the internal method of wing chun) and spent 64years passing it on full-time before he passed away in 2014. Nim King practiced under him in Hong Kong for 9 years and established Mindful Wing Chun under CST's guidance. Nima is also on the board of Directors for the 'Chu Shong Tin Alumni' which is a group of senior students of CST that were hand picked by him to establish the Alumni and to uphold and continue his teachings and Wing Chun legacy after he passed away.
    Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin was a very humble and low-key Wing Chun Master therefore its only after we began putting his videos online, that people started to hear about him. In fact, majority of the main Wing CHun teachers (of the Ip Man lineage) who began practice in the 50s and early 60s (apart of Leung Sheung and Lok Yiu) were trained by CST even-though they were Ip Man's students. This is due to CST being the most snr and main teacher of Ip Man's school in those days.
    Nima was lucky to start his practice under CST in 2005 because that's when CST decided to change his teaching to all internal practice so that he can pass on "Nim Tao' and 'Nim Lik' (the mind power/energy cultivated through internal Wing Chun practice) to his students.
    Nima, even though a non-chinese and much younger than the other students of CST, attained a high level of these final teachings. He now mainly teaches the seniors within this lineage and also travels around giving workshops and is working on an online program so that master CST's teaching can have a greater reach.

    This is real Wingchun. The internal aspect of Wingchun is the very reason for Wingchun to exist.

    Memories of life time! A master did the "chi" on me 17 years ago with just his 2 pinkies to demonstrate softness over my tense muscles. My feet kept sliding back the more I lowered and pushed against him. Blew my mind and see this again here gave me joy :) Keep on and keep up the good work KF brothers!
    Also the few masters who obatained this, I found that they are kind and jolly. So beware of the quiet ones! Lol

      I dont think people who dont have a kind nature will ever attain high levels in the internal arts. Even if they start as very unbalanced angry ppl, through the practice, they soften mentally and emotionally and transform into better human beings...

      Truth is a path. The direction taken once the path is found springs from the heart of the man. Chu Shong Tin had a pure heart and walked the proper way. But most walk in the opposite direction.
      Strength is not a virtue, and neither is weakness. It is how we use that strength, once discovered, the direction we walk, which determines our virtue. Some discover more than others, but the measure of a man's knowledge is not an indicator of the cleanness of a man's heart.
      A master cannot give what we do not already possess. However, he can allow us to discover what is buried within and guide us in the proper direction once we are find that path.

    Great work, Nima. Could I ask you about Sui Nim Tao question?
    I have been practicing Sui Nim Tao myself for two months by keeping two main ideas in mind: back straight and least effort. However when raising arms, I still feel quite a lot 'Tension' on my shoulder (believed to be 'anterior deltoid') comparing to other parts of my body. Please let me know if you have any suggestion.
    Best,
    Mai

    • @MindfulWingChun
      @MindfulWingChun  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Mai, thanks!
      I think its just time man! keep doing the hours as it takes a long time for the body to start letting go. One thing that may help is the idea that the upright fountain-like feeling in the spine is a coat hanger and the arms (and the rest of the body) is the coat that's hanging off it. This may help to 'place' and 'hang' the arms off which'll lead to relaxation.

    "Some great points and fun footage about Chi Sau. Chu Shong Tin teaches in a seminat at Mindful Wing Chun in Hong Kong in 2012."-please correct the spelling here ,I think you wanted to say 'seminar' instead of 'seminat'......Another one-"Nima King practiced under hin in Hong Kong for 9 years and established Mindful Wing Chun under CST's guidance."-you wanted to say him not 'hin' I think....The video is just fascinating and the body mechanism as being explained by CST is really fantastic in various cases that originates from his deep understanding of the human body and how to use it to counter situations and Sifu Nima ,you are passing them in remarkable manner I think....

    Just wondering, does this force affect inanimate objects?

    • @MindfulWingChun
      @MindfulWingChun  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      good question. Yes it does Tommy. CST was able to lift very heavy objects. He was also able to put his mass into the Wing Chun Pole. Remarkable stuff. I'm far from where he was but am slowly able to do similar (to a lesser extent) things. Il slowly post video on my own practice as I get better at it. Things like lifting heavy objects etc.

    He doesn't seem to trap the arms at all as he's so confident in his form. I'm not sure this is the best way to learn, especially if you are young and small. I learned to collapse the arm as you strike and cover/ trap with the opponents opposite arm as you strike again. And he doesn't coach the elbows in. If your elbows are out chui sau doesn't work. I'm not hating but look at his elbows, they're always in front of him pointing at the opponent.

    • @MindfulWingChun
      @MindfulWingChun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The elbows don't need to physically be on center-line if you can focus it there (i.e. have the shoulder joint aiming the tip of the elbow inwards). I know this is not easy to believe man, but its very possible. Without this ability, the elbow needs to be physically on center to protect the center-line but in this method its not like that. I know its hard to believe but this is why I keep saying that the CST method is different from other methods. And he kept saying that this is not his method, its how wing chun is meant to be. But of course if I come out saying that I will have the entire Wing Chun community on my back saying that I'm bad mouthing their method. Actually me intention is to spread the underlying, internal ideas from this art to the world. This is why when other Wing Chun teachers come across this and touch hands, they generally start incorporating this method of practice into their training.
      Witnessing that happen time and time again, is the reason why I started the Online School so that the info is accessible to all, especially to the WC teachers who are interested in the internal aspect of the art, but cant be seen in my seminars casue they will lose face (understandably so).

    • @whatever6590
      @whatever6590 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wing chun is deep actually.. for some who trains in for chisao never know what generates real power.. they only know good reflexes.. good reflexes without proper structure will easily broken. I understand what cst n ur method sifu Nima.. although i m from d other lineage.. my sigung also generates power like cst.. but i still cant do it either

      @@MindfulWingChun thanks for the reply, (only just seen it for some reason!) This internal force is very strange and not easily taught remotely but I've seen enough demonstrations of it by reputable masters that I have to accept it's existence, it just seems to be a superpower like clairvoyance or faith healing, easy to deny until you witness it 'first hand,' so to speak.

And thanks to him we know about it and have a blue print to get there, which I have been fortunate enough to have the time and opportunity to put online in our online school for the world to access for this and the future generations.
