I have very slight ptosis on my right eye since I was 18 and now im 20. Will this ptosis stay like this or will it worsen over time as I age and drop more and more? What can I do to prevent it from worsening? I dont want to go through surgery considering the side effects and also because it doesn’t affect my vision just yet. Risk hai, lekin chota sa. 95% cases mein eye adjust ho jata hai. 5% cases mein dry spots ki wajah se additional drops ya surgery karna padta hai. Sau mein ek ka surgery reverse bhi karna pad sakta hai.

The fact that you are talking about a sling means the patient has severe ptosis. And for severe ptosis, no matter which sling material you use, the ptosis is bound to recur. Expecting a permanent result in a sling is science fiction.

I'm 40 years old and I had congenital ptosis on one eyelid... an operation was performed when I was 3 years old (surgical shortening of the muscle - a method with a scar on the eyelid).. the eyelid behaves differently after operation... it opens when i sleeping , I have to fit this eyelid, so that it stays closed for night......when i looking down ,my eyelid is more open than the healthy eye...years later my operated eyelid not looking good
All the findings you have described are classic post operative expected outcomes and are limitations of this surgery. It is wrong to believe that surgery will make your eyelid like the other eye. It does NOT. It only improves symmetry in straight gaze and side gaze. In downgaze, it will look odd. So the surgery does not solve your problem, it simply changes it. This has to be discussed in details before surgery by each surgeon.

Third nerve is the most challenging situation for the patient and doctor alike. In most cases, a satisfactory correction cannot be achieved. However,r you can meet a squint specialist for the same.

If it is congenital and severe/moderate, you will have downsize lag and incomplete closure of the eye as long as the surgery is successful. In severe cases, a typical surgery lasts for 2-4 years only, and requires revision thereafter. So short answer: Do not expect 'full' recovery with exact symmetry to other eye. That is possible ONLY while looking straight.

No. If your ptosis is since birth, incomplete closure of the eye after a successful surgery is inevitable. It is not a complication, but a side-effect. There is no surgery without this side effect.
Hi Doctor, I am not sure if you’ll see my comment since the video was made 2 years ago and I just found about you. I have a congenital Ptosis on my left eye and it’s pretty different in size compared to my right eye .. I am unable to look upwards without tilting my head high so I am considering a surgery but have a hard time selecting the best Surgeon in this field for assurance to a successful surgery . The more important issue isn't about the cost or which surgeon, but about being able to fully understand the limitations of ptosis surgery when performed for congenital ptosis. Many patients have the mis conception that it will blink and move like the other eye. Unfortunately, surgery can only increase its static position in straight gaze. In down and u-gaze, it will look odd or asymmetric. Also, surgery for severe ptosis has a limited life, and requires revisions. As long as you understand this, the surgeon does not matter much, as results are comparable when you choose an eye plastic surgeon.

Myasthenia gravis is treated medically with tablets. In majority of cases, surgery is not required. However, if your eyelid muscle is slipped from its normal place (disinsertion), you may be the rare myasthenic patient where a surgery may help. Only an actual check up can answer if you are the right candidate for surgery. Rarely, sling surgery may be done in cases where medications aren't helping.

Hello, sir. I tried to study about this disease as one of my close friend has this disease. Most studies have stated that in case of LPS resection, downgaze lag resolves within 3 months. Is this problem for lifetime or really resolves in most cases?
If your ptosis is since birth, the downgaze lag stays. Yes, it may improve a bit during the first 3 months of healing, but it can never match the normal eye.

If your ptosis is not since birth, it is of the 'acquired' type. Commonest reason for the same is a slipped levator muscle. It can be corrected by surgery. Exact details on what to expect can only be shared upon actual checkc up and measurements.

You can try Upneeq eye drops. They are however only available in the USA. An alternative is Brimonidine eye drop, which may lift the eyelid for an hour or two. In case you plan to use it for an important social event, first try it out before that. Use it on your important day ONLY if the trial worked.

There is no scientific basis for the advice you received. Ptosis surgery can be performed at anytime, or any age, for one of the following two reasons: 1) If it is reducing vision by blocking the view (usually relevant in first 8-10 years of life) 2) If the ptosis is cosmetically bothering the patient

Yes, it cannot be avoided. The blink Weill be incomplete, and so will be the eye closure during sleep. However, our eye is an amazing organ and it usually adapts to this new environment quite well. The severity of this problem also depends upon the severity of the ptosis. Upto 95% patients get adapted to it within 2-3 months, and do not need any special care thereafter. 2-4 % however may have rednesss and dryness in the eye from time to time, especially in outdoor environment. The unlucky 1% have intolerable corneal drain,g and can require reversal of surgery in order to save vision.

If your ptosis is since birth, blink as well as closure at night will be incomplete. The more severe the ptosis, the more incomplete will be the blink, and higher will be the chance of drying and redness. So after surgery, you may look better, but may not necessarily feel better.

Legally, disability is decided by permanent vision loss, and ptosis does not come under the same. My advice would be to stop using ptosis as your disability, and consult an eye plastic surgeon to explore if it can be corrected.
Most cases of ptosis are curable, or atleast can be improved. For a new born, regular assessment of vision is more important than fixing the droopy eyelid. If the ptosis is 'congenital', incomplete closure of the eye is an inevitable side-effect that has to be accepted. It is a give and take. Without this drawback, there is no surgery. However, this is only applicable to ptosis 'by birth', and the gap depends upon the severity of ptosis. The best advice can be given by an eye plastic surgeon in actual consultation. For any ptosis from birth, after surgery you will definitely have two new problems: 1) Incomplete blinking during the day 2) Incomplete closure during the sleep. The degree of this new problem will depend upon the severity of the ptosis.

I have very slight ptosis on my right eye since I was 18 and now im 20. Will this ptosis stay like this or will it worsen over time as I age and drop more and more? Here are some of the reasons why you face delays at LV Prasad Eye Institute:
1) At LVPEI, we perform a complete examination of both eyes, and not just spectacle prescription, or cataract. Complete examination takes time.
2) The back part of the eye (retina) can only be examined after the eye aperture (pupil) is widened with specific eye drops. This can take 20-40 minutes, adding the wait period. If this step is skipped, nearly 4/5th of your eye is left out without a check up.
3) At LVPEI, we have over 20 specialists on any given day in the clinic, who specialize in different sub-sections of the eye. So if you are found to have an abnormal finding in any of them, you get an opinion from the best in that field, on the same day, at no additional cost (this is called cross consult).

Which materisl last long or prevent recurrence of ptosis
The fact that you are talking about a sling means the patient has severe ptosis. And for severe ptosis, no matter which sling material you use, the ptosis is bound to recur. Expecting a permanent result in a sling is science fiction.
@@drmilindnaik I am enquiring because my 2 month son has congenital ptosis on his right eye. It's a monolid eye. The unaffected eye is a double lid and perfectly fine. I have been told that he has moderate ptosis (3 mm). Is there anything we can do to prevent recurrence of ptosis. I'm 40 years old and I had congenital ptosis on one eyelid... an operation was performed when I was 3 years old (surgical shortening of the muscle - a method with a scar on the eyelid).. the eyelid behaves differently after operation... it opens when i sleeping , I have to fit this eyelid, so that it stays closed for night......when i looking down ,my eyelid is more open than the healthy eye...years later my operated eyelid not looking good
All the findings you have described are classic post operative expected outcomes and are limitations of this surgery. It is wrong to believe that surgery will make your eyelid like the other eye. It does NOT. It only improves symmetry in straight gaze and side gaze. In downgaze, it will look odd. So the surgery does not solve your problem, it simply changes it. This has to be discussed in details before surgery by each surgeon.

If it is congenital and severe/moderate, you will have downsize lag and incomplete closure of the eye as long as the surgery is successful. In severe cases, a typical surgery lasts for 2-4 years only, and requires revision thereafter. So short answer: Do not expect 'full' recovery with exact symmetry to other eye. That is possible ONLY while looking straight.

No. If your ptosis is since birth, incomplete closure of the eye after a successful surgery is inevitable. It is not a complication, but a side-effect. There is no surgery without this side effect.

I have a congenital Ptosis on my left eye and it’s pretty different in size compared to my right eye .. The more important issue isn't about the cost or which surgeon, but about being able to fully understand the limitations of ptosis surgery when performed for congenital ptosis. Many patients have the mis conception that it will blink and move like the other eye. Unfortunately, surgery can only increase its static position in straight gaze. In down and u-gaze, it will look odd or asymmetric. Also, surgery for severe ptosis has a limited life, and requires revisions. As long as you understand this, the surgeon does not matter much, as results are comparable when you choose an eye plastic surgeon.

I tried to study about this disease as one of my close friend has this disease. Most studies have stated that in case of LPS resection, downgaze lag resolves within 3 months. Is this problem for lifetime or really resolves in most cases?
If your ptosis is since birth, the downgaze lag stays. Yes, it may improve a bit during the first 3 months of healing, but it can never match the normal eye.

If your ptosis is not since birth, it is of the 'acquired' type. Commonest reason for the same is a slipped levator muscle. It can be corrected by surgery. Exact details on what to expect can only be shared upon actual checkc up and measurements.

You can try Upneeq eye drops. They are however only available in the USA. An alternative is Brimonidine eye drop, which may lift the eyelid for an hour or two. In case you plan to use it for an important social event, first try it out before that. Use it on your important day ONLY if the trial worked.
There is no non-surgical alternative.

During my birth I had sever ptosis now I’m 17 and my ptosis is now moderate but my doctor said to avoid any surgery till 24
There is no scientific basis for the advice you received. Ptosis surgery can be performed at anytime, or any age, for one of the following two reasons:
1) If it is reducing vision by blocking the view (usually relevant in first 8-10 years of life)
2) If the ptosis is cosmetically bothering the patient

As mentioned earlier, surgery can be performed at any age if the patient is bothered by it. Myopia has nothing to do with ptosis.

The best person to answer that is your surgeon.
After congenital surgery blinking problem is compulsory
Yes, it cannot be avoided. The blink Weill be incomplete, and so will be the eye closure during sleep. However, our eye is an amazing organ and it usually adapts to this new environment quite well. The severity of this problem also depends upon the severity of the ptosis.
Upto 95% patients get adapted to it within 2-3 months, and do not need any special care thereafter. 2-4 % however may have rednesss and dryness in the eye from time to time, especially in outdoor environment.
The unlucky 1% have intolerable corneal drain,g and can require reversal of surgery in order to save vision.

Sir can we blink eye properly after ptosis surgery
If your ptosis is since birth, blink as well as closure at night will be incomplete. The more severe the ptosis, the more incomplete will be the blink, and higher will be the chance of drying and redness. So after surgery, you may look better, but may not necessarily feel better.

Can ptosis in one eye put in PWD category with 40% disability cz one eye is almost 70% covered
Legally, disability is decided by permanent vision loss, and ptosis does not come under the same. My advice would be to stop using ptosis as your disability, and consult an eye plastic surgeon to explore if it can be corrected.
My new born baby eye was slightly opening it is curable or not
Most cases of ptosis are curable, or atleast can be improved. For a new born, regular assessment of vision is more important than fixing the droopy eyelid. If the ptosis is 'congenital', incomplete closure of the eye is an inevitable side-effect that has to be accepted. It is a give and take. Without this drawback, there is no surgery. However, this is only applicable to ptosis 'by birth', and the gap depends upon the severity of ptosis.
The best advice can be given by an eye plastic surgeon in actual consultation.

For any ptosis from birth, after surgery you will definitely have two new problems:
1) Incomplete blinking during the day
2) Incomplete closure during the sleep.
The degree of this new problem will depend upon the severity of the ptosis.

That depends upon the severity of the problem. Severe ptosis cannot be treated permanently, and requires multiple surgeries over lifetime.

After congenital ptosis surgery, any chance that the ptosis may reappear ?? I mean the outcome of surgery remains permanent or not ?
If the ptosis is severe, it will 100% recur.
If it is moderate, it may or may not recur
If it is mild, the results are mostly permanent.
